It is believed that the photopatch test is a valuable screening procedure for the determination of responsible antigenic substances in photoallergic contact dermatitis. But the technigues used for this procedure are cumbersome and require expensive equipment. In the present study, we adapted an easy and inexpensive photopatch test met- hod to our need. We report the results of this test method which was performed. in 21 patients with photodermatitis and 9 patients with polymorphic light eruption. 1. The UVB sensitivity determined by minimal erytherna dose (mean+-standard deviation) was I1618mW sec/cm in photodermatitis group, 108+ROmW sec/cm in polymorphic light eruption group and 126-+32mW-sec/cm in control group. But there was no significant difference among them (p>0. 05). 2. The reaction to UVA were negative in all groups. R. The photopatch test using IO potential photosensitizers revealed 12 positive responses in 9 patients; including 7 patients in photodermatitis group and 2 patients in polymorphic light eruption group. And the number of positive photopatch responses obtaied with each photosensitizer in RO patients with photodermatoses was 5 in chlorhexidine, 2 in paraaminobenzoic acid, musk ambrette and bithionol and 1 in chlorpromazine, respectively.

Vascular tumors of the breast are a rare disease. A hemangioma in the male breast is an extremely rare benign disease. We report a case of a 53-year-old-man with a capillary hemangioma of the breast.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify relationships between quality of sleep, symptom cluster, depression, environmental disorder, and quality of life among hospitalized cancer patients. METHODS: The subjects were 114 patients who underwent chemotherapy for colon cancer, gastric cancer, gynecologic cancer and breast cancer. They were recruited from the cancer center of a university hospital. Data were collected from August 4th to 30th, 2011. The questionnaires included the Korean sleep scale A (quality of sleep), MDASI-K (symptom cluster), the environmental sleep disturbing scale, Zung's depression scale, and the Korean version of EORTC QLQ-C30. The collected data was analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, multiple regression analysis using the SPSS 19.0 program. RESULTS: Functional QOL was negatively associated with symptom QOL (r=-.798, p<.001). Symptom cluster, depression, & spouse (46.3%) were the most powerful predictors for functional QOL (46.3%) and symptom QOL (53.4%). CONCLUSION: It is evident that oncology nurses need to evaluate two dimensions of quality of life for cancer patients, for example, functional and symptom QOL. We recommend nurses develop specific protocols for relieving physical symptoms and alleviating depression, and furthermore test the effectiveness of them.

OBJECTIVE: To systematically review previous studies and to assess, via a subgroup meta-analysis, the combined odds ratio (OR) of prognostic factors affecting the success of miniscrew implants (MIs) inserted into the buccal posterior region. METHODS: Three electronic searches that were limited to articles on clinical human studies using MIs that were published in English prior to March 2015 were conducted. The outcome measure was the success of MIs. Patient factors included age, sex, and jaw of insertion (maxilla vs. mandible), while the MI factors included length and diameter. A meta-analysis was performed on 17 individual studies. The quality of each study was assessed for non-randomized studies and quantified using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. The meta-analysis outcome was a combined OR. Subgroup and sensitivity analyses based on the study design, study quality, and sample size of miniscrews implanted were performed. RESULTS: Significantly higher success rates were revealed for MIs inserted in the maxilla, for patients ≥ 20 years of age, and for long MIs (≥ 8 mm) and MIs with a large diameter (> 1.4 mm). All subgroups acquired homogeneity, and the combined OR of the prospective studies (OR, 3.67; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.10-6.44) was significantly higher in the maxilla than that in the retrospective studies (OR, 2.10; 95% CI, 1.60-2.74). CONCLUSIONS: When a treatment plan is made, these risk factors, i.e. jaw of insertion, age, MI length, and MI diameter, should be taken into account, while sex is not critical to the success of MIs.

Diabetic nephropathy is characterized by one or a combination of the following lesions: (1) glomerular involvement with three distinctive patterns: diffuse glomerulosclerosis, nodular glomerulosclerosis, and exudative lesions; (2) arteriolo sclerosis; (3) urinary tract bacterial infection with pyelonephritis and sometimes emphysematous pyelonephritis. Emphysematous pyelonephritis is an uncommon life-threatening and acute suppurative infection of the kidney, and usually occurs in diabetic female patients. It is characterized by the production of intraparenchymal gas. Glucose fermentation has been considered the main cause of the gas formation. We presented two illustrative nephrectomy cases of emphysematous pyelonephritis in addition to the typical pathologic features of diabetic nephropathy.

PURPOSE:This study was conducted to analyse the characteristics of the full-term neonates admitted in neonatal period and to evaluate the relationship between readmission and perinatal, maternal factors. METHODS:We studied retrospectively the neonatal readmissions who were born in Il Sin Christian Hospital during the 18-months period (January 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008). RESULTS:After discharge, 415 neonates were readmitted during the first month of life. The most common cause for readmission was jaundice (82.7%). Among them, 211 (61.5%) neonates were fully breast feeding and 119 (34.7%) were mixed feeding infants. The second cause was rota enteritis (6.3%). Others included dehydration (4.1%), suspected sepsis (3.1%), other enteritis (1.7%), pneumonia (0.7%), cardiac problem (0.5%), meningitis (0.5%), urinary tract infection (0.2%), and other urinary problem (0.2%). There were no significant relationships between readmission and neonatal, maternal factors. CONCLUSION:While newborns discharged from hospital are at risk for readmission, but relationship among neonatal, maternal, and other factors are not proven. Education of risk factors for jaundice to parents should be done and prevention of hospital acquired infection is important. Further research should include relationships between neonatal, maternal factors and the other factors influencing neonatal readmission.

We report a case of simultaneous contralateral renal transitional cell carcinoma and renal cell carcinoma. A 63-yr-old male presented with hematuria. He was diagnosed with left renal pelvis tumor and contralateral renal cell carcinoma. Subsequently, the patient received left nephrectomy and paraaortic lymphadenectomy (transitional cell carcinoma, pT3N2M0). Post-operatively, chemotherapy of renal pelvis tumor and angioinfarction of contralateral renal cell carcinoma are being considered. We believe that management planning should be individualized in such cases.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to identify the effect of video programs of cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation (CPCR) education of cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation of nurses. METHODS: The subjects of the study were 64 nurses working in a university hospital. Nurse's CPCR performance have been measured four times (pre-test, post-test at immediately, 3 months and 6 months after intervention). Data were collected from February to August 2013. RESULTS: There were significant differences in knowledge, attitude, self-efficacy, and performance between groups by measure time. And there were significant interactions in knowledge, self-efficacy, and performance between groups, within groups, except for the attitude. The video programs of CPCR interventions appear to be effective in the improvement of knowledge, self-efficacy, and performance, as compared to the control group. CONCLUSION: The video programs of CPCR education was an effective intervention to improve and retain the level of knowledge, attitude, self-efficacy and performance. And the video program of CPCR education have an advantage of self-learning effect for nurses with shift work. Therefore video programs of CPCR education will be utilized for continuing nurse's education.
