The change of kirenol, darutigenol and darutoside in Siegesbeckia and its first to ninth processed products were studied, and the ten fingerprints were compared, which provided the experimental basis for the study of Siegesbeckia processing tech- nology. The samples were analysed by HPLC on a SunFire-C18 column (4.6 mm x 150 mm, 5 μm) with gradient elution of acetonitrile (0.1% formic acid)-water (0.1% formic acid) at a flow rate of 1.0 mL x min(-1). Column temperaturewas 30 °C and the detected wavelength was 215, 320 nm. The calibration curves of kirenol, darutigenol and darutoside were linear in the range of 2.180-26.16, 2.900-34.80, and 1.012-6.072 mg x L(-1), respectively, and the average recoveries were 96.4%, 97.2% and 96.3% wit RSD 2.2%, 1.7% and 2.4%. This method was simple, the result was stable and had good repeatability, recovery and precision. The re- sult was the basis of the chemical contents variation in the processing of Siegesbeckia Herbs and further clarifying the effect of the changing.

BACKGROUNDPrimary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) is characterized by optic nerve damage and consists of a group of genetically heterogeneous disorders. This study was to investigate the associations of genetic and environmental factors with POAG in a hospital-based Chinese population.
METHODSThirty-two adult onset POAG patients and 96 age-sex matched control subjects were studied by multivariable logistic regression analysis for the relationships between POAG and its risk factors including family history, diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption and polymorphisms of the myocilin and the optineurin genes.
RESULTSUnivariate analysis showed that POAG was related to family history, cardiovascular disease, alcohol consumption and a myocilin sequence alteration (T353I) (P < 0.04). Multivariable logistic regression analysis confirmed that POAG was significantly associated with family history (OR = 20.2), hypertension (OR = 3.58), cigarette smoking (OR = 10.8), alcohol consumption (OR = 0.028) and T353I (OR = 6.03, all P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSFamily history, hypertension, cigarette smoking and T353I in the myocilin gene are risk factors for POAG. Alcohol consumption, however, has a protective effect.

OBJECTIVETo discuss the diagnosis and treatment of non-specific granulomatous prostatitis (NSGP).
METHODSThirty-two cases of NSGP were diagnosed by puncture biopsy under transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) and treated with antibiotics and other medicines from September, 2000 to May, 2006.
RESULTSPathomorphologically, NSGP was basically characterized by granuloma with vessels or grand alveoli in the center. The mean follow-up was 24 months. Urination irritation and obstruction were improved. Q(max) was increased to 15.0-24.0 ml/s, and in 3 cases of urinary retention, to 12.0, 14.5 and 16.5 ml/s, respectively. Digital rectal examination (DRE) indicated a reduced size and softened texture of the prostate induration. PSA was decreased to 1.3-11.5 microg/L. Four cases experienced relapse but were cured after retreated. No prostate cancer was observed.
CONCLUSIONNSGP can be definitely diagnosed by puncture biopsy under TRUS and effectively relieved by antibiotics with the alpha-receptor blocker. In case of serious obstruction complicated by urinary retention, transurethral electrotomy can be considered.

OBJECTIVETo study the expression of tenascin in normal and fibrotic rat liver.
METHODSLiver fibrosis induced in rat with CCl(4) were divided into three stages: the stage of hepatic injury (4 weeks), early stage of hepatic fibrosis (8 weeks) and later stage of hepatic fibrosis (12 weeks). Tenascin expression in liver tissue was observed by immunohistochemical method and in situ hybridization using digoxigenin-labelled DNA probe.
RESULTSIn normal rat liver there was a weak staining for tenascin. In both liver injury stage and early stage of hepatic fibrosis, both mRNA signal and immunostaining for tenascin were significantly increased as compared to that in normal liver. In later stage of hepatic fibrosis, mRNA signal and immunostaining for tenascin were decreased compared with that in early stage of hepatic fibrosis. The cellular source of tenascin in liver mainly restricted in mesenchymal cells.
CONCLUSIONSTenascin is a component of the extracellular matrix of liver tissue. Plays a role in early matrix organization during liver fibrogenesis.

