1.Eribulin for Advanced Breast Cancer: A Drug Evaluation.

Eribulin is a synthetic microtubule dynamics inhibitor that was developed from a marine natural product halichondrin B. It exhibited in vitro and in vivo activities against a wide number of malignancies. A number of advanced phase trials showed improved survival following eribulin treatment in pretreated advanced breast cancer patients. This review provides an overview of the background to the therapeutic use of eribulin in oncology, including its pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, clinical efficacy, safety, and potential economic factors.

4.Microcalorimetric study on host-guest complexation of naphtho-15-crown-5 with four ions of alkaline earth metal.

Thermodynamic parameters of complexation of naphto-15-crown-5 with four alkaline earth ions in aqueous media was determined using titration microcalorimetry at 298.15 K. The stability of the complexes, thermal effect and entropy effect of the complexation is discussed on the basis of the guest ions structure and the solvent effect. The stability constants tendency to vary with ion radius was interpreted. Complex of naphtha-15-crown-5 with calcium ion is very stable due to the synergism of static electric interaction and size selectivity between the host and the guest.

6.Enhancements of Mouse Hepatic Cytosol Enzyme Activities Involved in UDP-Glucuronic Acid Synthesis, Glutathione Reduction and Conjugation with Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA) and Its Structural Analogs.

Activities of hepatic cytosol enzymes involved in UDP-g1ucuronic acid synthesis as well as in glutathione reduction and conjugation systems were determined following administrations of butylated hydroxyanisole (approximately 5 mmol/kg body weight/day) and of equimolar intake doses of its structural anglogs. These compounds included the multi-functional group side chain compounds (t-butyl hydroquinone, 4-hydroxy- anisole, hydroquinone, benzoquinone) and the mono-functional side chain compounds (t-butyl benzene, anisole, phenol). They were administered to mice for 10 days either by mixing them in the diet or by oral intubations. Results showed that glutathione Stransferase activities were markedly increased by all tested compounds except for the t-butyl benzene. Activities of glutathione reductase and glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase were increased together on1y by BHA and t-butyl hydroguinone. UDP-glucose dehydrogenase and NADH:quinone reductase activities were significantly elevated by the multi-functional side chain compounds, but not by the mono-functional analogs. The relations between chemical structures of tested BHA analogs and elevations of the measured hepatic cytosol conjugation (detoxification) system enzyme activities for the metabolism and excretion of BHA analogs are discussed.

8.Expert consensus on icotinib as adjuvant therapy for non-small cell lung cancer.

Clinical studies have established the clinical application of epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI) adjuvant targeted therapy. Compared with chemotherapy, the high efficiency and low toxicity of targeted therapy increases the survival benefit of patients. Icotinib was the first EGFR-TKI with independent intellectual property rights in China and the third EGFR-TKI to be marketed in the world. In order to summarize the experience of icotinib and other EGFR-TKIs in the adjuvant treatment of non-small cell lung cancer and further standardize and guide the clinical application of icotinib, experts from the China International Exchange and Promotive Association for Medical and Health Care and the Guangdong Association of Thoracic Diseases have organized an expert consensus on the adjuvant treatment of non-small cell lung cancer with icotinib, which is expected to provide clinicians with evidence-based medical evidences for postoperative targeted drug using.

9.Report of Two Cases of Hypomelanosis of Vitiligo Type Probably due to Benoquin.

Two cases of vitiligo-type hypomelanosis followed by the local application of Benoquin ointment for the treatment for the treatment of melasma are reported. These two cases of hypomelanosis are unwanted and unintended side effects probably caused by the application of monobenzyl ethers of hydrcquinone (monobenzone). Monobenzone blocks the enzyme tyrosinase and thereby prevents the conversion of tyrosine to dihydroxyphenylanine, a precursor of melanin, and since this does not destroy melanocyte or facilitate the loss of melanin. The skin contact with the material will not occur, repigmentation will slow but eventuaIly complete.

An esophageal foreign body has clinical significance because it may cause serious complications such as esophageal perforation, mediastinitis and/or aorto-esophageal fistula. A prompt attempt to remove an esophageal foreign body via flexible endoscopy should be made when the shape of the foreign body is especially sharp and long as it can easily lead to esophageal perforation. We report here on a case of endoscopic removal of an impacted esophageal foreign body, a fishhook, that hade been present in the esophagus for two months, and there were no serious complications from the procedure.
