1.Effectiveness of trauscranial electrotherapy stimulation aiding venlafaxine in treatment of generalized anxiety disorder

Objective To investigate the effects of transcranial electrotherapy stimulation (TES)on patients with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). MethodsA total of 62 patients with GAD were randomly divided into two groups,the study group (treated with TES and venlafaxine) and the control group (treated with venlafaxine only).TES was administered 1 time per day for 14 days,while venlafaxine was administered with oral intake of 75-150mg/d for 4 weeks.The clinical effects were assessed by using Hamilton anxiety scale (HAMA).ResultsThere was no difference between the two groups in average HAMA total scores,psychic and somatic factor scores before the treatments (P > 0.05).The effective rate of study group was significantly higher ( P < 0.05 ) at the end of the 1 st week after treatment than,but similar at the end of the 2nd and 4th week after treatment (P > 0.05 ) to that,of control group,with regard to HAMA total score and psychic factor score.With regard to the HAMA somatic factor score,the effective rate of study group was not significantly different from that of control group at the end of the 1st,2nd and 4th week after treatment (P > 0.05).ConclusionTranscranial electric stimulation in conjunction with venlafaxine may improve the symptoms of anxiety of patients.
2.The Application of fMRI in brain surgery for the lesions in or around the Broca's area of brain

Objective To evaluate the value of fMRI guided brain surgery for the lesions in or around Broca's area.Methods Forty-three patients with lesions in or adjacent to the Broca's area were studied.fMRI imaging was obtained by BOLD technique with the tasks of reciting.Fiber tract imaging of white matter was obtained by DTI technique.All functional imaging and anatomic imaging were transferred to neuronavigation system.The technique of direct cortical stimulation was used to validate the language cortex in fMRI.The lesions were resected in microscope.Results Broca's area activation was detected in 38 cases..The distance between the fMRI peak and direct cortical stimulation was rated as overlapping (<1 cm diatance) in 25 cases and neighbouring (<2 cm diatance) in 11 cases.Total lesion resection was achieved in 17 cases, subtotal resection in 14 cases, and partial resection in 12 cases.Postoperative neurological functions were improved in 8 cases, unchanged in 31 cases, and temporary worsen in 4 cases.Conclusions The identification of the Broca's area by reciting task in fMRI is sensitive and precise.The fMRI is helpful to decrease the side effect injury in the brain surgery for the lesions in or around the Broca's area.
3.Dosimetric evaluation of three techniques in postoperative radiotherapy for rectal cancer

Objective To evaluate the dosimetric characteristics of helical tomotherapy (HT),intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT) for postoperative radiotherapy of rectal cancer.Methods Ten male patients with stage Ⅱ or Ⅲ middle or low position rectal cancer were selected retrospectively.All of the 10 patients underwent Dixon surgery and CT simulation orientation.The target volumes and normal organs were drawn in the CT images and the plans for HT,IMRT and 3D-CRT were designed.The prescribed dose was given 50 Gy in 25 fractions,covering at least 95% of the planning target volume.Results All plans met the needs of the prescribed doses.The HT and IMRT plans met the needs of dose limit to organs at risk,however,the 3D-CRT plans failed to do that.The conformity indexes of HT,IMRT and 3D-CRT plans were 0.86,0.82 and 0.62,respectively (F =206.81,P < 0.001),and the homogeneity indexes were 0.001,0.157,and 0.205,respectively (x2 =15.8,P < 0.001).The 3D-CRT plans had larger volumes than the HT plans and IMRT plans in the high-dose regions such as pelvic V50,bladder V40,bowel V50 and femoral head D5 (P < 0.05),but the differences between the HT plans and IMRT plans were not statistically significant (P >0.05).The V15 value of bowel of HT plans were higher than those of the IMRT and 3D-CRT plans (71.1% vs.63.3% and 67.7%,respectively).However,there was no significantly difference.Conclusions All of the HT,IMRT and 3D-CRT plans are able to meet the prescription dose requirement of the target regions of rectal cancer.The HT plans show the best dose homogeneity and target conformity,followed by the IMRT plans,and then the 3D-CRT plans.The HT plans meet the needs of all OARs slightly better than the IMRT plans.3D-CRT plans are simple and practical with poor protective ability toward the OARs.
4.Compound danshen injection regulated the expression of AQP3 in the human amnion epithelium cells through JNK signal pathway.

