Child Health Nursing Research 2015;21(3):261-271
PURPOSE: This study was done to identify the meaning and substantial nature of NICU practice among nursing students by applying a research method based on hermeneutic phenomenology in an attempt to lay a foundation for enhancing theoretical and practical child nursing education. METHODS: The participants were eight nursing student who had experience in clinical practicing in NICU. In-depth interviews were performed from April to December, 2014 until data were fully saturated. Collected data were analyzed using Colaizzi's method. RESULTS: Seven theme clusters were extracted from fourteen themes. The seven theme clusters of the nursing students' clinical practice experience in NICU were: 1) Excitement about the clinical practice setting 2) Afraid of practice environment 3) Babies have priority over clinical practice 4) Comparing with adult nursing clinical practice 5) Feeling pity for babies and their parents 6) New awareness about the role of nurses 7) Demands of enhancing clinical practice. CONCLUSION: The results of the study provide useful information in understanding nursing students' practice experience in NICU and establishing effective strategies to support these nursing students.

Korean Journal of Hospice and Palliative Care 2015;18(4):294-305
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to provide baseline data for the development of an educational program for hospice care for college students. METHODS: A survey was conducted at three universities in B city with 143 students from September 5, 2014 through September 26, 2014. The data were analyzed by the SPSS 18 program. This study was approved by IRB. RESULTS: The college students' spiritual well-being was at a medium level. Their attitudes to death were neutral, and perception of hospice care was at a medium level. Most of the participants (93.0%) had no training in hospice care. The participants' awareness of the purpose of hospice care was at a relatively high level. Their awareness of the need for hospice care was at a moderate level. The participants' spiritual well-being and their attitudes to death showed a weak but positive correlation (r=0.179, P=0.030). The relationship between their spiritual well-being and awareness of hospice care were positively correlated (r=0.203, P=0.015). CONCLUSION: The participants' perception of hospice care was low. Most of them had no experience of hospice care education. Also, the higher the spiritual stability was, the higher the participants' perception of the purpose and the necessity of hospice care was. And their perception of the hospice care varied depending on their family relationship, satisfaction with school life, and cognition of hospice care. Therefore, we need consider these variables to develop a hospice education program to enhance college students' attitudes to death and their perception of hospice care.

Korean Journal of Gynecologic Oncology and Colposcopy 2000;11(2):174-183
OBJECTIVE: This study was performed to evaluate the effects of mutiple indications and age on the likelihood of finding cervical lesion in large loop excision of transformation zone(LLETZ). METHOD: We reviewed the medical records of 471 evaluable LLETZ of cervix for cervical neoplasia at the Yonsei University College of Medicine, from April 1996 to August l998. The indications for the LLETZ were grouped as being for treatment(biopsy-proven disease)(indication A), significant discrepancy among cytologic and histologic results(indication B), unsatisfactory colposcopic finding(transformation zone not fully visualized)(indication C), possible microinva- sion(indication D), and combinations of the above. RESULTS: The prevalence rates of cervical lesion in performed LLETZ for indication A alone, for indication B alone, for a combination of indication A and C, for a combination B and C, and for indication D alone were 85.7%, 56.5%, 82.3%, 42.6%, 95%, respectively. The data were then reanalyzed to determine the likelihood of finding high-grade disease on LLETZ specimen. Overall, those with preoperative high-grade cytologic or histologic characteristics were much more likely to have high grade disease(78.1%) than were those with preoperative low-grade cytologic or histologic characteristics(27.2%)(p<0.001). The influence of age on the likelihood of identifying diasease on the LLETZ is undertermined. CONCLUSION: Neither age nor the preoperative grade of disease are good discriminators of the likelihood that disease will be found on a LLETZ specimen, However, patients with preoperative high-grade disease are much more likely than those with preoperative low-grade disease to have high-grade dysplasia or invasive cancer on LLETZ.

Cutaneous metastasis from parotid gland carcinoma is very rare and there have been no re-ports in Korean literatures. Furthermore, it can often manifest as inflammatory type of skin metastasis and mimic a radiodermatitis. We report a case of a 31-year-old Korean man with cutaneous metastasis originated from parotid gland mucoepidermoid carcoinoma which mimicked clinically a radiodermatitis.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1996;30(2):115-120
A total of 672 surgically resected gastric carcinomas were reviewed, and fourteen cases(2.1%) of "gastric carcinoma with lymphoid stroma" were identified. The tumor was located mostly in cardia and body portion(86%). Thirteen patients one was lost to follow up were alive without recurrence of tumor. Grossly, this carcinoma was characterized by an expanding growth pattern or a multinodular pattern. Histologically, this carcinoma showed an irregular trabecular and alveolar arrangement and densely infiltrated lymphoid cells with lymph follicles. The tumor cell nests were widely separated by non-desmoplastic lymphoid stroma. On immunohistochemical study, T cells were evenly distributed throughout the tumor lesion with intimate contact with individual carcinoma cells, but B cells were mainly present within the germinal centers of lymph follicles. Thus, the organized immune response combined with cell mediated and humoral immunities against the carcinoma cells may be a defense mechanism of the host in this type of gastric carcinoma.

Leukemia is a rare disease in the newborn infant. We have presented an autopsy case of congenital acute myelocytic leukemia in a female neonate and discussecd with review of literature. At birth, she was relatively in good health with 4.2 kg in body weight except a large cephalhematoma on left parietal scalp and multiple subcutaneous nodules with ecchymosis on entire body surface. Hemoglobin concentration was 12.0 gm/, Hct 34.6% and erythrocyte count was 2.24 millions. Of 212,400 leukocytes/mm2, 47% were myeloblast. Biopsy of skin nodules reveal leukemia cutis, which disappear dramatically with anticancer drug. The infant was expired 12 days after admission due to intracerebral hemorrhage and acute renal failure.

OBJECTIVES: This study was planned to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of cefazedone in the treatment of patients with infectious disease in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. METHOD: Cefazedone was used in 20 patients with infectious disease in obstetrics and gynecology, who visited the department of obstetrics and gynecology, Yonsei university college of medicine, from June 1998 through July 1999. RESULTS: The mean age of the patients was 42.5 years(range of 18 to 68 years) and 17 of patients were diagnosed as pelvic inflammatory disease(PID), 2 were urinary tract infection due to huge ovarian tumor, and 1 was Bartholin's gland abscess. Cefazedone was proven its efficacy in treating infections of obstetrics and gynecology so as to reach 100% of response rate. The cefazedone was sensitive to all isolated organisms - G. vaginalis, E. coli, Staphylococcus, coagulase (+), etc. In the course of treatment, 1 patient experienced mild nausea, another 1 patient complained mild diarrhea, and another 1 patient showed transient leukopenia but their symptoms and signs were disappeared with only conservative management. There was no significant renal and hepatic function changes. CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that cefazedone is relatively effective in treating infections of obstetrics and gynecology to show excellent antibacterial effects and low incidence of complications.
