1.Ovarian mature cystic teratoma with histologic features of chronic thyroiditis: Histologic analysis of 4 cases.

We have reviewed ovarian mature cystic teratomas with features of chronic thyroiditis that were diagnosed at the department of pathology, Seoul National University Hospital during 7 years, 1984-1991. Twenty three case(8%) containing thyroid tissue among 285 ovarian mature teratomas were available for histopathologic examination. Among these, 4 cases(1.4%) showed lymphocytic infiltration with lymphoid follicle formation. These four cases were examined according to the strict histologic criteria of autoimmune thyroiditis and reactive non-autoimmune thyroiditis for the purpose of differentiation of pathogenesis. Two cases were similar to autoimmune in nature and the other two cases simply seemed to reflect reactive features to adjacent stimulating elements. In conclusion, thyroid tissue present in ovarian cystic teratoma may have histologic features of chronic thyroiditis of either autoimmune or non-autoimmune origin.
2.Impact of Superior's Ethical Leadership as Perceived by Nurses on Nursing Performance: Mediating Effect of Faith in Supervisor.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to elucidate nursing performance to superior's ethical leadership as perceived by nurses and the mediating effect of faith in supervisor. METHODS: For this study a descriptive survey design was used. Participants were 258 nurses who worked in general hospital and completed the self-report questionnaire. Data were collected from May 17 to May 31, 2017 and were analyzed using independent t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, and Path analysis with SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 21.0. RESULTS: Superior's ethical leadership as perceived by the nurses and faith in the supervisor were significant variables predicting the level of nursing performance and accounted for 48.1% of the variance. Faith in the supervisor as a mediator was found to have a partial mediating effect. CONCLUSION: In order to improve the nurses' performance, it is important to establish a work environment so that hospital nurses can perform their work with faith in their supervisors, as well as having superiors who are ethical leaders.

3.Influence of Information Literacy and Perception of Patient Data Privacy on Ethical Values among Hospital Clinical Nurses.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to elucidate clinical nurses' ethics germane to information literacy and perception of patient data privacy and thus help nurses to develop more positive and consolidated ethical values. METHODS: For this study a descriptive survey design was used. Participants were 142 nurses who worked in a hospital and completed self-report questionnaires. Data were collected from August 1 to 5, 2016 and were analyzed using independent t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS 22.0. RESULTS: Ethical value had a positive correlation with information needs (r=.25, p=.002) in information literacy as well as in direct patient care (r=.27, p=.001), shift work (r=.20, p=.016), patient information management (r=.39, p<.001), and communication (r=.24, p=.004) in perception of patient data privacy. Patient information management, educational background, and age were significant variables predicting the level of ethical values and accounted for 21% of the variance. CONCLUSION: Ethical values education with particular emphasize on managing patient information should be encouraged for nurses who are younger and have a lower education level. Findings indicate a need for education programs to guide clinical nurses to utilize appropriate information when solving ethical challenges in every day nursing practice.

4.New Nurses’ Work Adaptation Experience

Purpose:
This study aimed to explore the work adaptation experiences of new nurses who underwent stress while transitioning into the workforce.
Methods:
In-depth semi-structured group and individual interviews were conducted with 18 nurses working at a general hospital from December 2018 to February 2019. Colaizzi’s phenomenological approach was followed for the data analysis.
Results:
Four clusters of themes were drawn from meaningful data regarding the nurses’ adaptation experience: “Weakened mind and body”, “Reaching one’s mental and physical limits”, “Fighting back against work stress”, and “Assuming the role of a nurse”. The new nurses were the most stressed during the three to six months following independence from the preceptor, and after seven months on the job, they experienced some resolution by adapting to human relationships with their colleagues.
Conclusions
This study suggests a broad and longer perspective to which new nurses need to adapt, both at work and in human relationships, to overcome their difficulties.
5.Lipoma Arborescens in the Knee Joint: A Case Report.