National Journal of Andrology 2007;13(8):693-695
OBJECTIVETo assess the application value of transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) in the diagnosis of chronic prostatitis.
METHODSTRUS and examination of prostatic secretion (EPS) were used in the diagnosis of 3 500 cases of chronic prostatitis from September, 2000 to May, 2006.
RESULTSLower resonance of the inner gland, low-level echo, uneven echo light spots, incomplete outlines and unsmooth borderlines were found in 2279 cases (65.1%), and the enlarged prostate in 1 084 cases (31.0%), with clear integrated amicula and enhanced echogenic spots at the juncture of the external and inner gland. No obvious changes were noted in 137 cases (4.0%), and in another 391 cases (11.2%) were detected alteration of the acoustic image of cystospermitis and blurred margins and uneven echoes of the seminal vesicle. The WBC count in EPS was < 10/HP in 132 cases (3.8%), 10-19/HP in 2 156 cases (61.6%) and > or =20/HP in 1212 cases (34.6%).
CONCLUSIONTRUS, as a diagnostic means for chronic prostatitis, can be easily performed and causes little pain and therefore is readily accepted by patients. Combined with EPS, TRUS can provide more definite diagnostic evidence, and for those who are afraid of pain and reject EPS, it is a desirable alternative in the diagnosis of chronic prostatitis.

A switch thrombin aptamer sensor was constructed based on the host-guest competition mode ofβ-cyclodextrin (β-CD ) . The aptamer that modified with ferrocene ( Fc ) at its terminal was fixed on the surface of the gold electrode via the host-guest recognization with β-CD. When thrombin was present, the configuration of aptamer transformed from vertical linear to "G-quadruplex" and far away from the electrode surface, which resulted in a decrease in the redox current of the aptamer probe and produce "Signal-off"effect. On the basis of this, a high sensitive detection of thrombin was made. The detection result indicated that the thrombin concentration had a consideration linear response to the signal of aptasensor between 5 . 0 × 10-13-5. 0 × 10-9 mol/L, and as low as 2. 0 × 10-13 mol/L thrombin had been detected. This method for thrombin detection showed a higher specificity compared to other protein molecules. Besides, the sensor was constructed easily and possessed excellent regeneration, which provided a significant platform for highly efficient real-time detection of thrombin in biological serum samples.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the electrical signals propagated along Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian (BL) in a rat model.
METHODSThe experiments were performed on Dark-Agouti (DA), DA.1U and Sprague Dawley (SD) rats. The antidromic electrical stimulation was applied on the nerve innervating "Pishu" (BL 20) to mimic the acupoint electro-acupuncture (EA). The activities recording from adjacent nerve innervating acupoint "Danshu" (BL 19) or "Weishu" (BL 21) were recorded as indics for acupoint, including the mechanical threshold and discharge rate.
RESULTSAfter mimic EA on BL 20, C and Aδ units from adjacent BL 19 or BL 21 were sensitized including the decrease in mechanical threshold and increase in discharge rates in DA, DA.1U and SD rats, especially in DA rats. The average discharge rate increased from 2.40±0.26 to 6.06±0.55 and from 1.92±0.42 to 6.17±1.10 impulse/min (P<0.01), and the mechanical threshold decreased from 0.52±0.12 to 0.24±0.05 and from 0.27±0.02 to 0.16±0.01 mmol/L (P<0.01) in C (n=15) and Aδ (n=18) units in DA rats. The net change in discharge rates from C units were 152.5%, 144.7% and 42.4% in DA, DA.1U and SD rats, respectively, among which DA rat's was the highest (P<0.05). In Aδ units, the net change in DA rats were also the highest (221.5%, 139.2% and 49.2% in DA, DA.1U and SD rats).
CONCLUSIONSThese results showed that mimic acupoint EA activated adjacent acupoints along BL in three rat strains, which might be related to propagated sensation along meridians (PSM). In addition, DA rats were more sensitive and might be a good model animal for PSM research.
