1.Patellofemoral Joint Arthroplasty: Early Results and Functional Outcome of the Zimmer Gender Solutions Patello-Femoral Joint System.

BACKGROUND: Improved knee prosthesis designs have led to an increase in the use of patellofemoral arthroplasty as a primary treatment option in recent times. We report the early results and outcomes of the Zimmer Gender Solutions Patello-Femoral Joint (PFJ) system used to treat isolated patellofemoral osteoarthritis (PFA). METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed and analysed data of patients who underwent PFJ replacement (PFJR) at our institution with a minimum follow-up of 2 years. RESULTS: Median Oxford Knee score (OKS) was 38 (interquartile range, 28 to 42) at the latest follow-up with a significant improvement from preoperative scores (p < 0.0005). Median OKS was 40 for unilateral PFJRs and 39 for nonobese patients (body mass index [BMI] < 30 kg/m²). There was no significant difference in OKS between unilateral and bilateral procedures (p = 0.462). Likewise, there was no significant difference in OKS between obese and nonobese patients (p = 0.272). Two knees (4%) were revised for progression of osteoarthritis. No complications were reported related to infectious or thromboembolic causes. CONCLUSIONS: Our study showed good early results of the PFJ system, at least equal to those of other leading brands in the National Joint Registry for England, Wales and Northern Ireland (NJR). There have been no complications related to either the implantation technique or prosthetic design for this new implant. Progression of tibiofemoral arthritis remains a major concern. Our study also suggests that PFJR in obese patients and bilateral procedures can have good results.

4.Models and theories to support health promotion programmes for overweight and obese adults: A scoping review

Introduction: The increasing prevalence of overweight and obesity has been alarming.
One approach to address this issue is to implement health promotion programmes.
Despite the many health promotion and health intervention programmes held, there
is a lack of evidence showing the application of theories and models. This scoping
review aimed to explore existing literature and synthesise findings based on models
and theories used to support health promotion programmes for overweight and obese
adults. Methods: This review was guided by the Arksey and O’Malley framework.
Online databases, such as Ovid, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, were used
to search for relevant articles using suitable keywords, from January 2015 until
December 2021. Articles were written in English and Malay, and the study subjects
were adults aged 18-59 years old. Two reviewers independently screened the articles,
and the extracted information were tabulated after analysis. Results: A total of 13
different theories and models were found in the 27 articles selected. Many studies
reported using the Transtheoretical Model, Social Cognitive Theory, and Health
Belief Model in health promotion programmes for overweight and obese adults.
Most constructs and components focused on changing health-related behaviours
starting with the individual, such as self-efficacy and readiness to change. Majority
of the articles showed an improvement in health-related behaviours and had great
potential for future studies. Conclusion: When conducting health promotion
programmes for overweight and obese adults, researchers should consider models
and theories with constructs and components to ensure consistent improvement
and potentially significant impacts on health-related outcomes.

DNA barcoding without assessing reliability and validity causes taxonomic errors of species identification, which is responsible for disruptions of their conservation and aquaculture industry. Although DNA barcoding facilitates molecular identification and phylogenetic analysis of species, its availability in clariid catfish lineage remains uncertain. In this study, DNA barcoding was developed and validated for clariid catfish. 2,970 barcode sequences from mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) and cytochrome b (Cytb) genes and D-loop sequences were analyzed for 37 clariid catfish species. The highest intraspecific nearest neighbor distances were 85.47%, 98.03%, and 89.10% for COI, Cytb, and D-loop sequences, respectively. This suggests that the Cytb gene is the most appropriate for identifying clariid catfish and can serve as a standard region for DNA barcoding. A positive barcoding gap between interspecific and intraspecific sequence divergence was observed in the Cytb dataset but not in the COI and D-loop datasets. Intraspecific variation was typically less than 4.4%, whereas interspecific variation was generally more than 66.9%. However, a species complex was detected in walking catfish and significant intraspecific sequence divergence was observed in North African catfish. These findings suggest the need to focus on developing a DNA barcoding system for classifying clariid catfish properly and to validate its efficacy for a wider range of clariid catfish. With an enriched database of multiple sequences from a target species and its genus, species identification can be more accurate and biodiversity assessment of the species can be facilitated.
6.Bioassay-guided isolation of novel and selective urease inhibitors from Diospyros lotus.

Two new dimeric naphthoquinones, 5',8'-dihydroxy-6,6'-dimethyl-7,3'-binaphthyl-1,4,1',4'-tetraone (1; Di-naphthodiospyrol D) and 5',8'-dihydroxy-5,8-dimethoxy-6,6'-dimethyl-7,3'-binaphthyl-1,4,1',4'-tetraone (2; Di-naphthodiospyrol E), along with known naphthoquinones diospyrin (3) and 8-hydroxy diospyrin (4) were isolated from the chloroform fraction of extract of Diospyros lotus roots. Their structures were elucidated by advanced spectroscopic analyses, including HSQC, HMBC, NOESY, and J-resolved NMR experiments. The fractions and compounds 1-4 were evaluated for urease activity and phosphodiesterase-I, carbonic anhydrase-II and α-chymotrypsin enzyme inhibitory activities. Compounds 1 and 2 and their corresponding fractions showed significant and selective inhibitory effects on urease activities. The IC values of 1 and 2 were 260.4 ± 6.37 and 381.4 ± 4.80 µmol·L, respectively, using thiourea (IC = 21 ± 0.11 µmol·L) as the standard inhibitor. This was the first report demonstrating that the naphthoquinones class showed urease inhibition.
