A 12-year-old girl presented with a 1-week duration of hair loss associated with splitting of the hair ends and whitish dots on the occipital hairs. On microscopic examination, a longitudinal splitting of the hair shaft with reconstitution of the normal hair distal to the fracture, nodular swellings, with the appearance of broomsticks pushed into one another, at the site of whitish swellings, and the flattening and twisting of the hair shaft around the long axis were demonstrated. Minor trauma to injury-prone hair is a common cause of hair shaft defects, however the reports with the combined conditions are insufficient in the literature. We describe a patient with central trichoptilosis associated with localized trichorrhexis nodosa and pili torti.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1982;17(5):983-987
Slipped femoral capital epiphysis is a rare entity in Korea and only three cases have been reported so far1,2,3). One of our cases was a unilateral mild chronic slip in a 14 year old boy with Frohlich body type. It was treated by gentle closed reduction followed by knowles' pin fixation. The other case, a 20 year old female, presented chondrolysis of the left hip. Scrutinization of roentgenograms revealed typical features of an unrecognized slipped femoral capital epiphysis. It was treated by Wagner resurfacing replacement arthroplasty.

3.Re-Elevation of Intraocular Pressure after Peripheral Laser Iridotomy in Patients with Closed Angle.
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 2011;52(6):716-720
PURPOSE: To investigate the long-term effects of maintenance of intraocular pressure (IOP) after peripheral laser iridotomy (PLI) in patients with closed angle. METHODS: The patients who received PLI were assessed and divided into 2 groups. There were 38 patients (41 eyes) with a history or ocular findings of acute angle-closure attack in Group A, and 54 patients (70 eyes) who underwent prophylactic PLI in Group B. IOP over 18 mm Hg was considered to be re-elevated. The number of patients with re-elevated IOP and the duration until the re-elevation was investigated. RESULTS: The amount of IOP elevation immediately after PLI at 6, 24, and 48 months was 0.9, 2.5, and 2.6 mm Hg in Group A, and 0.1, 0.5, 0.5 mm Hg in Group B, respectively. The IOP re-elevation rate was 26.8, 40.0, and 51.4% at 6, 24, and 48 months in Group A and 8.6, 27.2, and 30.4% in Group B with statistically significant difference (p = 0.02, log-rank test). CONCLUSIONS: Close, long-term observation for patients who receive PLI is recommended because there is a high risk of IOP re-elevation within 1 year after PLI. After prophylactic PLI, IOP was maintained under 18 mm Hg for a longer period than after acute angle-closure attack, thus performing preventive PLI should be considered.

Condyloma acuminatum is a common viral disease which is transmitted by sexual intercourse. We experienced a case of condyloma acuminatum occurring in a patient of systemic lupus erythematosus who has been treated with various immunosuppressive agents for 10 years. This condylorna acuminatum was unusual in that it was very rapidly growing, recurrent and reluctant to various treatrnents. We investigated the type of human papillomavirus by Southern blot hybridization and schieved partial improvement by bleomycin intralesional injection together with 5-FU topical application.

5.Localized Trichorrhexis Nodosa Arising From Habitual Rubbing.

Annals of Dermatology 1999;11(4):232-235
Trichorrhexis nodosa(TN) denotes small node-like swelling with a loss of cuticle of the hair shaft through which the hair readily fractures. The basic cause of TN is mechanical or chemical trauma, and a contributing factor is an inherent weakness of the hair shaft. We report a case of localized TN in a 37-year-old male. He had an ovoid hair patch with multiple small white-gray dotted and stubby hairs localized to the right occipital scalp. TN is known to be the commonest of all hair shaft anomalies (Price, 1975). However TN is rarely reported, and there have been only four reports in Korean dermatological literature, to our knowledge, which might be due to underdiagnosis of this disorder. We postulated that diagnostic difficulty lies in the discrepancy between terminology and gross morphological findings.

Annals of Dermatology 2003;15(3):125-127
Nine-month-old female infant was seen with a 7-month history of a nodule on the right temporal scalp, which had gradually increased in size. Stroking of the lesion resulted in urtication and blistering and there were no other cutaneous lesions. The histology showed subepidermal bulla formation and a dense infiltration of mast cells in the papillary and reticular dermis. We present an infant with solitary mastocytoma on the scalp, a rare site.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1996;30(7):646-648
We described a case of well differentiated papillary mesothelioma (WDPM) of the peritoneum in a 68-year-old man because of its rarity. It was incidentally found during operation for renal cell carcinoma. Grossly, the tumor appeared as multiple small granules or nodules on the entire peritoneal surface, including serosa of the intestine, omentum and mesentery. Microscopically, characteristic features are papillary, tubulopapillary or solid architecture lined by single layer of uniform, cytologically bland, cuboidal or polygonal mesothelial cells. The tumor cells were positive for EMA, cytokeratin and vimentin, but negative for CEA on immunohistochemical staining. Ultrastructural study showed characteristic long slender microvilli on the surface and intercellular junctions.
