Dose-response relationship among blood cadmium concentrations, catalase and superoxide dismutase activities were studied with acutely intoxicated rats by cadmium. The Sprague-Dawley male rats to which single dose of 1-32 mg/kg CdCl2 were administered into peritoneal cavity were sacrificed by decapitation at 3-36 hours after the administration. Cadmium concentrations in blood increased significantly with dose of CdCl2 administered and reached peak level at 3 hours later. Catalase activities in rats' tests were not correlated with exposure time elapsed after the administration in rats to which 1-2 mg/kg of CdCl2 were administered, but they showed linear relationship with time in groups to which 4-32 mg/kg of CdCl2 were administered. Cu, Zn-SOD activities in tests of acutely intoxicated rats by cadmium were not altered either by dosage or by time elapsed after the administration. Mn-SOD activities in the tests were also not influenced by dosage of 1-2 mg/kg CdCl2, but remarkably inactivated by dosage of 4-32 mg/kg CdCl2 with time elapsed after the administration. Neither catalase, Cu, Zn-SOD nor Mn-SOD activities of tests were correlated with blood cadmium concentrations in acutely intoxicated rats by cadmium.

Korean Journal of Immunology 1997;19(4):629-638
We investigated the acute effect of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) on the activity of polymorphoneuclear leukocyte (PMN). We selected 6 patients of growth hormone deficient and 5 normal control children. In both groups, 0.15 IU/kg of rhGH was administered subcutaneously. The plasma growth hormone level were measured by radioimmunoassay on 0, 2, and 6 hours after administration of rhGH. To determined PMN activity, peripheral blood PMN were separated by discontinuous density-gradient centrifigation. Isolated PMN were stimulated hy fMLP and PMA and then respiratory burst activity of PMN was determined. The average growth hormone level of growth horrnone deficient and normal group were increased to the level of 41.6+/-23.7 and 96.3+/-46.5 ng/ml respectively, 2 hours after rhGH injection and decreased to the level of 18.5+/-10.6 and 42.2+/-5.5 ng/ml respectively, 6 hours after rhGH injection. Superoxide (O ) production by PMN which was stimulated by PMA was increased from 9.98+/-5.18 to 38.67+/-19.19 (x 10'cpm) after 6 hours of rhGH injection in control group children. It seemed that administration of the rhGH do not made a any effects acutely on PMN activity in growth hormone deficient group. But in a normal control children, extemal administration of rhGH acutely increased activity of PMN.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1995;32(6):971-974
PURPOSE: To determine the necessity of site-specific bone mineral density(BMD) measurement and the difference between the BMD of the two femora using DXA in the evaluation of osteoporosis. MATERIALS & METHODS: Total BMD and regional BMD(Lumbar spine, femoral neck, Ward's area, intertrochanter area) were measured on seventy-eight healthy persons without previons diseases, and the statistical significance analyzed. RESULTS: Total BMD did not reliably reflect the site-specific BMD. There was a high correlation between BMD in opposing femora. Correlation coefficients between the femoral neck, Ward's area, trochanter area were 0. 939, 0.874 and 0.916 respectively. CONCLUSION: We conclude that a measuremnt of site-specific BMD is necessory because the total BMD can not reliably predict the regional BMD. The measurement of BMD in one femur can predict the BMD of the contralateral femur. If there is no history of femoral neck disease, unilateral BMD measurement is recommended for femoral evaluation.

Duck Young CHUNG ; Nung Su YUN
Korean Journal of Urology 1979;20(6):553-561
Author attempted to confirm characteristic mental symptoms of chronic prostatitis. 953 people of normal subjects, 336 patients of depressive neurotics and 183 patients of anxiety neurotics participated in this survey and each of the above groups was compared with 80 patients of chronic prostatitis respectively with intention of collection of anticipated data by means of Zung's Self-Rating Depressive Scale. Each of those groups was compared with calculated mean and standard deviation through t-test. Based on calculated means and standard deviations of each item, chronic prostatitis was compared with normal subjects, depressive neurotics and anxiety neurotics respectively by means of t-test. Each item was arranged in the order of means comparing chronic prostatitis with normal subjects, depressive neurotics and anxiety neurotics respectively. The above results are summarized as follows : 1. The degree of depressive symptom of chronic prostatitis was between that of normal subject and depressive or anxiety neurotics. 2. The psychologic symptom of chronic prostatitis patients appears to he more pronounced than that of normal subjects but physiologic symptom does not appear to be of considerable significance. 3. Depressive degree of chronic prostatitis was lower than depressive neurotics except 2 out of 20 items. 4. Comparing chronic prostatitis with anxiety neurotics, psychologic symptoms appeared to be more pronounced, but physiologic symptoms appeared to be more pronounced in anxiety neurotics. 5. There was no definitive correlation between psychological and physiological symptoms in anxiety neurotics. Chronic prostatitis patients, normal subjects, and depressive neurotics marked high in psychologic symptoms. From the above results, it could be concluded that depression of chronic prostatitis was originally similar to that of depressive neurotics and that the aspect of the quantity is of triviality.