OBJECTIVETo explore the role of Compound Danshen Injection (CDI) in regulating the expression of aquaporin 3 (AQP3) in human amnion epithelium cells (hAECs), and to study the relation between c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) signal pathway and AQP3.
METHODShAECs were isolated and primarily cultured from term pregnancy with normal amniotic fluid volume and from term pregnancy with oligohydramnios, and then hAECs were further divided into four groups, i.e., the blank control group (A), the SP600125 group (B), the CDI group (C), and the SP600125 +CDI group (D). The cell viability was measured by cell counting kit-8 assay (CCK-8). The expression of total JNK, phosphorylated JNK, and AQP3 were determined by Western blot.
RESULTS(1) In hAECs with normal AFV or with oligohydramnios: There was no statistical difference in the cell viability or the expression of total JNK among the 4 groups (P > 0.05). But there was statistical difference in the expression of p-JNK (P < 0.05). Compared with A group, the expression of p-JNK was obviously down-regulated in B group, but obviously up-regulated in C group (P < 0.05). The expression of p-JNK was significantly lower in D group than in C group, but higher than that in A group or B group (P < 0.05).The AQP3 expression in the hAECs with normal amniotic fluid volume of C group and D group were higher than that in the A group (P < 0.05). However, there was no statistical difference in the AQP3 expression between C group and D group (P > 0.05). In hAECs with oligohydramnios, the expression of AQP3 obviously decreased in B group, but up-regulated in C group (both P < 0.05). The expression of AQP3 was lower in D group than in C group, but higher than in B group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONCDI could regulate the AQP3 expression in hAECs with oligohydramnios via activating the JNK signal pathway.

5.Quality standard study on Mori Cortex liquid extract.

A reasonable and practicable quality standard was developed for mori liquid extract from different sources by TLC, HPLC and fingerprint technology. In TLC method, the compounds were separated on polyamide film using glacial acetic acid-water (1: 3) as mobile phase at a UV wavelength of 365 nm. All qualified samples had the spots of the same color as the control herb and substance. The RP-HPLC method was used to determine the content of mulberroside A with mobile phase of methanol-water (25: 75) at a wave-length of 326 nm. The mulberroside A was in good linear with a regression equation of Y = 46.965X (r = 0.999 6) in the range of 4.6 - 228 mg x L(-1). In 14 batches of samples, the mulberroside A in 4 batches of them was less than 0.5 g x L(-1), and was more than 2.0 g x L(-1) in the other batches. It was suggested that the content limit of mulberroside A should be no less than 1.5 g x L(-1). The HPLC fingerprints were evaluated by the similarities. It has found that the similarities of different mori liquid extracts were very low and the chemical diversity of mori cortex was the major factor of similarity. Moreover, the process impact was minimal. Thus the fingerprint was not included in this quality standard.

6.Synthesis and biological evaluation of diarylamines with antitumor activity.

By structural modifications of our previous leads 1-3, 18 diarylamines were designed, synthesized and evaluated with a human tumor cell line panel, including A549, DU145, KB, and KB-vin cell lines, resulting in the discovery of new antitumor agents A6 and B2 with low micromolar G50 values ranging from 1.55-2.10 micromol x L(-1) for above cell lines, and A9 with GI50 values ranging from 1.55-2.10 micromol x L(-1) specially for DU145, KB, and KB-vin cells. Current structure-activity relationships are helpful for further lead optimization.

7.Influence of fiber framework design on stress distribution in posterior glass fiber reinforced composite resin-bonded fixed partial dentures.

OBJECTIVETo compare the difference of stress distribution among models with different fiber frameworks.
METHODSFour models were generated in Marc 2003 software. Four types of loads simulating normal mastication were selected. The stress within models was calculated, and output by means of graph and data.
RESULTSThere was stress concentration around connectors and retainers near connectors under cusp -fossa load, occlusal even load, and lateral load. When dentures were reinforced with fiber framework, area of stress concentration and principal stress max could decrease in comparison with pure composite resin bonded fixed partial denture. Under buccal-lingual load, there was another stress concentration around central fossa beside above two stress concentration areas. Only modified fiber framework constructed with both mesial-distal and lingual-buccal directional glass fiber could markedly reduce principal stress under buccal-lingual cusp loads.
CONCLUSIONUnder 4 types of loads simulating normal mastication, three critical regions were disclosed at the area of retainers adjacent connectors, connectors and occlusal central fossa and fissures. Only modified fiber framework constructed with both mesial-distal and lingual-buccal directional glass fiber could markedly reduce stress concentration under buccal-lingual cusp loads.