Lipoma arborescens is a rare intra articular lesion consisting of a villous lipomatous proliferation of the synovial lining and occurs mainly in the knee joint. It is mostly found in older patients with joint trauma, meniscal lesions or chronic synovitis. The authors describe one case of a 29-year-old male with multiple lipomas in the right knee joint who has a history of joint trauma. He had joint effusion, pain, giving way and restricted terminal extension of the right knee. Histology and gross findings are consistent with the lipoma arborescens. After arthroscopic excision of the masses, symptom was relieved completely and the patient had gained full range of motion of the right knee joint.

6.Effects of Group Art and Music Therapy in Newly Hired Nurses: A Mixed Method Study

PURPOSE: This study was done to evaluate the effects of group art and music therapy on decreasing job stress and increasing resilience of newly hired nurses. METHODS: A mixed method design was used. Quantitative data (N=35) were collected through questionnaires from November 2 to December, 5, 2016 and were analyzed using a one-tailed paired t-test by SPSS/WIN 22.0 program. Qualitative data (N=18) were collected through group and individual interviews from November 10, 2016 to February 3, 2017 and were analyzed using a qualitative thematic analysis. RESULTS: The first hypothesis “participants will have lower job stress after the art and music therapy” was not statistically supported (t=−1.12, p=.270). The second hypothesis, “participants will have higher resilience after the art and music therapy” was supported (t=−2.13, p=.041). Four main themes were derived from the interviews: ‘looking into myself’, ‘feeling a camaraderie’, ‘healing of my mind and body’, ‘change in the intimidated self,’ CONCLUSION: The findings indicate that art and music therapy for newly hired nurses may positively influence resilience. Hospital organizations should utilize the therapy for newly hired nurses to improve their resilience so that they can realize their own values and increase positive emotion despite job stress.

7.Clinical Study of Prevalence of Antibiotic Resistance of Escherichia coli in Urinary Tract Infection in Children: A 9-year Retrospective, Single Center Experience.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of antibiotic susceptibility and resistance of Escherichia coli in urinary tract infections (UTIs) in children. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical records of 212 inpatients aged 18 years or younger with UTIs treated at the Pediatric Department of Dongguk University Gyeongju Hospital between January 2008 and December 2016. For comparison, patients were divided into three groups according to age as follows: group 1, ≤1 month; group 2, >1 month to ≤12 months; and group 3, ≥13 months. The antibiotic resistance rates from January 2008 to December 2012 (study period 1) and from January 2013 to December 2016 (study period 2) were analyzed statistically by group. RESULTS: As the patient age increased, the antibiotic resistance rate to ampicillin (P=0.013), levofloxacin (P=0.050), piperacillin/tazobactam (TZP) (P<0.001), and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (P=0.002) increased. The frequency of extended spectrum beta-lactamase producing E. coli showed a significant difference from 5 cases (4.6%) in study period 1 and 16 cases (15.8%) in study period 2 (P=0.007). The antibiotic resistance rate of E. coli was compared between the two time periods and we found that the antibiotic resistance rate to cefotaxime was significantly increased from 5.4% to 16.8% (P=0.008) and that to TZP was significantly decreased from 40.5% to 7.9% (P<0.001). CONCLUSION: Over the past 9 years, the resistance rate to cefotaxime has increased but the resistance rate to TZP has decreased. Thus, it is important to continue to investigate the antibiotic resistance rates of bacteria in the community.

Human hairs have been known to be easily contaminated with microorganisms. This study was performed in order to measure what bacterial species and how much microorganisms contaminate human hairs in specific place. Virgin human hairs were left at 6 positions in inside corner and beside window in a laboratory for 7 days. The number of viable bacterial cells, which were determined by most probable number method, contaminating the human hairs was measured at a maximum of 10(6)/g hair and a minimum of 10(3)/g hair in inside corner and maximum of 10(6)/g hair and a minimum of 10(3)/g hair beside window. The bacterial cells-contaminating human hairs were observed via fluorescence light microscopy after 4',6-diamino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) staining. The bacterial community contaminating human hairs was analyzed via the thermal gradient gel electrophoresis (TGGE) technique, based on the diversity of the 16S-rDNA variable region. In total, approximately 20 bacterial species were detected from 12 groups of hair samples. In this study, general experimental methods-fluorescence staining, TGGE and MPN-were combined to develop new method for observation and estimation of bacteria contaminating human hairs.
