1.Research progress on tumor suppressor gene PTEN in gastric carcinoma
Cancer Research and Clinic 2012;24(7):495-497
PTEN is a tumor suppressor with double specific phosphatase activity, and PTEN brings into its lipid and protein phosphatase activity through PIP3, FAK, MAPK pathway. PTEN also induces apoptosis, inhibits cell growth, and regulates cell migration and adhesiveness. PTEN expression is lower in gastric carcinoma. It may be valuable to evaluate that the abnormal expression of suppressor gene PTEN participates in the malignant conversion process of the gastric mucosa cell, and the expression levels of the PTEN protein can be used to evaluate the pathologic biology behavior of gastric carcinoma.

ObjectiveTo detect methylation status of the 5'CpG island locating in the promoter region of p27 gene in gastric carcinoma and to analyze the relationship between the aberrant methylaion of p27 gene and the bionomics of gastric carcinoma.MethodsMethylation-specific PCR were used to detect the methylation status of p27 in gastric carcinoma( n =49), adjacent tissue of carcinoma ( n =20) and normal tissue(n =10), respectively.ResultsThe mathylation rate is 49% (24/49) for gastria cancer, 25%(5/20) for tumor-sideward mucosa and 0 (0/10)for normal mucosa. There was a significant positive correlation between gastric carcinoma specimens and normal mucosa specimens ( P < 0. 05 ). There was no significant diference between normal gastric group and tumor-sideward mucosa group ( P > 0. 05 ) and no significant diference between tumor-sideward mucosa group and tumor group ( P > 0. 05 ). The mathylation rate of p27 gene with lymph node metastases (61%) are higher than those without metastasis (28%) (P < 0. 05). And there is no relation on patients' age, sex, tumor size and location.Conclusionp27 gene methylation of the p27 gene is correlated to oncogenesis and metastasis of gastric carcinoma and could lead to the loss of p27mRNA transcription.

Objective: To evaluate the intestinal trophic effects and adverse reactions of nasojejunal and jejunostomy tube im-plants on patients with total gastrectomy. Methods:A total of 86 patients with advanced gastric cancer were randomly and equally di-vided into two groups. Groups A and B received enteral nutrition therapies through nasojejunal and jejunostomy feeding tube implants, respectively. The therapeutic efficacy of the two methods of enteral nutrition therapy and the corresponding adverse reactions observed in the two groups were compared. Results:Group B patients demonstrated shorter anal evacuation and defecation times than group A patients, the difference is statistically significant (P<0.05). Moreover, the bodyweight, total protein, and albumin levels of the patients significantly decreased in both groups after enteral nutrition therapy was administered (P<0.05). Postoperative nutritive indexes were higher in group B than in group A;however, no significant difference was obtained between the two groups (P>0.05). Nonetheless, the patients in group B tolerated the treatment well compared with those in group A (P<0.05). The complication rates of groups A and B were 18.6%and 23.3%, respectively, but this difference was not significant (P>0.05). Conclusion:Patients subjected to total gastrecto-my showed higher tolerance to jejunal tube implants for enteral nutrition than to nasojejunal tube implants, indicating that jejunal tube implants can be used to improve the nutritional status of patients.
