Objective To study extended high frequency (EHF) audiometry for early detection of hearing loss in student pilots in civil aviation. Methods A total of 175 student pilots (all male,18~25 years old, mean 20.2±0.92 years) from a university flight academy were surveyed and underwent EHFA.All subjects had hearing thresholds ≤25 dB HL at conventional frequencies (0.25~8 kHz).The results were compared with the corresponding recommended standards in other countries.According to the use of personal listening devices, all the subjects were divided into the low risk group (non-use, 121 cases) and the high risk group (using>1 year, day>1 hour, 52 cases). The differences of hearing thresholds and detection rates at EHF between the two groups were compared. Results The hearing thresholds of 173 subjects (1 case of middle ear disease and 1 case with family history of hearing loss were excluded) at 9~20 kHz were slightly higher than the reference equivalent threshold sound pressure level (RETSPL) prescribed by American National Standardization Association and the age-matched thresholds recommended by a foreign literature (P<0.05 or P<0.01).The hearing thresholds in the high risk group elevated dramatically than that in the low risk group at 9,12.5,16 and 18 kHz(P<0.05 or P<0.01).As frequencies increased, the detection rate of hearing thresholds in the high risk group decreased gradually, and at 18 and 20 kHz it was significantly lower than that in the low risk group (P<0.01).Conclusion EHF audiometry is a helpful tool for early detection of noise-induced hearing loss in student pilots.Hearing health care should be emphasized in civilian student pilots. It is recommended to avoid the use of personal listening devices or reduce the use time of them.

Objective To investigate the relationship between baseline serum uric acid and the severity of coronary artery disease ( CAD ) in the first-degree relatives or non-first-degree relatives of men with type 2 diabetes. Methods Three hundred and eighty-one men with negative coronary angiography for the first time were divided into diabetes and non-diabetes groups and followed-up for 5 years. The primary outcome was acute coronary syndrome suspected during subsequent 5 years, and the coronary angiography was conducted simultaneously. The severity of CAD was assessed by the coronary stenosis index ( CSI) and the number of coronary lesion vessels. Results In normal blood glucose group, serum uric acid was higher in the first-degree relatives of diabetics compared with non-first-degree relatives(P<0. 01), along with higher morbidity of CAD, CSI, and coronary lesion vessels (all P<0.01). Correlation analysis showed that CSI(r=0. 250, P=0. 041) and coronary lesion vessels(r=0. 252, P=0. 040) in non-diabetics group were associated with baseline levels of serum uric acid. Conclusion The elevation of serum uric acid was closely related to subsequent CAD, especially in first-degree relatives of male with type 2 diabetes, which could be used as an early indicator for CAD prediction.

BACKGROUNDSerine threonine kinase 15 (STK15) is a kind of mitotic kinase. The overexpression of STK15 is significantly associated with carcinogenesis in many tumors, however, its expression and significance in human lung cancer are still unclear. The aim of this study is to investigate the expression of STK15 in squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma of the lung and to analyze the correlation between STK15 expression and clinicopathological factors.
METHODSThe pattern of STK15 protein expression was detected in 44 squamous cell carcinomas, 36 adenocarcinomas and 20 paracancerous lung tissue samples by immunohistochemistry method using anti-STK15 antibody. The relative quantity of STK15 protein expression was detected by Western blot, and STK15 mRNA expression was detected by RT-PCR in 40 fresh lung cancer samples and corresponding paracancerous lung tissues.
RESULTSPositive expression rate of STK15 protein was 68.75% (55/80) in lung cancer tissues and 0% in paracancerous controls (P < 0.001). STK15 expression was significantly related to differentiation grade of lung cancer (P=0.011), but not to histological classification, TNM stages or lymphatic metastasis (P > 0.05). The relative expression levels of STK15 protein (P < 0.001 ) and STK15 mRNA (P < 0.001) in lung cancer tissues were both significantly higher than those of corresponding paracancerous lung tissues.
CONCLUSIONSThe expression of STK15 protein and STK15 mRNA is significantly higher in lung cancer tissues than that in paracancerous lung tissues. The expression of STK15 correlates with differentiation of lung cancer.

Objective:To investigate the value of ultrasonic measurement of the ratio of optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) to eyeball transverse diameter(ETD) in the diagnosis and prognosis of intracranial hypertension in patients with craniocerebral trauma. Methods:A total of 120 patients with craniocerebral trauma treated in the Xingtai General Hospital of North China Medical and Health Group from December 2021 to January 2023 were perspectively selected, and they were divided into normal intracranial pressure group (73 cases) and intracranial hypertension group (47 cases) according to the results of intracranial pressure measurements, and the intracranial hypertension group was divided into good prognosis group (20 cases) and poor prognosis group (27 cases) according to the follow-up prognosis. The efficacy of ONSD, ETD and ONSD/ETD in intracranial hypertension diagnosis and prognosis assessment were analyzed by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Kaplan-Meier method was used to evaluate the 6-month risk of adverse prognosis of patients, and the comparison was made by Log-rank test. Results:The levels of intracranial pressure, ONSD, ONSD/ETD in the normal intracranial pressure group were lower than those in the intracranial hypertension group: (130.73 ± 23.63) mmH 2O (1 mmH 2O = 0.009 8 kPa) vs. (270.11 ± 35.78) mmH 2O, (5.47 ± 0.29) mm vs. (5.78 ± 0.44) mm, 0.246 ± 0.018 vs. 0.263 ± 0.018, there were statistical differences ( P<0.05). The scores of Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), intracranial pressure, ONSD, ONSD/ETD in the good prognosis group were lower than those in the poor prognosis group: (5.50 ± 1.24) scores vs. (6.41 ± 1.34) scores, (256.15 ± 30.23) mmH 2O vs. (280.44 ± 36.56) mmH 2O, (5.62 ± 0.40) mm vs. (5.90 ± 0.44) mm, 0.254 ± 0.014 vs. 0.270 ± 0.017, there were statistical differences ( P<0.05). ROC curve analysis results showed that the area under the curve (AUC) of ONSD and ONSD/ETD for diagnosing intracranial hypertension in patients with craniocerebral trauma were 0.718 and 0.765, respectively, and the critical values were 5.87 mm and 0.263, respectively. The AUC of ONSD and ONSD/ETD predicting prognosis of intracranial hypertension patients was 0.677 and 0.763, respectively, and the critical values were 5.90 mm and 0.267, respectively. Grouped by the threshold of ONSD/ETD for the prognosis of intracranial hypertension (0.267), the incidence of adverse prognosis in ONSD/ETD > 0.267 group was higher than that in the ONSD/ETD≤0.267 group, there was statistical difference ( P<0.05). Conclusions:ONSD/ETD can be used as an index for diagnosis and prognosis of intracranial hypertension.
