Endoscopic ultrasonography(EUS) has been used in assessing the depth of cancer invasion of the stomach. However, there are pathologic findings coexisting cancers which are unable to be detected by EUS resulting in mis-staging preoperatively. To find out the causes of mis-staging in determining the depth of cancer invasion, we analysed the pathologic findings of mis-staged cases of gastric cancer by EUS. (continue...)

6.Some observations about the endoscopic diagnosis of colon cancer
Journal of Practical Medicine 1998;344(1):44-48
This prospective study was conducted with 159 patients of colon cancer who underwent an endoscopy and an operation at the Hospital K in Hanoi. Most frequent symptoms were abdominal pain -81.8%, change of rectal habit- 74.2%, large bowel obstruction-12.6%. The symptoms were lasting for 10.7 months. Rigid endoscopy was performed on 11.3% of patients; and flexible on 88.7%. A majority of tumors -55.99%, were detected in sigmoid colon, 25.9% were necrotic tumors. Synchronous polyps were found in combining with 23.3% of tumors. Endoscopic accuracy reached to 96.9%. In conclusion, endoscopy is the method of choice for detecting the colon cancer

7.Ability of diagnosis of pancreatic adenocarcinoma by two dimensional ultrasound in comparing with CT scanner and endoscopic ultrasound
Journal of Practical Medicine 2002;435(11):25-27
Studying on 35 patients were preoperative diagnosed as pancreatic adenocarcinoma received operations in ViÖt §øc hospital during 2000-2001 showed that: 29 patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma and 6 patients without the disease. The two dimensional ultrasound found 18 cases (62%) with specificity (50%) and correct (60%), value of positive predict (85.7%). The rate of precise diagnosis of two dimensional ultrasound, CT scanner, and endoscopic ultrasound were 60%, 72.7%, and 83.3%, respectively.
