Promoting women's health lifestyles are important due to their connection to family health. The purpose of this study was to analyse women's health lifestyles(HLP) and their effects on women's life-cycle, so in order to develop a program in a women's health care center. The subjects included were 1080 women over 18 years old living in Wonju city, and were selected by stratified and purposive sampling. The data were collected through a questionnaire and interview. The Cronbach alpha, %, mean, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and regression in SPSS PC Win. package was used to analyze the data. The sample was sepernted into three groups premarital group 20.2%(premarital women between 18 and 40 years old), delivery and children rearing group 49.9%(marital women between 18 and 40 years old), over middle agedelderly group 29.9%(women over 41 years old). Significant difference were found in the HPL according to group. Also, relating variables, such as self-efficacy, family functions, health locus of control and gender role perception that were considered relating variables to HPL significantly differed among the tree groups. HLP significantly correlated with self-efficacy, family functions, HLOC and gender role perception in all participants and at all groups. The regression analysis of HPL was interpreted 40.6% with relating variables, self-efficacy, health attention, family functions, and internal locus of control, health perception, power other locus of control and chance locus of control in all participant. Self-efficacy, family functions, health attention were considered important variables in premarital group, self-efficacy, family functions, internal locus of control, health attention, health perception and power of control were important in delivery-rearing group. Self-efficacy, health attention, internal locus of control, family functions and health perception were important in middle aged-elderly group. As a result, we found the differences HPL scores and relating variables according to life-cycle groups. Therefore, we should prepare health promoting education programs for women according to women's life cycles. Also we suggest that women's health care centers based on communities was needed for proper management of women's health.

Results: Among grit’s sub-areas, consistent effort was significantly associated with gender (male students scored higher than female students (t=2.20, p=.029), scores were higher when parental relationships were intimate (F=5.88, p=.003), and the closer the relationship with the homeroom teacher, the higher the score (F=3.51, p=.032). The regression model in this study was statistically significant (F=26.730, p<.001), and the variables that influenced steady effort (Grit) were self-resilience (β=.331, p<.001), and self-emotion regulation (β=.290, p<.001), sex (β=-.142, p=.024), the explanatory power of the variable’s continuous effort was 29.4%. Conclusion The middle school age is the time to discover life goals and dreams. Grit is persistent efforts to achieve our goals and in order to raise the level of Grit, we need to develop and provide ongoing curriculum and tailored school programs that will increase self-resilience and self-emotion control skills.

We report a case of fine needle aspiration cytology of endodermal sinus tumor of the ovary. A 13-year-old girl complained of abdominal mass and pain. The abdominal sonography revealed a well-demarcated huge mass, which was solid and multiseptated. Percutaneous fine needle aspiration was performed from the mass. The smears revealed moderate cellularity, which was arranged in sheets or clumps of pleomorphic malignant cells on mucoid background. The valuable characteristic features of tumor cells were papillary configuration, vacuolated cytoplasm and intracellular and extracellular hyaline globules. The diagnosis was confirmed later by histologic study of surgical resection of the specimen.

PURPOSE: The effects of telephone intervention on self-care practices and quality of life for gynecological cancer patients under chemotherapy was investigated. METHODS: A non-equivalent control group pre-test post-test quasi-experimental design was used. The subjects were women cancer patients who had received less than two chemotherapy sessions at C university hospital of Chonnam province(26 in the experimental group: 25 in the control group). The patient's self-care practices(Na & Lee, 1999; Jang, 2004) and quality of life(Lee & Jo, 1997) were measured three times. using a questionnaire. The data was analyzed by Repeated Measures ANOVA, the Friedman test, and the Mann-Whitney test using the SPSS window version 12.0 program. RESULTS: This study showed that the score of self-care practices and quality of life for the experimental group under telephone counseling were higher than those of the control group. CONCLUSION: This study revealed that a telephone intervention as supportive nursing care for women cancer patients under going chemotherapy was effective for self-care practices and qualify of life during the recovery period. Futhermore, this study also suggests that telephone counseling can serve as a continuing nursing supportive intervention for women cancer patients for the upcoming stages of further chemotherapy.

A fifty five-year-old man who had been decrease in levels of coagulation factors V, VIII, X and XI was monitored by thromboelastography(TEG) to evaluate the effectiveness of blood component replacement therapy during operation of chest wall reconstruction. Cryoprecipitate(9 units) was infused in the preoperative day because the clot formation rate was slow( : 27.5 ). During the operation cryoprecipitate(9 units), fresh frozen plasma(9 units), whole blood(2 units) and packed red blood cells(6 units) were transfused for blood loss of 4000 ml and abnormal findings on TEG. The operation site was not abnormal bleeding tendency. So TEG patterns were normal toward the end of operation. As a result, TEG is effective to monitor hemostasis and guide for transfusion therapy of coagulation abnormalities associated with intraoperative blood loss.

BACKGROUND: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) continues to be a major cause of nosocomial infection and a molecular typing is necessary for proper epidemiologic investigations of sources and moles of spread in an outbreak. An nosocomial outbreak of MRSA in a neonatal intensive care unit at Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital was suspected. To investigate the clonality of isolates and control the spread of nosocomial outbreak, we performed plasmid restriction analysis of MRSA isolates from patients and medical staffs. METHODS: We studied 7 MRSA strains (umbilicus 4, blood 1, urine 1 and pus 1) from patients in a neonatal intensive care unit and the MRSA strains from nares and hands surveillance cultures of 26 medical staffs (4 medical doctors and 22 nurses). All MRSA strains were tested for antimicrobial susceptibility and plasmic analysis after EcoRI restriction. We analyzed the plasmid patterns of MRSA isolated from patients and compared with those from medical staffs. RESULTS: Ten MRSA strains (from 7 nares and 3 hands) were isolated from surveillance cultures of 26 medical staffs. Seven out of 10 MRSA strains from medical staffs revealed identical pattern of antibiogram which was the same pattern in all 7 MRSA strains from seven patients. Plasmid restriction patterns were classified 6 groups from A to F showing 2-10 bands. Six out of 7 MRSA strains from the patients showed group A(A1 5, A31) and 5 out of 10 MRSA strains from the medical staffs showed group A(A1 1, A21, A32, A41) and remainders showed different plasmid restriction analysis patterns. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that plasmid restriction analysis is a rapid, inexpensive, and good discriminating molecular typing of MRSA outbreak and is useful for the epidemiologic investigation of MRSA outbreaks in the clinical laboratory.

OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to develop cancer patients' symptom management guideline, and to develop and test the utility of the web-based guideline service system. METHODS: Based on the literature review, guidelines for symptom management for nausea/vomiting, fatigue, constipation, diarrhea, and oral mucositis were developed. A web-based cancer patients' symptom management system was developed on the basis of guideline developed in the first stage of the study. Forty-five oncology nurses were recruited and asked to evaluate and validate the system by rating level of satisfaction with function, content and effectiveness of the web-based service after they used the website for cancer patients care. RESULTS: Regarding the function of the system around 50% of oncology nurses expressed satisfaction with the system. Regarding the content of the system, nurses expressed highest satisfaction with reliability of information(66.7%) and lowest satisfaction with sufficiency of information (37.7%). Regarding the effectiveness of the system in terms of knowledge enhancement, about 40% of nurses indicated that they satisfied with the system. In terms of usefulness of the system, 48.9% of nurses expressed their satisfaction with the system. CONCLUSION: The result of this study has implications on future use of a web-based guideline for managing symptoms of cancer patients.
