Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a serious infectious disease caused by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Increasing cases of HIV infection have been detected in adolescents. Intravenous drug abuse and sexual behavior, which are affected by various individual and environmental factors, are the major ways of HIV infection. The current situation and influential factors of HIV infection in adolescents are introduced in this paper.

Objective:To investigate the expressions of peripheral lymph node addressin(PNAd)andGlcNAc-6-sulfotransferase(GlcNAc6ST)in endometrium and their impacts on implantation. Methods:PNAd expression in endometrium was examined by immunohistochemistry and Western Blot from 75women(12 from healthy women,in proliferative phase;63 from sterile women,of whom,27 were inearly-secretory and 36 in mid-secretory phase).GlcNAc6ST mRNA was examined by real-time PCR in41 sterile women. The 63 sterile women had underwent ⅣF-ET and were consequently divided into clini-cal pregnant(29 cases)and nonpregnant(34 cases)groups.Results:(1)PNAd localized to the mem-brane and cytoplasm of luminal and glandular epithelia.Staining was patchy and much less intense duringthe proliferative phase than during the secretory phase. In Western Blot of PNAd,four bands appeared, which were Sgp200,CD34,MAdCAM-1,GlyCAM-1 respectively, and each was positively correlatedwith the others significantly. The former three molecular levels were significantly higher during the secre-tory phase as compared with the proliferative phase.Message RNA of GlcNAe6ST was positive in all ca-ses and showed no correlation with any component of PNAd.(2)The expressions of CD34 and GlyCAM-1,but not Sgp200 and MAdCAM-1,were significantly higher in pregnant women than in nonpregnantones. However, the GlcNAc6ST mRNA level did not differ between groups.(3)No significant differ-ence was found in female age, methods of fertilization, thickness of endometrium on day hCG,cumulativeembryo score(CES)and mean score of transferred embryo(MSTE)between the groups. Conclusion:PNAd expression in the human endometrium fluctuates with the menstrual cycle.Elevated CD34 and Gly-CAM-1 during the secretory phase might be stimulative factors for embryo implantation.Defect in PNAdexpression may account for a portion of unexplained infertility.

Objective To investigate the protective effects of simvastatin on cobalt choride ( CoCl2 ) -induced hypoxia and reoxygenation injury on alveolar type Ⅱ cells and the underlying mechanisms. Methods CoCl2 was used to establish the hypoxia and reoxygenation injury model on AT Ⅱ cells.Blank, control and variant doses simvastatin-treated groups ( 5,10,20,30,50,100 μ mol/L) were designed in the present study. The proliferation of AT Ⅱ cells was evaluated by Cell Counting Kit-8 ( CCK-8 ) assay. The percentage of apoptotic cells was assessed by flow cytometry AV/PI double-staining.The protein levels of surfactant protein-C (SP-C) and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in AT Ⅱ cells was determined by Western blot. Results As compared with the control group, pretreatment with low dose (5 - 20 μmol/L),but not high dose simvastatin (50 - 100 μmol/L) markedly reduced A549 cells apoptosis, and increased their proliferation and the protein levels of SPC and PCNAin vitro. The protective effect could be reversed in vitro by L-mevalonate,a simvastatin competitive inhibitor, which indicated that the inhibition of mevalorate pathway was involved in the simvastatin induced AT Ⅱ cells function restoration.Condusion Low doses simvastatin reversed CoCl2-induced hypoxia and reoxygenation injury of AT Ⅱ cells. The inhibition of mevalonate pathway contributed to simvastatin induced AT Ⅱ cells function restoration.
7.Renal tubular acidosis as an initial manifestation in children with malignant lymphoma.
Chinese Journal of Contemporary Pediatrics 2008;10(4):500-503
Primary renal lymphoma is one of the malignant lymphomas that initially presents in the extra lymphonode, which is rarely seen in children. This study reported two cases of primary renal lymphoma in children who were definitively diagnosed by renal biopsy. Renal tubular acidosis was the initial manifestation in both cases. They were referred to the hospital with chief complaints of polydipsia, polyuria, debilitation, vomiting and anemia. Imaging and laboratory examinations showed bilateral renomegaly, hypocalcemia, hypophosphatemia, and metabolic acidosis. One of the patients discontinued therapy. The other received chemotherapy including prednisone, vincristine, cytarabine and L-asparaginase, combined with intrathecal injections of methotrexate, dexamethasone and Ara-C and supporting treatment. Twenty-three days after treatment, polydipsia and polyuria were relieved, and acidosis, kaliopenia and anemia were improved in the patient. There were no abnormal findings in the renal B-ultrasound re-examination. It was concluded that when a patient is suspected of renal lymphoma, diagnostic puncture and renal biopsy should be performed early. Early combined therapeutics including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery and supporting treatments may result in a favorable prognosis in patients with this disease.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the influence of the change of cervical curvature on the nerve root and the vertebral artery of the patients with cervical spondylosis and the curative effect of therapeutic manipulations. METHODS: Sixty cases of cervical spondylosis with the change of cervical curvature, 60 cases of cervical spondylosis without the change of cervical curvature and 60 normal people were chosen. They were clinically observed and the cervical spondylosis was treated by manipulations and the data was processed according to the principle of statistics. RESULTS: The change of cervical curvature affected the nerve root and the vertebral artery and therapeutic manipulations produced a satisfactory curative effect. CONCLUSION: Cervical spondylosis with change of cervical curvature has special characteristics in the etiology, course and state of the disease. The change of cervical curvature produces an effect on the nerve root and the vertebral artery. Selected therapeutic manipulations produce a better curative effect.

Objective To investigate the relationship between refractory hypertension and renal hemodynamics in end stage renal diseases (ESRD) patients. Methods ESRD patients were classified into:patients with refractory hypertension (group A) and patients with normal blood pressure(group B).Renal hemodynamic indices were ex- amined by duplex ultrasonography.Fasting serum lipid (TC,TG,HDL-C,LDL-C,Lp(a),ox-LDL) and serum parathyroid hormane (PTH) were determined in all patients. Results Significant differences were found in renal hemodynamic indices such as peak systolic velocity (PSV),mean flow velocity (MV),pulsatility index (PI),renal- aortic ratio (RAR) and in clinical index such as Lp(a) and ox-LDL between the two group.Refractory hyperten- sion patients had lower renal hemodynamic indices and higher Lp(a) and ox-LDL levels than in patients with con- trolled BP.Logistic regression analysis revealed that refractory hypertension was related with PSV,EDV,Pl and RAR,but not relevant with sex, age, dialysis time,hematocrit,BUN,creatinine,TC,TG,HDL-C,LDL-C, PTH,MV and RI.Conclusion Atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis and severe disorder in renal hemodynamics is likely the cause for refractory hypertention in ESRD patients. The rise of serum Lp(a) and ox-LDL might acceler- ate renal artery atherosclerosis.