8.Influence of fiber framework design on fracture strength of posterior glass fiber-reinforced-composite resin-bonded fixed partial dentures.

OBJECTIVETo analyze influence of fiber framework design on fracture strength of posterior glass fiber-reinforced-composite resin-bonded fixed partial dentures (GFRC-RBFPD).
METHODSBased on established three-dimensional finite element models of GFRC-RBFPD for restoring the second mandibular premolar or the first mandibular molar, traditional fiber framework design and modified fiber framework design were analyzed. Two types of load, including cusp-fossa load and buccal-lingual cusp load, were selected. Load values were 400 N on premolar and 600 N on molar respectively. The fracture strength of GFRC-RBFPD was calculated.
RESULTSUnder cusp-fossa load, the fracture strength was 1340 N for both types of fiber frameworks of premolar GFRC-RBFPD, and 864 N for traditional framework and 875 N for modified framework of molar GFRC-RBFPD. Under buccal-lingual load, the fracture strength of premolar GFRC-RBFPD was 792 N for traditional framework and 1019 N for modified framework; that of molar GFRC-RBFPD was 645 N for traditional framework and 652 N for modified framework.
CONCLUSIONSThe modified fiber framework obviously improved the strength of premolar GFRC-RBFPD and only slightly improved that of molar GFRC-RBFPD.

9.The study of natural head posture in edentulous patients before and after oral rehabilitation.

OBJECTIVETo study the natural head posture (NHP) of edentulous patients compared with dentate people and to understand NHP shift immediately inserting complete dentures and three months after denture wearing.
METHODSThe NHPs of twenty edentulous patients and twenty-two dentate subjects were recorded with cephalometric technique. The NTPs of edentulous patients were exposed three times, before inserting, right after inserting and three months after inserting dentures. The NHPs of dentate subjects were recorded once as a controlled group. Six angles measured from the radiographs were evaluated for the NHP and three angles and two linear measures for the mandibular position.
RESULTSCompared with dentate subjects, the craniomandibular angles of the edentulous patients increased and the camber of the cervical columns decreased, but changes of the NHP were not significant. The mandible showed a significant upward moving (P < 0.05) and an insignificant forward moving. At the time of denture insertion, the camber of the cervical columns significantly increased (P < 0.05). Three months after using the dentures, the craniomandibular angles of the patients obviously decreased. (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe shift of NHP after denture inserting does exist. The shifted NHP of the patients with dentures is a new balanced posture and closer to the normal position than the NHP of them without dentures.

10.The clinical significance of serum level of soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 detected before and after lung transplantation

Objective To evaluate serum soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1) before and after lung transplantation for diagnosing acute rejection. Methods Biotin-streptavidin time resolved fluoroimmunoassay (BSA-TRFIA) was used to detect the concentration of serum sICAM-1 before and after lung transplantation in 26 patients. All patients were divided into stable lung transplantation group (n =16), acute rejection group (n =4) and infected group (n =6). The serum level of sICAM-1 in those groups was compared with that of the control group ( n = 30 ) by the non-parametric rank sum test ( KruskalWallis H test). Results No significant difference was found for serum sICAM-1 among the three groups and the control group before operation: (357.07 ± 220.01 ), ( 396. 18 ± 136.25 ), (468.95 ± 85.48 ) μg/L vs(348.63 ±69. 12) μg/L, H=6. 0436, P >0.05. However, when rejection and infection happened after operation, the serum sICAM-1 increased in the acute rejection group (455.53 ± 126.51 μg/L) and decreased in the infection group (146.43 ± 327.11 μg/L), and the level in the stable transplantation group was (274.23 ± 157.53 ) μg/L (H = 21. 8994, P < 0.01 ). Conclusion Serum sICAM-1 level might be a potential marker to differentiate acute rejection from infection after lung transplantation.
