OBJECTIVETo compare the efficacy difference in the treatment of functional dyspepsia between acupuncture at the acupoints selected by pattern/syndrome differentiation and domperidone.
METHODSSeventy cases were randomized into an acupuncture group (35 cases) and a western medication group (35 cases). In the acupuncture group, Zusanli (ST 36) and Neiguan (PC 6) were selected. Taichong (LR 3) and Neiting (ST 44) were added for excess syndrome while Gongsun (SP 4) and Yinlingquan (SP 9) were added for deficiency syndrome. A pair of electrodes was attached to one acupoint and an assistant point (2 mm next to the acupoint centripetally) and stimulated with disperse-dense wave at 2 Hz/100 Hz, once a day. In the western medication group, domperidone was prescribed for oral administration, 10 mg each time, three times a day. In the two groups, the treatment of 5 days made one session and 4 sessions were required totally. Nepean dyspepsia index (NDI) was compared after treatment, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 months after treatment between the two groups respectively.
RESULTSThe score of symptom and score of life quality in NDI after treatment and at each follow-up time point were improved obviously in the acupuncture group as compared with those before treatment (all P < 0.01). In the western mediation group, the score of symptom and the score of life quality in NDI after treatment and in follow-up of 1, 2 and 3 months were improved obviously as compared with those before treatment (all P < 0.01), but the differences were not significant in follow-up of 4 and 5 months (both P > 0.05). Compared with the western medication group, the symptom score of NDI was reduced obviously after treatment and in each time point of follow-up in the acupuncture group (P < 0.05, P < 0.01), and the score of life quality was increased obviously (P < 0.05, P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONAcupuncture at the acupoints selected by pattern/syndrome differentiation and domperidone are effective in the treatment of functional dyspepsia. Domperidone is unsatisfactory in the long-term effect, but acupuncture achieves the positive short-term and long-term effects on functional dyspepsia.

Objective To investigate the efficacy of endoscopic intranasal structure reconstruction surgery for rhinogenous headache. Methods 82 cases of rhinogenous headache were given endoscopic intranasal structure reconstruction. Compared VAS scores before and 6 months after treatment, counted the effective rate. Results Among the 82 patients, 69 patients(84. 1%) were cured, 8 cases (9. 8%) were of obvious effect, 5 cases (6. 1%) were invalid, and the total efficiency was 93. 9%. VAS scores of the mucosal contact headache group before treatment were greater than that of the sinus headache group (P<0. 05). Compared with VAS scores before treatment, both of the two groups had lower VAS scores after treatment (P<0. 05), but there was no significant difference between the two groups after treat-ment (P>0. 05). Conclusion Endoscopic surgical operation can remove the extrusion of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses and factors of nasal congestion, and then reconstruct normal anatomical structure of nasal cavity, thus restoring normal function of paranasal sinuses. It has good therapeutic effect on rhinogenic headache.

6.Efficacy of ossicular chain reconstruction using titanium implants in single-stage tympanoplasty.
Chinese Journal of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2012;47(4):270-273
OBJECTIVETo explore the efficacy of total and partial ossicular chain reconstruction using titanium implants.
METHODSTotal of 106 patients (107 ears) underwent ossiculoplasty using titanium from June 2008 to January 2011. Eighty-six ears had partial ossicular replacement prosthesis (PORP) and 21 ears had total ossicular replacement prosthesis (TORP). Patient data were collected retrospectively from the database of surgical cases. Patients were assessed during 6 to 30 months postoperatively to establish middle- and long-term hearing results. Average postoperative air-conduction gain and air-bone gap (ABG) were measured at four frequencies: 0.5, 1, 2, and 4 kHz.
RESULTSPostoperative air-bone gap of 20 dB or less than 20 dB was obtained in 83.7% of PORP cases versus 71.4% of TORP cases. All the cases obtained significant postoperative air-conduction gains. The change in air-bone gap (defined as the difference between the means of preoperative and postoperative ABG) was 12.5 dB for PORP patients and 12.9 dB for the TORP patients. There was no statistically significant difference between the TORP and PORP groups. Prosthesis exclusion was observed in one case (0.9%).
CONCLUSIONProstheses using titanium type could give good functional results and stability with low exclusion rate to patients presenting chronic otitis media.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the effect of cochlear implantation with REZ-I straight electrodes on residual hearing of postlingually deafened adults, and to explore the audiologically safety and injury characteristics of cochlear implantation.
METHODSSixteen unilateral REZ-I (22 channels) cochlear implantation recipients from September 2009 to December 2009 were picked out. Their pre-and post-implantation audiometry data including pure-tone audiometry (PTA), auditory steady-state responses (ASSR), auditory brainstem responses (ABR) and distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAE) were retrospectively analyzed, in order to compare the change between pre- and post-implantation residual hearing.
RESULTSAmong the 12 recipients who had some measurable residual hearing before implantation, 5 (41.6%) patients had conserved some measurable hearing but the other 7 (58.4%) recipients had lost all measurable hearing after implantation on the implanted side. The implanted ears had an average PTA threshold drop of 9.5 dB HL and a statistically significant difference between pre- and post-implantation (P < 0.05) PTA thresholds in the frequencies of 250 Hz, 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, 2000 Hz and 4000 Hz. Compared to non-implanted ears, the drop in 500 Hz and 1kHz had a statistically significant difference between pre- and post-implantation PTA thresholds (P < 0.05). The ASSR residual hearing threshold elevation were statistically significant (P < 0.05) between pre- and post-implantation ASSR at 250 Hz and 500 Hz on the implanted side, while the The ASSR residual hearing threshold elevation were statistically significant (P < 0.05) at 500 Hz when compared to non-implanted side. The difference of residual hearing between pre- and post-implantation was not statistically significant for both DPOAE and ABR.
CONCLUSIONThere will be a certain degree of damage to residual hearing of the implanted side following REZ-I cochlear implantation.
