Mean platelet volume (MPV) is an early marker of platelet activation.Larger platelets, compared to small ones, increase platelet adhesion and aggregation, and present a higher thrombotic activity. Some studies have explored the association between MPV and the morbidity of portal vein thrombosis (PVT).The aim of this study was to evaluate the predictive effect of MPV in patients with PVT by a meta-analysis.We searched Pubmed,Web of Science,SCOPUS,OVID,CNKI and CBMD from database inception to September 13,2017.Seven studies in accordance with selection criteria were included. The extraction of basic data was independently conducted by two reviewers. The mean difference in MPV between PVT patients and controls were pooled with weighted mean difference (WMD)and 95% confidence interval of 0.88 fl (95% CI:0.61-1.15).A random-effect model was chosen for an obvious heterogeneity in the pooling (Chi-square=27.12,df=6,P<0.0001,I2=77.9%).The sources of heterogeneity were from the difference of primary disease of participants and portal vein diameter.Taken together, our results reveal that MPV is a predictive indicator in patients with PVT.

OBJECTIVETo improve the treatment of drug related childhood hepatic veno-occlusive disease (HVOD), clinical characteristics of 6 children with hematologic neoplasm from 2 hospitals of China Children's Leukemia Group (CCLG) treated with 6-thioguanine (6-TG) complicated with HVOD were analyzed.
METHODAll the drug related HVOD patients were treated with CCLG acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL)-2008 protocol. They were from Children's Hospital of Fudan University and Institute of Hematology & Blood Diseases Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College from April 2008 to April 2009. The diagnosis was made according to the modified Seattle criteria and Baltimore criteria, including 2 or 3 of the following clinical features: hepatomegaly and upper right abdominal pain, jaundice (bilirubin ≥ 35 µmol/L), ascites or confirmed by pathology. The 6 HVOD patients' clinical manifestations, laboratory finding, imageologic and pathologic data were collected and analyzed.
RESULTOf the 6 patients, 2 were males and 4 females. Mean age of the 6 patients was 3.89 years (range from 3 years 1 month to 4 years 11 months). The original disease was acute lymphoblastic leukemia. HVOD occurred during chemotherapy protocols of CAM (CTX + Ara-C + 6-TG) or maintenance period (MTX + 6-TG). Most of 6 HVOD patients presented with pain in liver area, hepatomegaly on imaging, elevated aminotransferase and bilirubin (often ≥ 35 µmol/L), hydroperitonia was common, one with pleural fluid, illegible hepatic veins. All the patients recovered after being treated with hepatoprotective, jaundice-relieving and supportive therapeutics, some patients were treated with low molecular weight heparin. The prognoses were good.
CONCLUSIONHVOD was a serious complication of chemotherapy with 6-TG. Hepatoprotective and jaundice-relieving and low molecular weight heparin could improve the prognosis.

OBJECTIVETo observe the proliferation state of transplanted cells in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) rats, and the endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) preconditioned by salvianolic acid B in different ratios with the bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs).
METHODSThe cultivation and purification of EPCs were performed by density-gradient centrifugation and plastic adherence method. Two types of cells were identified by immunocytochemical method (CD34, CD133, and CD44). The rat model of AMI was prepared by ligation of left anterior descending artery. The EPCs were pre-treated with the optimal concentration of salvianolic acid B (8 microg/ mL). They were mixed with BMSCs in different proportions (EPCs/BMSCs in the ratio of 1:1, 2:1, 4:1, and 8:1, respectively). BMSCs and EPCs were injected into the myocardial infarction area. The infarcted area was determined by the N-BT staining and hematoxylin-eosin staining. The expression of Ki-67 was detected by immunohistochemical assay.
RESULTSCompared with the model group (19.60% +/- 3.23%), the myocardial infarction area of each implanted group obviously decreased (P < 0.05). Of them, the decrease was most obvious in the 4:1 group (11.37% +/- 2.18%) and the 8:1 group (9.23% +/- 2.35%, P < 0.05). Compared with the model group (cell/high magnification, 5.17 +/- 2.31), the Ki-67 positive cell number of each implanted groups significantly increased (P < 0.05). Of them, the Ki-67 positive cell number was obviously higher in the 8:1 group (15.00 +/- 3.16, P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSEPCs pretreated by salvianolic acid B combined with BMSCs could reduce the myocardial infarcted area, improve the proliferation of BMSCs in the peripheral infarction and local ischemia. Besides, along with the increase of the implant proportion of EPCs, the infarct area was gradually reduced, and the proliferative expression was gradually enhanced.
