6.Influence of Spirituality and Job Satisfaction on the Compassion Competence of Hospice Nurses
Korean Journal of Hospice and Palliative Care 2022;25(4):169-177
Purpose:
The aim of this study was to examine the influence of spirituality and job satisfaction on the compassion competence of hospice nurses.
Methods:
This was a cross-sectional study of 118 hospice nurses from 16 hospitals in Daejeon, Chungcheong Province, and Jeolla Province. A self-administered survey was conducted using a structured questionnaire including the Spirituality Scale, Index of Work Satisfaction, the Compassion Competence Scale for Nurses, and general socio-demographic information. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the t-test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and hierarchical linear regression analysis using SPSS for Windows version 26.0.
Results:
Compassion competence was correlated with spirituality (r=0.66, P<0.001) and job satisfaction (r=0.52, P<0.001), and spirituality was correlated with job satisfaction (r=0.44, P<0.001). Spirituality (β =0.513, P<0.001) and job satisfaction (β=0.273, P<0.001) were significant factors affect-ing the compassion competence of hospice nurses, after adjusting for the sociodemographic and work-related covariates. The step-by-step results from hierarchical linear regression analysis also indicated that spirituality had a stronger impact than job satisfaction on compassion competence.
Conclusion
Our findings demonstrate the importance of spirituality, which plays a role in guiding the compassion competence of hospice nurses. It is necessary to support the spirituality and job satisfaction of hospice nurses, which could facilitate their compassion competence and thereby contribute to improving the quality of hospice and palliative care.

8.Resilience and Overcoming Experiences of Coronavirus Disease 2019 Patients Hospitalized in a Single-Room Isolation Ward: A Mixed-Methods Study
Asian Nursing Research 2024;18(1):68-78
Purpose:
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused patients to suffer from various physical and psychological symptoms and social challenges, but the impact was harder for those COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in single-room isolation wards in South Korea. This study aimed to investigate resilience, anxiety, depression, and sleep quality of those patients and the relationships between those variables, and explore the patients’ experience of resilience during the COVID-19 treatment in single-room isolation wards.
Methods:
This study employed a mixed-methods approach, collecting quantitative data through surveys and qualitative data through semistructured interviews conducted between May and October 2022. Quantitative surveys encompassing disease-specific and demographic information, visual analog scales to assess anxiety, depression, and sleep quality, and the Connor–Davidson resilience scale were administered to patients (N = 153). Qualitative thematic analyses were conducted following interviews with a subset of patients (N = 13) belonging to the high-resilience group.
Results:
Resilience exhibited a negative correlation with anxiety and depression, while showing a positive correlation with sleep quality. Factors affecting resilience include having a spouse, educational attainment, and depression. The qualitative thematic analysis results were categorized into: (1) facing the reality of being isolated in a room; (2) struggling to accept and adapt to isolation; and (3) seeking connections in isolation.
Conclusions
This research sheds light on the challenges faced by individuals in isolation and underscores the crucial role of resilience in overcoming such challenges. The resilience observed in these patients is grounded in both interpersonal and profound spiritual connections. These findings underscore the necessity for nurses to develop customized strategies to alleviate the impacts of social isolation.

10.Clinical efficacy of radiotherapy and chemotherapy combined with surgical treatment for the patients with primay mediastinal B-cell lymphoma.
Journal of Experimental Hematology 2015;23(1):123-126
OBJECTIVEThis study was to investigate the clinical efficacy of radiotherapy and chemotherapy combined with surgical treatment for treatment of patients with primay mediastinal B-cell lymphoma.
METHODSA total of 62 patients with primay mediastinal B-cell lymphoma was selected, out of them 26 patients received radiotherapy and che-motherapy were selected as A group, other 36 patients received radiotherapy and chemotherapy combined with surgical treatment and were selected as B group. Clinical efficacy were observed and compared after treatment.
RESULTSIn A group 5 patients achieved complete remission (CR), 5 patients achieved partial remission (PR), the total remission rate of A group was 27.8%; in B grouop, 13 patients achieved complete remission (CR), 10 patients achieved PR, the total remission rate of B group was 63.9%. The average survival time of patients in B group was 57.244 months, and the average survival time of patients in A group was 55.541 months, the former was higher than latter. The 5 years survical rate of patients in A group was 57.7%, and the 5 years survival rate of patients in B group was 80.6%, the latter was significantly higher than former.
CONCLUSIONSRadiotherapy and chemotherapy combined with surgical treatment for patients with primay media-stinal B-cell lymphoma has been confirmed to be effective, and may be used in clinic.
