OBJECTIVETo study the present situations of lung cancer in Wuhan and to explore the relationship between the potential years of life lost of lung cancer and air pollution, especially vehicle emissions.
METHODSData gathered between 1986 and 1995 in Wuhan city, including air pollution and tobacco production and data on lung cancer between 1991 and 2000 were collected extensively. Simple Correlation and Grey Relational Analysis were used to analyze the relationship of them.
RESULTSThere was a ascending tendency in variance of oxides of nitrogen (NOx). The degree of grey incidence (DGI) between the concentration of air pollutants and the male's or female's potential years of life lost of lung cancer (PYLL) were calculated respectively. In males, the values of DGI were 0.6702, 0.7071, 0.6199 on sulfur dioxide (SO2), NOx, total suspensions (TSP) respectively. In females, the values of DGI were 0.6188, 0.8555, 0.5842 according to the same order as listed above. Significant positive correlation was found between the concentration of NOx and with lung cancer in both males and females by spearman correlation test (rmale = 0.63523, P = 0.0484; rfemale = 0.76396, P = 0.0101).
CONCLUSIONWith the fast growing speed of the quantity of vehicles, pollution of vehicle emission-caused air pollution posed an important risk factor for lung cancer, despite the fact that tobacco smoking still played the leading role.

Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics of human metapneumovirus (hMPV) infection in children with acute lower respiratory tract infection (ALRTI) in Changsha area,China. Methods A total of 2613 nasopharyngeal aspirate (NPA) specimens were collected from hospitalized children with ARTIs between September 2007 and February 2011 ( a period of 3.5 years)in Changsha area,Hunan Province,China.Respiratory specimens were screened for hMPV M gene by reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).All RT-PCR positive amplification products were confirmed by sequencing or analyzed and compared with those in GenBank known hMPV reference strain. Results hMPV was detected in 135 (5.2%) out of the 2613 children. The detected rate was significantly different between male and female (x2 =8.007,P =0.003 ).The majority of the hMPV-positive patients ( 63.2% ) were 0-1 year old infants. The majority of hMPV-positive patients were detected during spring season.Seasonal distribution showed that subtype A2b circulated predominantly in winter and spring, subtype B2 circulated predominantly in summer and spring. The most common genotype in 135 hMPV-positive patients were A and B in human subjects in Changsha. The predominant genotype of hMPV changed over the 3.5 year study period from genotype A2b to combined A2b and B2,and to B2.The 66 ( 48.9% ) out of the 135 hMPV-positive patients were found to be co-infected with other respiratory viruses, and human bocavirus (HBoV) was the most common additional respiratory virus. Conclusion These data suggest that some cases of acute lower respiratory infection in young children in Changsha area are related to hMPV and the majority of children infected with hMPV were less than 1 years old,the detected rate of boys was higher than that of girls. It circulated predominantly in spring. The subtype A2b genetic lineage and the subtype B1 genetic lineage of hMPV were revealed alternately in human subjects in Changsha area and the hMPV exhibited high co-infection rate with other respiratory viruses.

OBJECTIVETo develop the national neglect norms for urban primary school students in China.
METHODSAccording to multi-stage stratified cluster sampling principle, 24 cities of 13 provinces (municipalities) in China were selected during December 1 to 31, 2008. A total of 1491 students in grade 1 - 3 and 2236 students in grade 4 - 6 were selected. Questionnaire was designed by authors and the final norms were determined through several statistical analysis methods, such as item analysis method, factor analysis method, reliability analysis method. The reliability analysis and validity analysis were used to test the stability and reliability of the norms. The evaluation criteria of the scale was determined by the percentile method, then the initial development of the norm was completed.
RESULTSThe two questionnaires of grade 1 - 3 and grade 4 - 6 students consisted of 55 and 57 items, respectively, whose item loadings were ranged from 0.301 to 0.687 and 0.321 to 0.730, which met the statistical requirements. For grade 1 - 3 students, the scale's total Cronbach α coefficients was 0.914, the total split-half reliability coefficients was 0.896, the Cronbach α coefficients of four level was above 0.737 except medical and social neglect, split-half reliability was ranged from 0.461 to 0.757; for grade 4-6 students, the scale's total Cronbach α coefficients was 0.916, split-half reliability was 0.883, except social neglect, the Cronbach α coefficients of other level was ranged 0.457 to 0.856, split-half reliability was ranged from 0.500 to 0.798. The total neglect cut-off score of the two scales grade 1-3 and 4-6 were 125 and 155, respectively.
CONCLUSIONThe structure of two norms was reasonable. The scales have good stability and reliability.
