Favre-Racouchot syndrome, also known as nodular elastosis with cysts and comedones, typically presents with large black open comedones, furrows, and nodules in the periorbital region and over the malar eminence. The pathogenesis of Favre-Racouchot syndrome is still uncertain. However it has been postulated that damage from ultraviolet radiation, combined with some unknown host predisposition, leads to the degeneration of the supporting dermal connective tissue. We report a case of Favre-Racouchot syndrome that developed on the applied area of topical corticosteroid for a preceding post-herpetic neuralgia lesion. This case is unique to suggest that the catabolic effect of corticosteroid is superimposed on the UV-induced degeneration of dermal connective tissue as a pathogenic mechanism of Favre-Racouchot syndrome.

Favre-Racouchot syndrome is a cutaneous disease characterized by a degenerative process of dermis associated with comedones, furrows and nodules. It occurs on the face of aged men, a remarkable preference for the male, after prolonged exposure to sunlight. The pathogenesis of Favre-Racouchot syndrome is uncertain. The damage by UV exposure has been strongly suggested as a major cause. We present a typical case of Favre-Racouchot syndrome in a 65 year old male. The patient had numerous yellowish cysts, comedones and nodules on both cheeks. Histopathology of the lesion showed dilated pilosebaceous openings and large cyst-like spaces filled with multi-layered horny material in addition to pronounced solar elastosis in the dermis.

Journal of Korean Medical Science 1999;14(2):227-229
We report a 54-year-old male patient who developed an unusual form of generalized drug eruption. He had pain and breathlessness on the left chest wall. He had history of taking several drugs at private clinics under a diagnosis of herpes zoster. Two weeks later he had a generalized skin eruption. Examination showed multiple variable sized, mild pruritic, erythematous macules and papules on the face and upper extremities. Skin lesions take the form of a clinically consistent with disseminated superficial actinic porokeratosis (DSAP). Methylprednisolone 16 mg, astemisole 10 mg, oxatomide 60 mg was prescribed. Topical corticosteroid cream was applied. Within two months, his eruption had cleared almost completely. The pathogenetic mechanisms of this case are unclear, but drug and UV light have been considered.

Favre-Racouchot syndrome(nodular elastosis with cysts and comedones) is a peculiar complication of solar elastosis in which comedones, follicular cysts, and nodules of altered elastic tissue occur mainly sround the orbits, on the cheeks, on snd around the nose, and oceasionally in other exposed areas, but sornetimes on the neck or behind the ears. We present a typical case of the Favre-Racouchot syndrome in a 66 year old man with maxillary cancer. The patient had numerous yellowish cysts and black topped comedones located on the forehead, around the orbits and the nose, on the neck, and also behind the ears of 5 years duration. The histopathology of the lesion showed dilated pilosebaceous openings and epitheliaI lined cysts filled with layered keratin in addition to pronounced solar elastosis.

Favre-Racouchot syndrome is a disease of senile or actinic processes and another name is nodular elastosis with cysts and comedones. Clinically, facial skin shows, especially lateral to the eyes, multiple open and cystically dilatated comedones and can be defined as cutaneous disturbances characterized by a degenerative process of the dermis associated with cysts and comedones. Sunlight is a strong causative factor and dermal degenerative processes result in this condition. We report the case of a 78-year-old man who showed multiple yellowish papules on both sides of cheeks, the periorbital and, malar areas. He had had this condition for 25-years. His job used to involve physical labor and much exposure to sunlight. An excisional biopsy specimen from the facial malar lesion showed cystically dilated comedones with basophilically degenerated dermal tissue. We performed a therapeutic excision on the two large nodular lesions on both malar areas and applied topical tretinoin. The Patients clinical appearance was much improved 2 months later.

Chinese Journal of Plastic Surgery 2014;30(2):99-101
OBJECTIVETo observe the clinical effect of micro-plasma radio frequency treatment of facial post-burn hyperpigmentation.
METHODSFrom June 2012 to August 2013, a total of 25 cases with facial post-burn hyperpigmentation were treated with micro-plasma treatment for 3-5 times. The roller tip was used with setting of 60-90 watts and 3-4 passes were performed in different directions. Treatments were repeated at an interval of 8 weeks.
RESULTSAll patients tolerated the pain. After treatment, the facial hyperpigmentation improved. Complete recovery was achieved in 4 cases; significant improvement in 11 cases; moderate in 7 cases and no effect in 3 cases. No hyperpigmentation, depigmentation and scar formation was observed.
CONCLUSIONMicro-plasma radio frequency treatment is an ideal treatment for post-burn hyperpigmentation with lower side effect.
