With the acceleration of population aging and the continuous development of surgical techniques, the proportion of elderly patients receiving surgical treatment is increasing. However, the decline of the body function of elderly patients leads to low preoperative functional reserves, and they are considered to be a high-risk population for poor postoperative recovery. Multi-modal pre-rehabilitation is a new preoperative optimization strategy based on the concept of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) by which exercise, nutritional support, and psychological intervention are provided to patients before surgery, aiming to improve patients' perioperative functional status and prognosis. This article reviews the core content of the pre-rehabilitation of elderly surgical patients and its preoperative application research in elderly patients, in order to provide a theoretical basis for clinical practice of the pre-rehabilitation concept in elderly surgical patients.
