Objective To study the efficacy of arthroscopy in the management of patella fracture. Methods Arthroscopic techniques were employed for treating 42 patients with fresh simple patella fracture. After blood clots and fragments were cleaned up,the fracture was reduced by manipulation. Two Kirschner's pins were parallelly inserted percutaneously for internal fixation of the fracture. Then a modified tension band fixation with percutaneous wire interposition was made. Results The operation time was(1.2~3) hours(mean,2.2 hours). The time to bone union was 7~10 weeks(mean,7.5 weeks). The postoperative hospital stay was 7~14 days(mean,8.5 days).Follow-up checkups in 37 patients for 6 months ~ 4 years(mean,19.2 months) revealed bone union in all the patients and no joint instability or traumatic arthritis. The curative results were classified as excellent in 34 patients, good in 2 patients, and fair in 1,the rate of excellent or good results being 97.3%(36/37).Conclusions Arthroscopic management of patella fracture has advantages of accurate reduction and fixation, little invasion, early postoperative functional training, and quick recovery.

To explore the biological effects of light on trabecular cells, cultured bovine trabecular cells were exposed to visible light of different wavelength with different energy. Cellular morphology, structure, proliferation, and phagocytosis were observed. The cells showed no remarkable changes when the energy was low. When the exposure energy reached 1.12 mW/cm2, the cytoplasm showed a rough appearance, and cell proliferation and phagocytosis decreased. This phototoxicity was strong with white light (compound chromatic light), moderate with violet light or yellow light, and mild with red light.

Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 1986;0(05):-
Aim To study IL-8 expression of human airway epithelium-like NCI-H292 cells directly induced by Pyocyanin and its mechanism through protein kinase C(PKC) and nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-??).Methods ELISA methods were performed to test the expression of IL-8 in NCI-H292 cells infected by Pyocyanin.Western blot was employed to examine the expression of NF-?B protein. In addition,NCI-H292 cells were cultured together with PKC inhibitor, calphostin C or NF-?? inhibitor, pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate(PDTC),respectively before Pyocyanin infection, then the expression of IL-8 and NF-?? was assayed using the above methods. Results Pyocyanin was able to induce IL-8 protein secretion in NCI-H292 cells and had marked concentration-dependent relations.Pyocyanin could also significantly promote the activation of NF-?B,which peaked at 60~90 min.PDTC and calphostin C could significantly decrease the activation of NF-?? and the expression of IL-8.Conclutions Pyocyanin can induce IL-8 production. The direct induction of Pyocyanin can promote the activation of NF-?B by PKC signal pathway, then cause the expression and secretion of IL-8.

Objective To investigate effects of transcranial direct current stimulation on picture naming by those with Broca's aphasia recovering from a stroke. Methods Five patients with Broca's aphasia 6-12 months post-stroke served as their own controls. They all had lesions of the left frontal gyms or the basal ganglia. They received either anodic, cathodic or sham stimulation of the left Broca's area. They were then given a picture naming test. Results The average number of correct namings was 13.13 with anodic stimulation, 9.80 with cathodic and 10.15 with the sham stimulation.Compared with cathodic or sham stimulation, anodic stimulation of the left Broca's area can improve the picture-naming ability of aphasic stroke patients significantly more effectively. Conclusions Anodic stimulation of the left Broca's area can improve the picture-naming of cerebral apoplexy patients with Broca's aphasia.Such stimulation may increase the excitability of the left cortex, suggesting that the left Broca's area and its periphery play a very important role in language recovery after stroke.

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of pressing-kneading manipulation combined with herb-insulated moxibustion at Shuidao(ST28)for postpartum urinary retention after labor analgesia and its effect on bladder urination function. Methods:A total of 154 patients with postpartum urinary retention after labor analgesia were randomly divided into a Western medication group and a herb-insulated moxibustion group, with 77 cases in each group. In the Western medication group, neostigmine sulfate was injected into Zusanli(ST36).In the herb-insulated moxibustion group, after pressing-kneading manipulation at Shuidao(ST28),herb-insulated moxibustion was applied to Shuidao(ST28)with self-made Tong Quan San.Both groups were treated once, and the clinical efficacy was evaluated 5 h after treatment. The first urination time, first urination volume, average urinary flow rate, bladder residual urine volume, hospitalization days, and costs were recorded. Results:The total effective rate and markedly effective rate of the herb-insulated moxibustion group were higher than those of the Western medication group(P<0.05),the time to the first urination and residual urine volume in the bladder of the herb-insulated moxibustion group were shorter or smaller than those of the Western medication group(P<0.01),the first urination volume and average urine flow rate of the herb-insulated moxibustion group were larger than those of the Western medication group(P<0.01).There were no significant differences in the hospitalization days and costs between the two groups(P>0.05). Conclusion:Pressing-kneading manipulation combined with herb-insulated moxibustion at Shuidao(ST28)can effectively treat postpartum urinary retention after labor analgesia and improve bladder urination function.

The aim of this study is to prepare self-microemulsifying drug delivery system (SMEDDS) of the mixture of paeonol (Pae) and borneol (Bor). Solubility test, ternary phase diagrams and simplex lattice method were employed to screen and optimize the formulation of the mixture of Pae and Bor-loaded SMEDDS. After formed into microemulsions, the particle diameter (PD) was determined and a TEM was employed to observe the microemulsions' morphology. The contents of Pae and Bor were determined by gas chromatography. As a result, while ethyl oleate (EO) as the oil phase, cremophor EL35 (EL35) as surfactant and Transcutol HP (HP) as cosurfactant, the range of the microemulsion on the ternary phase diagram was larger than other combinations. And at a ratio of 20:45:35, the microemulsions' PD was about 34 nm and the polydispersity index (PI) was about 0.2. There were 16% of Pae, 2% of Bor, 16% of EO, 37% of EL35 and 29% of HP in the prepared SMEDDS. The preparation process of the Pae and Bor-loaded SMEDDS based on Xingbi Fang is simple and feasible. This study provides a reference for the researches on the related traditional Chinese medicine and the related components.

Objective To investigate the clinical effects of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) combined with body-weight-supported treadmill training (BWSTT) on patients with incomplete spinal cord injury (SCI).Methods Four patients with chronic incomplete SCI participated in this study. They were first treated with rTMS and then BWSTT training. They were assessed with clinical measures of function. Two of the four patients were assessed in terms of their H reflex, and using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and a balance performance monitor (BPM).Results In two of the four patients,American spinal injury association (ASIA) clinical measures of motor and sensory function improved,as did 10 m walking speed and their sense of effort. In static balance tests, the sway path and sway area of the two patients both decreased. These improvements lasted for 3 weeks after the intervention. The two patients' maximum H reflex amplitude and the H/M amplitude ratio decreased. The fMRI results showed progressive enlargement of the activation volume of the movement-related M1 region after treatment. Conclusion High-frequency rTMS combined with BWSTT may improve motor function, elevate excitability of spinal motor neurons and improve the plasticity of the cerebral cortex in chronic incomplete SCI patients.
