The purpose of this study is to compensate for susceptibility and a ferromagnetic body artifact using CFA and TGV on MR Imaging. A total of 30 patients (15 men and 15 women, mean age: 45 years) were performed on head and neck diseases. MR Unit used a 1.5T superconducting magnet (GE medical system, High Density). This study have investigated by changing with CFA and TGV (70, 90, 110, 130, 150) searching for compensation values about susceptibility and a ferromagnetic body artifact in 60 kg standards of body weight (p<0.05). As a quality results, Image qualities were obtained at different score from CFA and TGV (70, 90, 110, 130, 150=3.23+/-0.35, 4.31+/-0.02 4.23+/-0.21, 5.12+/-0.25, 7.13+/-0.72, 8.31+/-0.01, 5.21+/-0.15, 6.14+/-0.08, 5.23+/-0.72, 5.91+/-0.06, p<0.05). Absolute CNRs (TG, CNRpre, CNRpost) were acquired with (70:-1.44+/-0.11, -2.7+/-0.04, 90:-2.18+/-0.42, -4.41+/-0.43, 110:-2.89+/-0.43, -5.23+/-0.02, 130:-2.34+/-0.05, -5.26+/-0.01, 150: -2.09+/-0.08, -3.87+/-0.12, p<0.05). In conclusions, this study could be compensated for metal and flow artifacts surrounding the tissues having artifact by changing CFA and TGV.

The purpose of this experiment is to know the relation of the detection and characterization of liver's diseases as comparison of finding at MR imaging using a Ferucarbotran (SPIO) and Gd-EOB-DTPA (Primovist) agents in diffuse liver disease. A total of 50 patients (25 men and 25 women, mean age: 50 years) with liver diseases were investigated at 3.0T machine (GE, General Electric Medical System, Excite HD) "with 8 Ch body coil for comparison of diseases and contrast's uptake relation, which used the LAVA, MGRE." All images were performed on the same location with before and after Ferucarbotran and Gd-EOB-DTPA administrations (p<0.05). Contrast to noise ratio of Ferucarbotran and Gd-EOB-DTPA in the HCC were 3.08+/-0.12 and 7.00+/-0.27 with MGRE and LAVA pulse sequence, 3.62+/-0.13 and 2.60+/-0.23 in the hyper-plastic nodule, 1.70+/-0.09 and 2.60+/-0.23 in the meta, 2.12+/-0.28 and 5.86+/-0.28 in the FNH, 4.45+/-0.28 and 1.73+/-0.02 in the abscess and ANOVA test was used to evaluate the diagnostic performance of each disease (p<0.05). In conclusions, two techniques were well demonstrated with the relation of the detection and characterization of liver's diseases.

