Laser surgery and medicine were considered as one of the topic of mordern medical technologies and has been widely applied in the various medical fields. We have been using CO2 laser in maxillofacial surgery for 506 patients at Khanh Hoa provincial general hospital, since Feb 1994. Result: good: 93.08%, medium: 5.33%. Poor: 1.58%.

2.Investigation on defective children and some measures for intervention in Thua Thien- Hue province

An investigation aimed to evaluate the rate of defective children, classify the defects and implement the operations and rehabilitation for 55162 children with ages of 0-15 in Thõa Thiªn HuÕ province during 1998-2001. The results have shown that the rate of defective children was about 4%. Of which 37.3% received operation with good results, and 28.6% received the rehabilitation in the centers, many children returned to normal life. Some of them equipped the tools, and supported the money for early integrating in the community

3.Children with malformation and some interventions at Thua Thien Hue province: a survey
Journal of Practical Medicine 2002;435(11):85-87
The study was carried out at Thua Thien Hue between 1998 and 2001 and involved 55,162 children between 0 to 15 years old. The children with malformation were examined and identified the malformation by ICD 10. It was found that about 4% of participated children have malformation, in which 37.3% have undergone corrective operation, 28.6% have received rehabilitation in centers or community. Some children have been supported with devices or finance so they can integrate to their community.

4.The use of DPMA for women of reproductive age in Phu Vang District, Thua Thien – Hue Province

From 2000 to 2002 in Phu vang District, Thua Thien – Hue Province, 203 subjects had been given contraceptive infunctions in 99.6% subjects, after 2 years of use, high efficacy is reached. At the age of 25-44, with various occupations, most contraceptive injections are used. Side effects are menorrhagia (40%), but most common with good counsel, the use will be accepted continuing 79.6% clients, 138 cases get the weight increased by 3 kg after 2 years

5.The result of temporary making of heart rhythm emergency in 19 patients at Hai Phong Viet Tiep Hospital

The temporary making of heart rhythm emergency in 19 patients at Hai Phong Viet Tiep Hospital from 4/1997 to 11/2002, 10 males and 9 females, average age was 57.10 ± 21.16. Cause: bloc A-V degree III was 63.16%, in which cardiac infarct was 31.58%, sinus node deficiency syndrome was 31.58%. Clinical symptoms: senseless 57.89%, dizzy 37.84%, Adams-Stokes crisis 21.05%, hypotensive and pressure equal zero was 42.10%, mean ventricle frequency was 40.46 ± 11.97 CK/minute, left heart failure 26.31%. 100% machine use have good result. Immediately after machine use: stable pressure, faint sign and Adams-Stokes crisis disappeard. Mortality rate was 0%

The real situation of infrastructures, equipments, personals and professionals of 34 commune medical stations - Thuy Nguyen district - Hai Phong in 2002. 64.71% houses with a flat roof, 35.29% grade - 3 houses, 12.6% not medicine plant. 38.2% commune medical stations have equipment with capital speciality. 70.5% females, 91.14% staffs, 8.8% contracts. 100% commune medical stations have doctor, 329 hamlets have health of hamlet. Commune medical stations training office of management are 15/34, commune medical stations training office of health care education are 24/34, commune medical stations training office of HIV/AIDS are 15/34, vaccinate achieved 100%

7.Microbiological diagnostic capability of provincial centers for preventive health

The author collected data by interviewing the leader of centers and chef Laboratory Department of provinces/cities about microbiological test ability of Preventive Medical Centers in 2003. The results showed that Laboratory Departments of Preventive Medical Centers were known thoroughly about base techniques such as culture-isolation, ELISA. The modern methods, techniques in immunology and molecular biology had not developed widespread at centers: PCR was 2.3%, erythrocyte agglutination reaction was 16%. The most provinces could take samples, accurate diagnosis by culture-isolation, biochemical reaction to gastrointestinal bacterium, and some respiratory bacterium. Some disease-induced viruses were: Arbo virus (Dengue, Japanese encephalitis B) and hepatitis B virus, HIV by ELISA technique

8.Outline of technical support for Bac Can centre of preventive health

Bac Can Centre of Preventive Health has not established the required departments as set forth in decision numbered 2468/1999/QD-BYT yet. There was a shortage of specialized staff, in terms of the number and quality. Moreover, the center' facilities and equipment have not been as proper as its functions. The centers' capacity has concentrated on the scope of epidemic control, health program management, and information technology application. Technical support will be provided with the mode of hand-on-practice for certain subjects

9.The relationship between juvenile laryngeal papillomas and maternal genital human papillomasvirus (HPV) infection

This study attempted to delineate the relationship between juvenile laryngeal papillomas (JLP) and genital HPV infection in their mothers on 36 pediatric patients JLP with HPV(+) and 14 their mothers with HPV detection from cervical swab at ENT Hospital HoChiMinh city, from March 2000 to March 2004. The results showed that: the rate of genital HPV(+) is 85.7%; the similarity between child and mother genotype is 100% with HPV-11 and 75% with HPV-6. It could have the possibility of HPV transmision from mother to child in recurrent respiratory papillomatosis

10.Using antibiotics in treatment at Pediatric department of Bach Mai hospital

329 medical records of patients in Bach Mai Hospital were examined. The results showed that there were 229 patients using antibiotics in treatment. The antibiotics were used most in treatment of pulmonary infections, then treatment diseases of skin, muscles, bones, joints, kidney, and urinary tract, genital diseases. The 1st generation cephalosporines were most common, then penicillin, chloramphenicol, and 3rd generation cephalosporines were. Nearly 2/3 of patients have used antibiotics within 5-10 days. 1/5 of patients have used antibiotics <5 days and only 8.3% of patients used more than 2 weeks. The use of antibiotics in Pediatric Department is reasonable, choosing antibiotics according to WHO's guideline so that the rate of recovery was high, the cost of treatment was low, there 's not severe complication due to using antibiotics in treatment.
