4.Oxygen Desaturation following the Use of Midazolam and Fentanyl during Spinal Anesthesia.
Journal of Korean Academy of Adult Nursing 1999;11(1):12-22
The purpose of this study was to find out the effeet of midazolam and fentanyl on oxygcn saturation by pulse oximetry in surgical patients under spinal anesthesia. The subjects of this study were 83 patients who were operated on under spinal anesthesia, at a general hospital in Pusan. from December 1st, 1997 to March 31st, 1998. The subjects of Group 1 were 53 patients who did not receive either of midazolam and fentanyl. The subjects of Group 2 were 21 patients who received midazolam. The subjects of Group 3 were 9 patients who received both midazolam and fentanyl. Oxygen saturation was measured with a pulse oximeter by time series. The collected data were analyzed by the SPSS / PC~ program and the results of the study were as follows 1. There were no significant differences among the three experimental groups in terms of age or cardiopulmonary disease. 2. Among the three groups, there were statistically significant differences in Sp02 at 5 minutes after starting the operation or after intravenous injection of drugs. The SpO2 mean for Group 3 was 92.4%, for Group 2 it was 97.7%. and for Group 1 it was 98.2%. 3. Hypoxemia cases occurred in 88.9% of Group 3, 28.6% of Group 2, and 17.0% of Group 1, respectively. It is concluded that oxygen saturation mo4oring should be done routinely to all patients under ~spinal anesthesia, especially during operating tim4. and patients receiving midazolam and fentanyl should be monitored closely. After monitoring oxygen should be administered to all patients who developed hypoxemia.

6.Effect of An Allergic Contact Dermatitis on the Irritant Response in Guinea Pigs.
Korean Journal of Dermatology 1987;25(4):446-450
The effect of an allergic contact dermatitis on the irritant was studied using DNCB(2. 5% in acetone) as the sensitizing agent and sodium lauryl sulfate of various concentrations (0. 5, 1. 0, 2. 0% in Vaseline) as the irritant. Three groups of 30 albino Hartley strain female guinea pigs weighing between 350 g and 500 g were used. The results were as follows: 1. The animals which were sensitized with DNCB were shown to be significantly(p<0.05) more irritable than control animals. 2. The animals which were sensitized and challenged with DNCB were shown to be significantly(p<0. 05) more irritable than control and sensitized animals. These data suggest that allergic contact sensitivity as well as allergic contact dermatitis lower the threshold to a nonspecific irritant in guinea pigs, which may explain a mechanism of 'angry back syndrome.

Korean Journal of Pathology 2000;34(7):494-500
The p53 gene is believed to play an important role through the mutation and overexpression in the progression of various human malignant tumors. The type IV collagenase (matrix metalloproteinase: MMP-2) initiates the degradation of the extracellular matrix, and consequently may play a role in the tumor invasion and metastasis. To investigate the correlation between clinicopathologic features of the colorectal adenocarcinomas and benign tumors and expression of p53 and MMP-2 proteins, we performed an immunohistochemical study on 40 colorectal adenocarcinomas, 20 adenomas and 20 hyperplastic polyps by using the antibodies to p53 and MMP-2 proteins. The positive expression rate of the p53 protein in adenocarcinomas was 62.5% and significantly higher than in benign tumors. The positive expression rate of the MMP-2 protein was 47.5% in adenocarcinomas, but there was no expression of MMP-2 protein in benign tumors. The difference in p53 and MMP-2 expression rates between malignant and non-malignant tumors was statistically significant. The positive expression rate of p53 protein in the non-metastatic and metastatic adenocarcinomas was 59.1 and 66.7%, respectively. The positive expression rate of MMP-2 protein in the non-metastatic and metastatic adencarcinomas was 45.5 and 50.0%, respectively. The correlation between several clinicopathologic features and expression of p53 and MMP-2 protein was not statistically significant, but the rate of positive MMP-2 immunoreactivity showed a statistically significant difference between Astler-Coller stage B1 C1 group and B2 C2 group of adenocarcinoma (p=0.0431). We concluded that the expression of p53 and MMP-2 protein contributes to the cancer development and MMP-2 may play a certain role in the invasiveness of the colorectal tumor. p53 and MMP-2 protein expression is not correlated with lymph node metastasis.

Annals of Dermatology 1997;9(1):26-30
A few cases of reticulate acropigmentary disorders have been reported in Korea. Most of them were reticulate acropigmentation of Kitamura, but not acropigmentation symmetrica of Dohi. A 21 year-old male patient diagnosed as acropigmentation symmetrica of Dohi had been previously treated with various treatment methods unsuccessfully. Re-treatment with the Q-switched alexandrite laser(755 nm, 100nsec) showed a temporary improvement but a relapse of the lesion was experienced again. We describe a case of acropigmentation symmetrica of hi treated with the Q-switched alexandrite laser.

Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 1990;19(10-12):1303-1313
Thermography is a sensitive and reliable method for diagnosis of radiculopathy. Skin temperature alterations of the involved dermatome named thermatone are diagnostic for sensory root involvement in radiculopathy which can be demonstrated by thermography. Digital infrared thermographic imaging system using computer is development and could measure thermal difference more exactly without hazards or discomforts to patient. Authors present 186 cases of thermographic evaluation in herniated lumbar disc disease by digital infrared thermographic imging system and the results are evaluated with literature review.