BACKGROUND: Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) can degrade a wide range of extracellular matrix components. The degradation of microvascular basal lamina by MMPs may be, in part, responsible for the hemorrhagic transformation, brain edema, and accentuation of ischemic injury in cerebral ischemia. Although MMP-2 and MMP-9 were reported to increase in cerebral ischemia, the temporal patterns of their increase are uncertain. METHODS: By using gelatin zymography, we investigated the activity of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in 10 micrometer frozen sections of ischemic and non-ischemic hemispheres in spontaneous hypertensive rats (SHRs) after variable time of reperfusion following 2 hours of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCA:O). Adjacent 2mm-thick slices were stained with 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) solution to define the area of ischemic damage. RESULTS: The infarcted zone could be visualized well by TTC staining after 3 hours of reperfusion. MMP-2 was observed in all samples examined, while MMP-9 was observed only in the ischemic hemispheres. In the ischemic hemispheres when comparing with non-ischemic sides, MMP-9 was increased in all groups undergoing MCA:O, as early as in 2 hours of MCA:O group, while MMP-2 was increased only after 6 days in the reperfusion group. MMP-2 and MMP-9 activities per unit volume of infarction increased during the reperfusion period and were highest after 6 days. CONCLUSIONS MMP-9 increased early after MCA:O in the SHR and both MMP-2 and MMP-9 increased during the reperfusion period. The purpose of this study provides measurements of radiation dose from MDCT of head, chest, abdomen and pelvic examinations. A series of dose quantities that are measured of patient weight to compare the dose received during MDCT examinations. Data collected included: weight together with CT dose descriptors, volume CT dose index (CTDIvol) and dose length product (DLP). The effective dose was also estimated and served as collective dose estimation data. Data from 1,774 adult patients attending for a CT examination of the head (n=520) or chest (n=531) or abdomen (n=724) was obtained from spiral CT units using a same CT protocol. Mean values of CTDIvol was a range of 48.6 mGy for head and 6.9, 10.5 mGy for chest, abdomen examinations, respectively. And mean values of DLP was range of 1,604 mGy.cm for head, 250 mGy.cm for chest, 575 mGy.cm for abdomen examinations, respectively. Mean effective dose values for head, chest, abdominal CT were 3.6, 4.2, and 8.6 mSv, respectively. The degree of CTDIvol and DLP was a positive correlation with weight. And there was a positive correlation for weight versus CTDIvol (r2=0.62), DLP (r2=0.694) in chest. And head was also positive correlation with weight versus CTDIvol (r2=0.691), DLP (r2=0.741). We conclude that CTDIvol and DLP is an important determinant of weight within the CT examinations. The results for this study suggest that CT protocol should be tailored according to patient weight.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical characteristics and outcomes of patie nts with neuroblastoma aged less than 1 year. METHODS: From January 1997 to December 2007, 41 patients aged less than 1 year were diagnosed with neuroblastoma. Patients were divided into 3 risk groups according to the stage of the disease and N-myc amplification. Low-risk patients underwent surgery with (stage 2) or without (stage 1) short-term chemotherapy. Intermediate-risk patients underwent chemotherapy and surgery with or without local radiation therapy. High-risk patients underwent chemotherapy, surgery, radiation therapy, and high-dose chemotherapy/autologous stem cell rescue (HDCT/ASCR). RESULTS: While tumor relapse occurred in only 1 patient, 7 patients died of treatment-related toxicities. Causes of treatment-related death included infection during conventional chemotherapy in 5 patients and acute myocarditis during HDCT/ASCR in 2 patients. The overall 5-year survival (+/-standard error) and 5-year event-free survival (EFS) rates after diagnosis for all 41 patients were 82.8+/-5.9% and 80.0+/-6.3%, respectively, with a median follow-up of 58 (9-137) months. The 5-year EFS rates for low-risk, interme diate-risk, and high-risk patients were 100%, 68.4+/-10.8%, and 66.7+/-19.3%, respectively. CONCLUSION: Increased efforts to reduce infection-associated toxicity deaths during conventional chemotherapy are needed to further improve the survival of patients with neuroblastoma aged less than 1 year.

Background: Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) constitutes 10%–20% of all malignant lymphomas and has a high cure rate (5-year survival, around 90%). Recently, interest has increased concerning preventing secondary complications (secondary cancer, endocrine disorders) in long-term survivors. We aimed to study the epidemiologic features and therapeutic outcomes of HL in children, adolescents, and young adults in Korea. Methods: We performed a multicenter, retrospective study of 224 patients aged < 25 years diagnosed with HL at 22 participating institutes in Korea from January 2007 to August 2016. Results: A higher percentage of males was diagnosed at a younger age. Nodular sclerosis histopathological HL subtype was most common, followed by mixed cellularity subtype.Eighty-one (36.2%), 101 (45.1%), and 42 (18.8%) patients were classified into low, intermediate, and high-risk groups, respectively. Doxorubicin, bleomycin, vinblastine, dacarbazine was the most common protocol (n = 102, 45.5%). Event-free survival rate was 86.0% ± 2.4%, while five-year overall survival (OS) rate was 96.1% ± 1.4%: 98.7% ± 1.3%, 97.7% ± 1.6%, and 86.5% ± 5.6% in the low, intermediate, and high-risk groups, respectively (P = 0.021). Five-year OS was worse in patients with B-symptoms, stage IV disease, highrisk, splenic involvement, extra-nodal lymphoma, and elevated lactate dehydrogenase level.In multivariate analysis, B-symptoms and extra-nodal involvement were prognostic factors for poor OS. Late complications of endocrine disorders and secondary malignancy were observed in 17 and 6 patients, respectively. Conclusion This is the first study on the epidemiology and treatment outcomes of HL in children, adolescents, and young adults in Korea. Future prospective studies are indicated to develop therapies that minimize treatment toxicity while maximizing cure rates in children, adolescents, and young adults with HL.
