A 40-year-old woman presented with a pruritic erythematous eroded patch on the right labium majus which had been for 3 years. Histopathological findings were consistent with superficial basal cell epithelioma. Basal cell epithelioma of the labium majus is a rare neoplasm and its clinical appearance is usually nodular. In contrast to the other types of basal cell epithelioma, the superficial type occurs mainly on the trunk. We report a case of superficial basal cell epithelioma arising from the labium majus.

Diabetic neuropathy is an axonal degenerative disease characterized by progressive axonal atrophy and reduced axonal transport. We were interested in the potential neuroprotective effects of nerve growth factor against diabetic neuropathies. To this aim we studied the effect of nerve growth factor on satellite cells, which might play a trophic role toward the related neuron, of the dorsal root ganglion in the streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats by electron in microscope . Diabetes was induced in rats by the streptozotocin. And recombinant human NGF was administrated everyday for 10 consecutive weeks. The results obtained are as follows : 1.In the diabetic induced group, the satellite cells revealed irregular nuclei. The neuron-satellite cell interface was more irregular and plicated than that of control. Large vacuoles and dense bodies were observed and no defects were in the ribosomes and rough endoplasmic reticulum. In the vacuoles, medium electron dense, fiber -like materials were occasionally observed. 2. In the experimental group of diabetic rats treated with NGF for 10 weeks, nucleus was round and the neuron-satellite interface was more regular. Vacuoles and dense bodies were less seen than diabetic rats. In the cytoplasm, many microtubules were observed. In these studies, we considered that streptozotocin induces changes of the satellite cell structure and NGF might improve cellular changes of the satellite cell exposed with streptozotocin.

The propose of this study was to identify fatigue, pain and coping of pain and to compare the variables between fibromyalgia and chronic arthritis. The sample consisted of 133 patients who visited H university hospital. Data were collected by questionnaire from May 1 to September 30, 1999. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics. chi-test. pearson correlation coefficient. and ANOVA. As a results, most of all patients felt fatigue and the mean score of the fatigue was above average. The mean score of rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia patients on pain was higher than Osteoarthritis patients. and there was the statistically significant difference among three groups on pain(F=10.63. p=0.00). There was also the statistical difference among three groups on coping of pain(F=4.74, p=0.01). The mean score of rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia patients on coping of pain was higher than Osteoarthritis patients. Fatigue showed positive relationship with pain(r= .262, p= .002). and pain showed positive relationship with coping of pain(r=.319. p=.000). According to this finding, fibromyalgia patients and rheumatoid arthritis patients felt high fatigue and pain, therefore the development of nursing intervention for relieving fatigue and pain would be needed.

Journal of Menopausal Medicine 2019;25(2):100-107
OBJECTIVES: To summarize the evidence regarding the association of parity and breast feeding duration with the risk of osteoporosis in postmenopausal Korean women. This was because studies have been inconsistent regarding the effect of parity and breast feeding duration on the risk of osteoporosis. METHODS: A systematic literature search of relevant studies published by December 26, 2018 was conducted in PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, CINAHL, RISS, KISS, KMbase, and KoreaMed. Outcome estimates of odds ratio (OR) or standardized mean difference were pooled with fixed or random-effect model. In case of heterogeneity, subgroup analysis was conducted. RESULTS: Seven cross-sectional studies (with 3,813 subjects) were included in the analysis. OR for osteoporosis was 1.43 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.09–1.88, P = 0.010) in postmenopausal women with higher parity compared to those with less parity. Moreover, OR for osteoporosis was 1.93 (95% CI = 1.28–2.93, P = 0.002) in postmenopausal women with longer durations of breast feeding than in those with shorter durations of breast feeding. CONCLUSIONS: This study revealed that duration of breast feeding increased the risk of osteoporosis in postmenopausal Korean women. More cohort studies with high quality research designs are needed to confirm our results.

9.Curcumin-Induced Autophagy Augments Its Antitumor Effect against A172 Human Glioblastoma Cells
Jong Eun LEE ; Sung Sik YOON ; Eun Yi MOON
Biomolecules & Therapeutics 2019;27(5):484-491
Glioblastoma is the most aggressive common brain tumor in adults. Curcumin, from Curcuma longa, is an effective antitumor agent. Although the same proteins control both autophagy and cell death, the molecular connections between them are complicated and autophagy may promote or inhibit cell death. We investigated whether curcumin affects autophagy, which regulates curcumin-mediated tumor cell death in A172 human glioblastoma cells. When A172 cells were incubated with 10 μM curcumin, autophagy increased in a time-dependent manner. Curcumin-induced cell death was reduced by co-incubation with the autophagy inhibitors 3-methyladenine (3-MA), hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), and LY294002. Curcumin-induced cell death was also inhibited by co-incubation with rapamycin, an autophagy inducer. When cells were incubated under serum-deprived medium, LC3-II amount was increased but the basal level of cell viability was reduced, leading to the inhibition of curcumin-induced cell death. Cell death was decreased by inhibiting curcumin-induced autophagy using small interference RNA (siRNA) of Atg5 or Beclin1. Therefore, curcumin-mediated tumor cell death is promoted by curcumin-induced autophagy, but not by an increase in the basal level of autophagy in rapamycin-treated or serum-deprived conditions. This suggests that the antitumor effects of curcumin are influenced differently by curcumin-induced autophagy and the prerequisite basal level of autophagy in cancer cells.

10.Requirements and Self-evaluation of Knowledge and Skills Necessary for Effective Nutrition Teachers Perceived by School Foodservice Deititians.
Korean Journal of Community Nutrition 2009;14(2):190-205
The purposes of the study were to identify knowledge and skill levels required for effective nutrition teachers and to compare perceived need and dietitians' self-evaluation of the knowledge and skills. A total of 60 knowledge statements and 70 skill statements associated with 11 job functional areas were specified through a literature review and expert panel reviews. A total of 457 dietitians working at school foodservices in Seoul and Gyeonggi province were surveyed using a self-administrated questionnaire and 148 responses were returned. Excluding responses with significant missing data, 142 responses were used for data analysis. In terms of knowledge, 'sanitation, food safety and employee safety (4.60)' category received the highest perceived need score, followed by 'nutrition education (4.56)' and 'nutrition counseling (4.45).' The knowledge category that received the highest self-evaluation was 'nutrition and menu management (3.66)' while the category that received the lowest self-evaluation was 'teaching practices (2.83).' In terms of skills, the highest perceived need was associated with 'nutrition education (4.49)', followed by 'sanitation, food safety and employee safety (4.46)' and 'nutrition counseling (4.39).' The dietitians rated their skills related to 'sanitation, food safety and employee safety (3.67)' the highest but their skills related to 'teaching practices (2.84)' the lowest. The dietitians' self-evaluated knowledge and skill scores were significantly lower than their perceived need of the knowledge and skills in all job functional areas (P < 0.001). A quadratic analysis based on the requirement and self-evaluation of the knowledge and skills revealed that priorities of the education programs targeting school nutrition teachers or students preparing to be a nutrition teacher should be placed on improving knowledge and skills related to nutrition education, nutrition counseling, teaching practices, sanitation and employee safety, and nutrition and menu management. Educational programs for nutrition teachers should be designed to decrease the gaps between the need and self-evaluation of the knowledge and skills for effective nutrition teachers. The findings of the study can be used to develop education materials for nutrition teachers. The knowledge and skills identified in the study should be updated and revised regularly to reflect changes in regulations and current practices in school foodservice programs.
