Objective To investigate the influence of thrombospondin 1 (TSP-1) on the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in human renal tubular epithelial cells. Methods Human renal tubular epithelial cell (HKCs) line was cultured in vitro with DMEM/F12 1∶1 medium. HKCs were divided into four groups as follows: normal control group [HKCs were cultured with serum free medium (FSM), C group], TGF-? 1 group (HKCs were treated with FSM containing TGF-? 1, T group), antisense oligonucleotide group [HKCs were treated with FSM contained TGF-? 1 and TSP-1 antisense oligonucleotide (AS), TA group], missense oligonucleotide groups [HKCs were treated with FSM contained TGF-? 1 and TSP-1 missense oligonucleotide (SC), TS group]. Cells were cultured 72 hours in the conditioned media. The expressions of TSP-1 and VEGF were detected with immunohistochemistry. The expressions of TSP-1 mRNA and VEGF mRNA were assayed by RT-PCR. The correlation between the relative expressions of VEGF mRNA and TSP-1 mRNA was analyzed. Results There were significantly increased expressions of VEGF and VEGF mRNA in TA groups (P0.05) compared with T groups. The expressions of VEGF and VEGF mRNA were decreased significantly in T groups and TS groups (P0.05) compared with T groups. The expressions of TSP-1 and TSP-1 mRNA were increased significantly in T groups and TS groups (P

Objective To evaluate the method of measurement of total scatter calibrate factor (Sc,p). Methods To measure the Sc,p at different depths on central axis of 6?MV, 15?MV photon beams through different ways. Results It was found that the measured data of Sc,p changed with the different depths to a range of 1%~7%. Using the direct method, the Sc,p measured depth should be the same as the depth in dose normalization point of the prescription dose. If the Sc,p ( fsz, d) was measured at the other depths, it could be obtained indirectly by the calculation formula. Conclusions The Sc,p in the prescription dose can be obtained either by the direct measure method or the indirect calculation formula. But emphasis should be laid on the proper measure depth.

Objective To explore the potential connection between sympathetic response, heart rate and blood pressure modulation after caloric irrigation in order to study the role of vestibular stimuli in cardiovascular control. Method Efferent splanchnic nerve firing rates, ECG and blood pressure were recorded simultaneously during caloric stimuli on intact anesthetized(CON) rats(n=5), sinoaortic denervated (SAD)rats(n=5) and bilateral vestibular destroyed (VD) rats(n=5). Result It was found that after caloric stimulation with ice water mean blood pressure CON rats with intact reflex became lower and the mean heart rates became slower, splanchnic sympathetic nerve activities increased for a moment and then dropped significantly. SAD rats had significant stronger splanchnic sympathetic nerve activities VD rats after caloric stimulation, and their blood pressures changed to apposite directions. The coupled respiratory component on splanhnic sympathetic nerve activities were strongly affected by the caloric stimulation. Conclusion It is suggested that semicircular canal stimulation participate at least in the short-term blood pressure control mechanism and the role of central nervous system on respiratory drive may also be involved. Baro-reflex and vestibular afferent may play different role in the control of blood pressure they may work synergically in some physiological control processed.

Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 2015;57(6):478-483
We report two rare cases of spinal intraosseous schwannoma (SIS) with sustained myelopathy symptoms and provide an updated review regarding SIS in the literature. A 71-year-old man experienced right lumbocrural pain and gait disturbance accompanied with paresthesia and right leg weakness. Imaging examinations revealed a mass with lesions in L4 vertebral body causing bone destruction and spinal cord compression. Complete resection of the well-demarcated tumor and posterior fusion were performed. A 54-year-old female reported bilateral gait disturbance, paresthesia, and numbness without weakness, and imaging revealed a posterior mass from T9 causing spinal cord compression and bone erosion. The tumor was completely separated from the spinal nerve root. The tumors from both patients were confirmed as schwannomas. Tumor recurrence was not observed at the 2-4 year follow-up. Although rare, SIS should be considered during differential diagnosis and can affect treatment planning. SIS symptoms vary depending on tumor location, and fusion is frequently necessary for spinal reconstruction after complete tumor resection.
