1.Dangerous Predatory Publishers Threaten Medical Research.
Journal of Korean Medical Science 2016;31(10):1511-1513
This article introduces predatory publishers in the context of biomedical sciences research. It describes the characteristics of predatory publishers, including spamming and using fake metrics, and it describes the problems they cause for science and universities. Predatory journals often fail to properly manage peer review, allowing pseudo-science to be published dressed up as authentic science. Academic evaluation is also affected, as some researchers take advantage of the quick, easy, and cheap publishing predatory journals provide. By understanding how predatory publishers operate, researchers can avoid becoming victimized by them.

3.Life, death, transitions
Philippine Journal of Pathology 2021;6(1):4-5
I am sharing with you the first issue of the Philippine Journal of Pathology for 2021, our tenth issue since we breathed life into our society publication in 2016. We have two case reports of gynecologic tumors, and an autopsy case of a disseminated hematolymphoid malignancy. Four original articles include a molecular pathology study for lung cancer, a real-world observational study on pooled testing among asymptomatic individuals, a cost effectiveness study on diagnostics for leukemia in the Philippines, and a 5-year soft tissue tumor review. On top of these, we are featuring a new section – Opinion, and we have on board, Dr. Raymundo Lo, to regularly provide his take on issues relevant to our profession and practice. This issue also comes alive with the inclusion of the entries and winners of the PSP 69th Annual Convention Photomicroscopy Contest sponsored by Omnibus Biomedical Systems.

7.Journal metrics of Clinical and Molecular Hepatology based on the Web of Science Core Collection.
Clinical and Molecular Hepatology 2018;24(2):137-143
BACKGROUND/AIMS: Eight years have passed since Clinical and Molecular Hepatology changed its language policy to English-only in September 2010. The journal has been included in PubMed Central since September 2010. Present title continues the Korean Journal of Hepatology since June 2012. It has been indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection as an Emerging Sources Citation Index journal since 2015. I sought to determine whether the change in language policy was successful based on journal metrics. I also investigated whether the journal has become one of the top-ranked world journals in the category of gastroenterology and hepatology. METHODS: The following journal metrics were calculated or analyzed based on the journal’s bibliographic information from 2012 to 2017 and the Web of Science Core Collection database: citable and non-citable articles, country of authors, total cites, impact factor, the immediacy index, country of citing authors, citing journal titles, and the Hirsch index. RESULTS: From 2012 to 2017, there were 282 citable articles. Authors from 29 countries have published in the journal. The number of total citations in 2017 was 611. The impact factor increased from 2.1 in 2014 to 2.8 in 2017. The citing authors were from 85 countries, and their papers have been cited in 663 journals. The Hirsch index was 19. CONCLUSIONS: Based on journal metrics, Clinical and Molecular Hepatology has succeeded in becoming a top-ranked international journal 8 years after changing its language policy to English-only.
