OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of local administration of recombinant adenovirus of human adiponectin (hAPN) Ad-hAPN-EGFP on tibial defect repair of SD rats.
METHODSTibial defect (2 mm) models of 36 SD rats (72 sides) were randomly divided into three groups (A, B, and C; n=24). The three groups were injected with Ad-hAPN-EGFP, Ad-EGFP, and normal saline, respectively, during operation and the day after operation. A week after the operation, the expression of hAPN and osteogenesis-related factors were detected by real-time polymerase chain reaction. Three weeks after operation, the tibias were examined by micro-computed tomography, hematoxylin-eosin staining, and Masson staining to evaluate the restoration of bone defects.
RESULTS1) The hAPN expression was detected in group A but not in groups B and C. Osteogenesis-related factors expression of group A was significantly higher than that of the other groups (P<0.05). 2) Osteogenesis (including bone mineral density, relative bone volume, trabecular number and trabecular thickness) in group A were more evident than those in groups B and C (P<0.05). No significant differences were found between groups B and C (P>0.05).
CONCLUSIONLocal administration of recombinant adenovirus Ad-hAPN-EGFP may be an effective strategy to improve the restoration of bone defects in vivo.

The priority of the modernization of Chinese medicine at present is the standardization of Chinese medicine practice, including syndrome differentiation, disease diagnosis, standardized therapeutic program, etc. For this reason, the primary work is to establish a concise disease-syndrome differentiation and treatment system (CDSDTS) under the guidance of Chinese medicine theory, holding the core advantages and effectiveness of Chinese medicine, and aiming at creating a simplified theoretical and practical program facilitating for operation and spreading. It is not a mere simplification or careless reduction, but a normalized program of treatment according to the essence of Chinese medicine. Although the therapeutic effect might be somewhat lost, it can be widely approved, thereby, it would make contributions for the inheritance and development of Chinese medicine.

International Journal of Oral Science 2017;9(2):63-73
Throughout the twenty-first century, robotic surgery has been used in multiple oral surgical procedures for the treatment of head and neck tumors and non-malignant diseases. With the assistance of robotic surgical systems, maxillofacial surgery is performed with less blood loss, fewer complications, shorter hospitalization and better cosmetic results than standard open surgery. However, the application of robotic surgery techniques to the treatment of head and neck diseases remains in an experimental stage, and the long-lasting effects on surgical morbidity, oncologic control and quality of life are yet to be established. More well-designed studies are needed before this approach can be recommended as a standard treatment paradigm. Nonetheless, robotic surgical systems will inevitably be extended to maxillofacial surgery. This article reviews the current clinical applications of robotic surgery in the head and neck region and highlights the benefits and limitations of current robotic surgical systems.

Qumazi is a commonly used Tibetan medicine. With a long history, it can be found in the Four Medical Tantras written by gYu-thog rNying-ma Yon-tan mGon-po since the 8th century AD. Qumazi grows in mudflats and fields, including species growing in highlands, lowlands, mountains and farmlands. According to records in Crystal Beads Materia Medica, it features green sword-shaped leaves, thin stems with red veins, inserted panicles, white chicken-like flowers and copper needle row-like roots. However, there are many inconsistent morphological descriptions for Qumazi plants in many Chinese versions of Tibetan medicine books. In this article, after studying ancient and modern Tibetan medicine books, consulting experts and conducting surveys, the authors confirmed that Qumazi belongs to Rheum of Polygonaceae, including Rheum nobile Hook. f. et. Thoms, R. globulosum Gage, R. alexandrae Hook. f. et. Thoms, R. pumilum Maxim and R. delavayi Franch. In some regions, Qumazi is substituted by R. spiciforme Royle and R. przewalskyi Losinsk. After the Chinese version of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Drug Illustrations was published in 1972, Qumazi has been miswritten as P. sibiricum Laxm in many Chinese versions of Tibetan medicine books, perhaps because P. sibiricum Laxm has many similar features with Qumazi as described in Crystal Beads Materia Medica and then is mistranslated from Tibetan to Chinese versions. According to records, Qumazi can reduce edema and is mainly applied to treat the minamata disease in clinic.

Objective To explore the changes in neuroglobin(NGB)expression in rat cerebral cortex induced by acute and chronic hypoxia at high altitude. Methods Seventy SD rats were randomly divided into normal control and experimental groups, and in the latter group, the rats kept in a high-altitude research base in Kekexili(4600 m),while the control rats were kept in a facility at the altitude of 2295 m.The rats in the experimental group were divided into 6 groups with the exposure time of 12,24,48,72 h,1 week and 1 month. An oximeter was used to measure the SaO2 level.Semi-quantitative PCR and Western blotting were performed to detect the expression levels of NGB mRNA and protein in the cortical neurons of the rats after the exposure. Results After explosure of the rats to hypoxia at high altitude for 12h,the SaO2 was lowered to(70.70±2.83)%and increased gradually as exposure time prolonged, but remained lower than that in the control group throughout the exposure.RT-PCR showed a rapid increase of NGB mRNA expression after 24-h exposure to hypoxia, followed by gradual decrease till recovery of the normal level at 1 week;the expression slowly increased after 1 week and maintained a high level till 1 months.showing significant difference from that in the control group(P<0.05).Western blotting showed an identical pattem of NGG protein expression alterations during the experiment. Conclusion NGB expressions in the cerebral cortex increase significantly after acute and chronic hypoxia at an altitude of 4600 m to enhance the tolerance to hypobaric hypoxia, suggesting the possible role of NGB as an important endogenous mechanism for protecting the neural tissues against hypoxic injuries.

OBJECTIVETo explore the causes of nonspecific chronic cough in children and relationship between transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) gene polymorphisms and nonspecific chronic cough.
METHODSA total of 195 children with chronic cough were followed up half a month, one month and three months after their first visit to hospital. Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) was used to examine polymorphisms of the TRPV1 gene in the children. A total of 205 healthy or surgical children without chronic cough served as the control group.
RESULTSThe etiologic distribution of the 195 children with chronic cough was as follows: 96 (49.2%) cases of cough variant asthma (CVA), 48 (24.6%) cases of CVA complicated by upper airway cough syndrome (UACS), 34 (17.4%) cases of post-infectious cough, and 17 (8.7%) cases of UACS. Three genotypes were identified in both groups at positions rs222747 (CC, GC and GG), rs222748 (CC, TC and TT) and rs8065080 (CC, TC and TT). The frequencies of genotype and allele at position rs222747 did not accord with the law of Hardy-Weinberg. There was no significant difference in frequencies of genotype and allele at positions rs222748 and rs8065080 between the two groups.
CONCLUSIONSCVA, UACS and post-infectious cough are common causes of nonspecific chronic cough in children. TRPV1 gene polymorphisms at positions rs222748 and rs8065080 may be unrelated to nonspecific chronic cough in children.