Korean Journal of Urology 1978;19(6):555-563
A clinical observation was made on the injuries of genitourinary tract of the in-patient in the department of urology, Chungnam National University Hospital during the period from March, 1974 to February, 1978. The results are as follows. 1. Of 403 cases hospitalized, 73 cases were injury of genitourinary tract, giving a ratio of 18.1 %. 2. The most prevalent age was from 21 to 40 for 49.3 %. The sex ratio, male to female, was 3.3:1. 3. There was increasing tendency of genitourinary tract injury annually. 4. Traffic accident, fall or straddle and kick or blow were the most frequent causes of the injury in 23.3 % respectively and the next was iatrogenic in 15.1 %. 5. The urethra was involved most frequently in 45.2 % and the next was bladder in 23.3 % the kidney in 19.2 %, the external genitalia in 8.2 % and the ureter in 4.1 %. 6. Among the 17 cases of bladder injuries, 10 cases were vesico-vaginal fistulas. All 9 patients taken repair of fistula, were cured successfully with first attempt. 7. Operation was performed in 5 cases of 14 renal injuries. 8. Three of 7 bladder ruptures were accompanied with pelvic bone fracture. 9. 10 of 33 urethral injuries were accompanied with pelvic bone fracture. Posterior urethral injury was more common in traffic accident with pelvic bone fracture and bulbous urethral injury was more common in straddle injury.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1980;21(4):409-413
Phacofragmentation is one of the method of extracapsular lens extraction using ultrasonic frequency. We have used this method, sometimes inconjunction with anterior vitrectomy since April, 1980 for 10 eyes of 10 cataract or early adult cataract. Our machines for this purpose is one of the Girard type phacofragmetor, Berkeley Model 820 Fragmatome(TM), in conjunction with Berkeley Model 800A Ocutome(R). We have had quite good results after operation and we are sure this method was preferable operation at least in above mentioned cases. This is an our preliminary report and it will be necessary to perform operation to many cataract patients and to determine longterm effects of the operation.

Journal of the Korean Knee Society 1997;9(1):50-54
In shape and dimensions, the tibial plateaus are asymmetric with the larger medial tibial plateau and both have a posterior inclination with respect to the shaft of the tibia. Maximizing tibial coverage is an impotant consideration in total knee arthroplasty to provide stahility and load transfer and to improve long-term survival rate of the implants. Most tihial tray designs are symmetric, but several asymmetric designs are available. We evaluated the proximal tibial resection surface during total knee aithroplasty to delineate the tibial plateaus in korean. After tihial bone cut during 100 TKA procedures, the outline of tibial resection suiface was traced and rotational axis of true tibial component was marked intraoperatively. A line was drawn at the maximal anteroposterior (AP) diameter of lateral tibial condyle with parallel to rotational axis of component, and then a transverse axis was drawn at the midpoint of maximal AP diameter of 1ateral tibial condyle. Anteroposterior 10, 20, 30., 40% and midpoint from the media1 and lateral peripheries were calculated manually. The average AP medial 10, 20, 30 and 40% dimensions were 34.7, 43.8, 48.0 and 43.2mm, respectively. The average AP lateral 10, 20, 30 and 40% dimensions were 30.2, 38.4, 42.0 and 40.9mm, respectively. The ratio of medial/lateral AP dimensions 10, 20, 30 and 40% from periphery were 116.9, 114.7, 114.5 and 106.4%, respectively. From these data, we know the asymmetry of the proxirnal tibia1 plateaus in korean. We hope that rnore data will be ohtained in multicenter studies and it will help us to select tibia1 tray and to design the tibial component in korean. But, more accurate standard measures will he need to minimize an error of measurements.

Journal of Korean Academy of Fundamental Nursing 1999;6(3):583-601
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of self-care of abdominal surgery patients in surgical intensive care unit after offering preoperative nursing information. This study worked out nonequivalant control group post test only design as suspected experimental study. This subjects of the study were 45 patients, 23 in experimental group and 22 in control group. This study was carried at a university hospital in Taegu between January 12, 1999 and March 13, 1999. The experimental group was supplied with preoperative nursing information and the control group received routine care in ICU. The measuring tools of this study were assessment of the self-care role behavior. The data were analyzed by SPSS computer program, x2 test and t-test and ANOVA were utilized for testing the difference between the experimental and the control group. The hypothesis was examined by t-test. The result of this study are summarized as follows ; 1) The hypothesis, "The experimental group will show a higher level of self-care than the control group" was accepted(t= -8.958, p=0.000). 2) We could not find any meaningful relation about general characteristics and disease associated characteristics between the experimental and the control group. 3) The self-care behavior scores according to the general characteristics and disease associated characteristics show significant statistical difference by economics status (p=0.033). 4) The rate of self-care behavior scores of each questionnaire are below average in the questions that request active activity to prevent postoperative complications From the result of this study, the self-care of the experimental group was higher than those of the control group, and the nursing information can be regarded as an effective nursing intervention for preoperative patients.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1983;19(1):156-160
Fourtyone patients fo gallbladder and bile duct diseases were studied clinically and sonographically.Tweentynine (Seventyone percent) patients were distributed between age fourty to fiftynine and male to femaleratio was 1:1.4. The order of frequency of biliary tract disease was cholelithiasis, acalculous cholecystitis, CBDstone and CBD cancer. Sonographic findings of cholelithiasis were strong echo with posterior shadowing, faintinternal echoes without shadowing, gallbladder wall thickneing and anechoicity of the gallbladder wall. Instead ofsmall proportion of gallbladder distension and wall anechoicity, faint internal echoes without shadowing were seenin ten of nineteen cases of cholelithiasis. On choledocholithiasis, meniscus sign at the junction of the stone andgallbladder wall was identified in most cases and was helpful to differentiation stone from malignancy. The degreeof CBD dilatation was more severe in malignancy than in CBD stones and ascaris in CBD. Sonographic examination wasuseful in detection of gallbladder and bilicary tree pathology and the cause of biliary tract obstruction could beidentified.
