Objective To investigate the protective effect of N-acetylcysteine(NAC) on the development of myocardial hypertrophy in diabetic rats induced by streptozotocin. Methods Male SD rats were randomly divided into normal control (NC), control treatment (NCT), diabetic (DM) and diabetes treatment (DMT) groups. NAC was administered at dose of 1.4~1.5g·kg~(-1)·d~(-1) to NCT and DMT groups in the drinking water for 8 weeks. At termination the rats were surgically prepared for hemodynamic measurement, such as systolic blood pressure, heart rate, the rate of left ventricle relaxation (-dp/dt) and the time to maximum relaxation (T). Subsequently, the hearts were removed to assay relative ratio of left ventricle weight versus body weight (LVW/BW) and cardiomyocyte cross sectional areas.Plasma glucose, insulin, 15-F_(2t)-isoprostane(15-F_(2t)-Isop) concentration and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity were analyzed. Results The LVW/BW ratio and cardiomyocyte areas were significantly attenuated by NAC treatment as compared to DM group (P< 0.05). Increases in -dp/dt and SOD activity and the decreases in glucose, 15-F_(2t)-Isop T (P< 0.05) were found at the same time. Conclusions NAC can effectively prevent the development of myocardial hypertrophy and improve diastolic function in diabetic rats, which may be related to its antioxidant capacity.

Objective To investigate the effect of propofol and fentanyl on inflammatory response to tissue injury in children undergoing open heart surgery with CPB and the possible mechanism. Methods Twenty HYHA class Ⅱ - Ⅲ children with congenital heart disease, aged 10 month-12yr, undergoing elective open heart surgery were randomly divided into two groups: group F in which anesthesia was maintained with high dose fentanyl (50-80?g? kg-1 ) and group FP in which anesthesia was maintained with propofol infusion (20mg?kg-1?h-1 ) and intermittent iv boluses of fentanyl (
6.Recombinant Lactobacilli for Ethanol Production
Zi-Fang XIA ; Zheng-Xiang WANG ;
Microbiology 1992;0(05):-
Recombinant plasmids pHY-PA, pBBR-PA were constructed in which genes pdc and adhB were placed under the control of tac promoter, respectively, and had successfully expressed in Escherichia coli. Then these recombinant plasmids were electroporated into Lactobacillus strains for ethanol production. Preliminary ethanol fermentation using these Lactobacillus strains and their recombinants was carried out using 42℃ as fermentation temperature. The results indicated that introducing pdc and adhB, ethanologenic pathway was successfully constructed in L.plantanum CICIM B0080. 0.4% (V/V) ethanol was detected at the end of fermentation with 6.7% glucose, and that is 67-fold as the wild-type B0080. Two-fold of ethanol production was detected in L.amylovorus B0112 (pHY-PA) and L.acidophilus B0068 (pBBR-PA). Introducing both pdc and adhB, and meanwhile knock-outing the lactate dehydrogrnase gene may better convert carbon flux to ethanologenic direction.
