Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 1987;0(01):-
Rats receiving unilateral nigral injection of 6 OHDA resulted in distinct reduction of DA (-88% ) , DOPAC(-80%) and HVA(-60%) in striatum of lesioned side, and the contents of 5HT and 5HIAA remained almost constant in comparison with that of contralateral striatum, suggesting selective lesion of nigrostriatal dopaminer-gic pathway induced by 6OHDA. Following 6OHDA lesion the rats exhibited circling behaviour after APO challenge. 1-Stephaniae ( 1-STP ) significantly antagonizied the action of APO in circling model in dose-dependent manner. Our results indicate that 1-STP possesses the ability to block DA receptor of central nervous system.

Objective To evaluate diagnosis and surgical treatment of carotid body tumors. Methods It was retrospectively reviewed that the diagnostic approaches, surgical operation methods and its related complications in 70 carotid body tumor cases treated in our hospital from May 1986 to May 2008.Results Diagnosis was established by computer tomography angiography (CTA) or magnetic resonance angiography (MRA). Surgical excision was successfully performed in 63 cases with 72 tumours. There were no postoperative deaths. Two cases developed hemiplegia following surgery. Temporary cranial nerve palsy occurred in 17 cases while permanent nerve palsy occurred in 4 cases. Sixty-two cases were followed-up from 6 months to 5 years. There were no deaths in operative cases, with local tumor recurrence in 2 cases and 3 cases died due to remote metastasis. Conclusion CTA or MRA is sufficient for the diagnosis and preoperative assessment of carotid body tumor and its related structures. Surgical modality should be adjusted according to the relationship between the tumor and the carotid artery. Full exposure of the surgical area, careful control of intraoperative bleeding and persistent maintainance of blood flow to the brain are important measures for successful surgery.

Objective To investigate the effects of dexamethasone on absorption of lung edema in rabbits with seawater drowning-induced acute lung injury. Methods Seawater(4 ml/kg body weight)was instilled into the lower trachea of ventilated and anesthetized rabbits. These rabbits were assigned randomly to receive intravenous injection of 1 mg/ kg body weight of dexamethasone(dexamethasone group,DG)or 2 ml of normal saline(control group,CG).Lung edema was measured by extravascular lung water index(EVLWI)using a gravimetric method.Three hours after treatment, epithelial Na~+ channel subunit-?(?-ENaC)mRNA and Na~+/K~+-adenosine triphosphatase subunit-?l(NKA-?l) protein abundances in lung tissues were respectively measured by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting, and NKA activity was measured by monitoring the release of inorganic phosphate(Pi)from adenosine triphosphate(ATP).Results The DG's EVLWI was significantly lower than the CG's[(0.508?0.089)vs.(0.648?0.102),P<0.05)],but the DG's NKA activity,?-ENaC mRNA and NKA-?l protein abundances were significantly higher than the CG's,correspondingly(P<0.05).Conclusions With up-regulation of the NKA activity and expressions of?-ENaC and NKA-?l,dexamethasone treatment could promote the absorption of lung edema in rabbits with seawater drowing-induced acute lung injury.

Objective To describe the prevalence and risk factors of insomnia among adults in YiBin City. Meth?ods Using multi-stage stratified cluster sampling, 12000 subjects over 18 years old were identified in YiBin City. The subjects were screened using the insomnia survey self-edited and risk factors of insomnia were identified through logistic analysis. Results A total of 11227 subjects completed the survey in which 1671 people (14.9%, 95%CI:14.2%~15.5%) were diagnosed insomnia using ICD-10. Among them, 9.4% (157 patients) had seeked for professional help. The multi?variate logistic analysis showed that low level of life quality(OR=2.42,P<0.01), jobless(OR=1.87,P<0.01), over 60 years old(OR=1.69,P<0.01), fewer years of education(OR=1.41,P<0.01), female(OR=1.41,P<0.01)and lower annu?al per capita income(OR=1.15,P=0.01)were risk factors in insomnia people. Conclusion The incidence of insomnia is high in YiBin city. Sleep quality in high-risk group needs more attention and corresponding measures should be taken in order to increase the rate of asking for help in insomnia people.

Objective To screen down regulated genes and find down regulated novel genes in gastric cancer. Methods Genes mRNA expression were detected between gastric cancer and normal gastric mucous membrane of five patients using cDNA microarray. Genes mRNA expression signals on hybridization membranes were analysized with computer software. Down regulated genes in gastric cancer were screened. cDNA suppression subtraction library was established by counterpart normal gastric mucous membrane mRNA(Tester) subtracting gastric cancer tissues mRNA(Driver) of five patients. After identification of the subtraction library, positive clones choosen randomly were sequenced , and down regulated novel genes in gastric cancer were screened. Some of the genes were identified by RT PCR.Results Down regulated genes in gastric cancer consist of 60 genes including tumor suppressing genes, apoptosis related genes, DNA replication and transcript or translate related genes, cell cycle related genes, cell migration related genes, etc. Two unknown gene fragments in gastric cancer were cloned. Conclusions Sixty down regulated genes in gastric cancer are confirmed. They are involved in gastric tumorigenicity and metastasis. cDNA subtraction library of gastric cancer was constructed successfully. Two down regulated novel gene fragments in gastric cancer was found.
