Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2013;30(6):1272-1275
The aim of this study was to obtain the alginate gels which could have proper compressive strength and excellent permeability for cell proliferation and could have more promising potentials in the application of tissue engineering. Through the reaction of the carboxyl of the alginate and the amino of methacrylic acid, methylacrylic was generated into alginate long chain which could be enhanced by the polymerization of double bond under thermal reaction condition. And then alginate gel beads were prepared using the mixture of calcium chloride and barium chloride solution as cationic crosslinker, and the compressive modulus and permeability of the prepared alginate gel beads were investigated. When the ratio of barium ions to calcium ions was 5:5, the compression modulus was 189.7 kPa, and it showed the best permeability for trypsin with molecular weight of 24 kDa and entrapment effect for bovine serum albumin with molecular weight of 67 kDa. Compared to compositions of other ratios, the alginate gel beads made in 5:5 mixture indicated excellent compressive modulus and permeability. These results indicated that the alginate hydrogel beads with the ratio of barium ions to calcium ions being 5:5 have a potential application in tissue engineering as a support material and encapsulating materials in cell culture.

Objective To analyze the ultra microstructure and histological properties of implanted composites of decalcified bone matrix (DBM) impregnated calcium phosphate cement (CPC) with recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) in bone defect, and evaluate the osteoplastic efficiency of this composites. Methods The rabbit DBM was prepared beforehand. The composites of DBM impregnated CPC with rhBMP-2 was made at 0.2 proportion of DBM. The rabbit's bone defect of femur condyle was filled with implantation of the composites (group A, n=12) or CPC (group B, n=12) or bone cement (group C, n=12). Animals were sacrificed at 6, 12, or 24 weeks after operation, and the implants were examined by histological technique and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results In group A, at the 6th week after operation, the interface region between implants and bone tissue became fuzziness, and was crossed by the generated fibers of bone tissue, and filled with woven bone growing inside into the composites; at the 12th week after operation, blood vessels, osteoblasts and new bone were generated inside of composites; at the 24th week after operation, the bone defects were recovered and became solid union, most of the implants were replaced by new bones. In group B, at the 6th week after operation, the interface of CPC and bone tissue was sharp, and was not crossed by new bones; at the 24th week after operation, the bone defects were still filled with materials of CPC and no new bone was found inside CPC. In group C, at the 24th week after operation, the interface of bone cement and bone remained non-union. Higher osteoblastic activity, more neogenetic blood vessels and higher growth rate of woven bone were observed in group A compared with those in group B. Conclusions For bone defect, the implantation of composites with DBM proportion of 0.2 can stimulate the growth of osteoblast, blood vessel and woven bone. It is biodegradable and can be replaced by autogenous bone.

Objective: To examine the effects of recombinant human growth hormone on the acute phase response in abdominal sepsis patients. Methods: Prospective unblinded trial was made with each patient serving as his/her own control.Eighteen abdominal sepsis patients were enrolled ranging in age from 24 to 60 yrs.All patients received 10 U/d of GH 48 hrs after performing drainage and for 7days.Results: Serum concentration of constitutive proteins, acute phase protein and cytokines were measured before and 1,3,5 and 7 days after GH administration.GH notablely increased serum constitutive protein levels(prealbumin, transferrin, fibronectin) and decreased serum acute phase protein level(CRP).Cytokine TNF-?,IL-1? and IL-6 had significant change after GH administration, but the changes were not relative to the change of acute phase response. Conclusion: Low-dose rhGH effectively modulated the acute phase response by attenuating production of the hepatic acute phase protein and increasing the synthesis of constitutive proteins.

Journal of International Oncology 2014;41(3):165-168
The microRNA let-7 family, functioning as a tumor suppressor, has emerged as a regulator of stem cell differentiation and tumor repression. The RNA-binding protein lin28 is a stem cell pluripotency factor, which contributes to the maintenance of stem cell characteristics and promoting cell malignant transformation.lin28 can block the maturity of let-7 by combining with the precursors of let-7 family miRNAs,which is itself able to repress lin28 by binding to the 3'-UTR of lin28 transcripts, thus forming a feedback loop. The double-negative feedback loop comprising lin28 and let-7 is involved in several biological processes such as differentiation of stem cell, tumorigenesis, invasion and metastasis, drug resistance and relapse, which couldbe a potential target for cancer therapy.

Journal of Environment and Health 1992;0(05):-
Objective To study the effect of methyl mercury on the development of rat offspring. Methods The male Wistar rats were divided into four groups randomly, each group was administrated methyl mercury by gavage every two days for two months, then, the rats were mated with healthy female rats. The development, growth and behaviors of offspring were investigated. Results Compared with the control, the body weights of offspring in groups of 1.170 mg/kg and 0.580 mg/kg were less and the development was tardy. The indexes that can reflect the level of development showed that the behaviors of offspring in experimental groups were damaged. Conclusion The male rats exposed to methyl mercury may produce an adverse effect on the development, growth and behaviors of their offspring.
