1.Effects of an Information Protocol on Anxiety and Nursing Satisfaction for Family Caregivers of Cerebrovascular Accident Patients in the ICU.
Journal of Korean Academy of Fundamental Nursing 2007;14(1):53-61
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of an information protocol for anxiety and nursing satisfaction of family caregivers. The caregivers were caring for a family member who had a CVA (cerebrovascular accident) and who had been admitted to the ICU (intensive care unit). METHOD: The research design was a non-equivalent control group non-synchronized design. Data were collected from April 1 to October 31, 2005 at D hospital in Busan City. The participants were 40 family caregivers of patients with a CVA admitted to the ICU. Caregivers in the experimental group participated in the information protocol for 30 min. Both groups were pre-tested before the intervention for two variables, anxiety and nursing needs. The post-test of both groups included anxiety and nursing satisfaction. The instruments used in this study were the Spielberger's state anxiety inventory (1976) and the nursing satisfaction scale developed by Molter (1979). RESULTS: Anxiety scores were significantly lower and nursing satisfaction scores were significantly higher for caregivers in the experimental group compared to those in the control group. CONCLUSION: The information protocol was effective in reducing anxiety and increasing the level of nursing satisfaction of family caregivers caring for an ICU patients with a CVA.

Korean Journal of Women Health Nursing 2013;19(4):219-229
PURPOSE: This study was conducted to identify awareness levels in regard to preconception care and gender differences targeting single undergraduate students in their 20s. METHODS: The study participants were 867 single undergraduate students aged 20~29 (523 women, 344 men). This was a descriptive research, in which awareness levels of preconception care and pregnancy were identified the through questionnaire surveys. RESULTS: Gender differences in the awareness of reproductive care before conception were found. Generally, women's awareness of issues related to preconception care and pregnancy was higher than that of men. Women recognized risk factors in pregnancy (chi2=22.85, p<.001) and positive behaviors (chi2=10.91, p = .012) better than men. Women's awareness of preconception care was significantly higher than that of men (t=8.37, p<.001). The awareness levels of the students who completed a reproduction related class (t=3.16, p = .002) and the students who knew about folic acid (t=-10.78, p<.001) in preconception care were statistically significantly higher. CONCLUSION: The results indicate that the ways to educate and alert students to major risk factors before pregnancy and other reproductive care content before conception is to provide education both single women and single men.

Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing 2022;31(4):458-468
Purpose:
The purpose of this study is to find out the meaning of self-care experiences of family members of mentally ill patients and describe its essential structure.
Methods:
The Giorgi's phenomenological research methodology was used. Six families participated in this study. In-depth individual interviews were used to collect data from October to December in 2021.
Results:
Five clusters of themes were identified. They were “Selfless life”, “Life on shaky grounds”, “Attempts to escape from the suffering”, “Moving forward on self-care path”, and “Happiness blooming in being together”.
Conclusion
The findings suggest that mental health care professionals should provide educational programs to enable families of patients with mental illness to recognize the necessity for self-care and discover ways to take care of themselves. In addition, it is necessary to develop policies to expand patient management services at mental health welfare centers so that families of patients with mental illness can secure time for self-care.

Forty cases of infiltrating duct carcinoma of the breast were examined immunohistochemically for expression of TGF-beta and angiogenesis in order to analyze significant correlation with prognostic parameters including tumor size, axillary lymph node metastasis, clinical stage, histologic grade, estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor status. The TGF-beta expression was observed in tumors center and advancing edges of tumors. To determine microvessel density for angiogenesis, we stained endothelial cells for Factor VIII related antigen and counted microvessel within tumor. The results were as follows: 1) The strong immunohistochemical expression of TGF-beta and higher counts of microvessels were observed in advancing edges of tumors (p<0.05). 2) The TGF-beta expression in the advancing edges of tumors was closely related to clinical stage and presence of axillary lymph node metastasis (p<0.05). 3) The mean microvessel counts were significantly higher in tumors from patients with axillary lymph node metastasis and increased with increasing clinical stage (p<0.05). 4) The TGF-beta expression was not related to histologic grade, estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor status(p>0.05). Therefore, the results suggested that the TGF-beta expression and angiogenesis in infiltrating duct carcinoma of the breast may play an important part in prognostic factors, closely related to the lymph node metastasis and clinical stage.

8.Two Cases of Corneal Neovascularization Improved by Electrocauterization and Subconjunctival Bevacizumab Injection.
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 2017;58(8):981-985
PURPOSE: To report an experience of improving symptoms through treatment with electrocauterization and subconjunctival bevacizumab injection in two patients with keratitis accompanied by corneal neovascularization and opacity. CASE SUMMARY: (Case 1) A 20-year-old woman visited our institution complaining of binocular blurred vision and congestion for the previous 3 years. Her best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 0.07 in the right eye and 0.4 in the left eye (Han Chun-suk visual acuity chart, decimal). The diagnosis was bilateral rosacea keratitis. Antibiotics, steroid eye drops and oral antibiotics were administered, but no improvement was observed. Electrocauterization was performed at the origin of the neovascularization of the cornea and bevacizumab was injected at the peripheral subconjunctiva in the right eye. Thereafter the corneal neovascularization did not recur, corneal opacity was reduced, and BCVA improved to 0.5. (Case 2) A 19-year-old woman visited complaining of left eye congestion for the previous 3 years. Her BCVA was 1.0 in the right eye and 0.08 in the left eye.The diagnosis was phlyctenular keratitis of the left eye. Antibiotics, steroid eye drops and oral antibiotics were administered, but no improvement was observed. Therefore, electrocauterization and subconjunctival bevacizumab injection were performed in the cornea of the left eye, after which corneal neovascularization and opacity decreased. CONCLUSIONS: In these cases, we report improvement of symptoms after treatment with electrocauterization and subconjunctival bevacizumab injection after failed treatment of palpebral sanitation, antibiotic and steroid.
