Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2005;35(1):135-142
PURPOSE: This study was aimed at developing an efficient nursing method for the management of constipation by comparing the effects of abdominal meridian massage on the symptoms of constipation. METHOD: The subjects were determined by the Rome II criteria and the Constipation Assessment Scale from Aug 30 through Sep 26, 2002. They were randomly divided into two groups: one experimental group of 16, another control group of 15. Abdominal meridian massage was given to the experimental group and no massage was given to the control group. The frequency of defecation and severity of constipation by CAS were measured. The data was analyzed with the t-test, chi-square-test, and repeated measures ANOVA. RESULTS: There was a significant improvement in frequency of defecation, and severity of constipation in the experimental group compared to the control group. CONCLUSION: Abdominal meridian massage can be considered an effective nursing method for the management of constipation among CVA patients.

3.The Pupils of Korean Neonates.
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1992;33(11):1099-1103
In an attempt to know the nature of the pupils in neonates, the authors studied the pupil diameter and net miosis to the light stimulation of 70 neonates ranging from 27.3 weeks to 42.0 weeks of gestational age. The mean corneal diameter was 9.3mm. The mean pupil diameters of awakening infants (200 1ux) and in bright light stimulation were 3.1mm and 2.1mm respectively. All the cases had the response to light stimulation and the mean net miosis was 1.0mm. Anisocoria of 0.5mm to 1.0mm was detected in 11 infants (16%). Thus it may be warranted that the careful investigation to search for neurologic abnormalities is necessary if the pupil size of the neonate is more than 2 standard deviation from the mean (smaller than 1.7mm or larger than 4.5mm in dim illummation), or if their pupils do not respond to light challenge.

Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2004;34(1):123-131
PURPOSE: This study was aimed to identify the effects of a ten-week stretching exercise program on physiological, psychological functions, and activities of daily living(ADL) among elderly women. METHOD: Using a quasi-experimental design, the experimental group received a ten-week stretching exercise program 3 times a week from March to May in 2002. They were divided into 22 persons in the experimental groups in 2 halls where the program was incorporated, and 22 persons in the control group in 2 halls, where the program wasnot incorporated. Data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, the chi-square test, Fisher's Exact test, and ANCOVA was considered significant as a 2-tailed test. RESULT: There was a significant improvement in diastolic blood pressure(P=0.023), total cholesterol (P=0.019), triglycerides (P=0.002), spine ROM(P=0.000), trunk and hip-joint ROM(P=0.000), percent of body fat(P=0.039) as physiological functions, depression(P=0.041) as a psychological function, and activities of daily living(P=0.001) in the experimental group compared to the control group. CONCLUSION: A stretching exercise program showed good effects on improving physiological functions, psychological functions and activities of daily living among the elderly women in a city. Therefore, we recommend this program be utilized as a health promoting program for the elderly in the community.

7.Survey of the knowledge, safety climate, and compliance with hospital infection standard precautions among dental hygienists.
Journal of Korean Academy of Oral Health 2017;41(4):237-242
OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to examine the knowledge, safety climate, and compliance with hospital standard precautions among dental hygienists, and investigate the influencing factors. METHODS: A biased sampling method was used. Using the modified questionnaire, data were collected from 146 dental hygienists working at dental hospitals, general hospitals, and University hospitals, during September to October 2015. Data were entered and analyzed using software SPSS 20.0. RESULTS: The knowledge, safety climate, and compliance score of the hygienists regarding hospital standard precautions, were high when evaluation was carried out during healthcare accreditation or its preparation. The most important factor affecting compliance with the hospital standard precautions was working experience. CONCLUSIONS: Knowledge, safety climate, and compliance with hospital infection standard precautions were all high, on certification by the healthcare accreditation system.

8.The association of subjective oral health awareness with dental caries, dental prostheses, periodontal status of Korean adults
Journal of Korean Academy of Oral Health 2019;43(1):8-13
OBJECTIVES: In order to aid the development of practical oral health improvement programs for adults, this study examined whether a correlation exists between oral health indices assessed by experts and self-perceived oral health status. METHODS: Raw data from the second year (2013–2015) of the sixth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were analyzed. Among those surveyed, adults over the age of 19 were designated as research subjects. RESULTS: The DT indices, prosthetics indices, and Community Periodontal indices were higher when the subjective oral health status was “Bad.” CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study demonstrated the consistency between subjective and objective oral health status. Thus, self-perceived oral health status is a reliable index to evaluate adult oral health projects for improving the quality of life of adults, improving their oral health, and evaluating future oral health services.

Journal of the Korean Society of Biological Psychiatry 1999;6(1):81-88
OBJECTIVES: Significant progress has been made in understanding psychosocial, psychological, and environmental factors associated with suicide. However it is only recently that attention has been paid to the understanding of the neurobiology of suicide. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between platelet serotonin level and suicidal behavior and psychological features of the suicidal attempters. METHODS: After a suicidal attempt platelet serotonin level was measured from 21 patients and compared it with those from depression patients and normal controls. Also MMPI, HAM-D, Barratt impulsiveness scale(BIS) were done to evaluate their psychological features. RESULTS: 1) There was no significant difference in sex ratio of the suicidal attempters. 2) There was no significant difference in platelet serotonin levels among three groups. 3) The analysis of MMPI revealed that the scores of D, Hs, Pt in clinical scales were significantly higher in suicide patients and scores of D, Pa, Si were in depression patients. 4)The HAM-D score was significantly higher in depression and suicide patients, especially in depression patients. 5) The analysis of Barratt impulsiveness scale revealed that the scores of nonplanning, motor and cognitive impulsiveness scale were significantly higher in suicide patients. CONCLUSIONS: There was no significant difference in platelet serotonin levels among three groups. However the analysis of psychological features revealed significant differences. Therefore we concluded that psychological examinations are benefit to evaluate the suicidal tendency.

Journal of Korean Academic Society of Nursing Education 2019;25(2):238-250
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between sexual knowledge, attitude, and satisfaction of sex education in university freshman. METHODS: The participants were 275 freshman students under the age of 20 years old. Data were collected in 2017 using a self-report questionnaire. RESULTS: The average scores of participants' sexual knowledge, attitude, and satisfaction of sex education were 24.22±4.94 out of 38 points, 90.81±15.86 out of 168 points, and 11.05±3.08 out of 20 points, respectively. With respect to the demographic characteristics, there were statically significant differences in sexual knowledge according to chances of relationship engagement (F=6.19, p=.002) and residence type (F=3.67, p=.013). Both sexual attitudes and satisfaction of sex education showed significant differences by major (t=3.20, p=.002; t=2.65, p=.009), types of high school (F=3.39, p=.019; F=3.53, p=.015), and interest in previous sex education during teenage years (F=2.88, p=.015; F=6.22, p<.001). Sexual knowledge showed a statistically significant correlation with attitudes (r=.153, p=.011). CONCLUSION: There is insufficient sex information available for college students. It is necessary in the future to develop sex education programs that are matched to college students' needs.
