Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2007;24(6):1319-1324
This is a report on the research of HA/Ti6Al4V composite implants that were successfully fabricated by radio frequency magnetron sputtering (RF-MS) technique. The mechanism and bioactivity of these implants immersed in simulated body fluid (SBF) were investigated. Changes in surface morphology, interfacial bond state, crystal structure and phase composition of HA coating before and after immersing in SBF were characterized by Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Results indicate that a new substance on the surface of HA implant coatings produces accompanying with the dissolution of coatings. The substance is bone-like apatite containing CO3(2-) and lacking of Ca2+. Its ratio of n(Ca)/n(P) is about 1.56. This substance has very small grain size and similarly amorphous structure. Its structure and composition are similar to those of natural bone. Thus, it has good biocompatibility and bioactivity.

Objective To evaluate the effects of Chuanglingye decoction on angiogenesis and wound healing. Methods With a series of dosages of Chuanglingye decoction, their optimal effects of angiogenesis were searched for through the chicken embryo allantois membrane model(CAM). The vascular endothelial cell proliferation experiment (MTT) and the migration assay were used for the detection of effects. The gauze loading with Chuanglingye decoction of 0.2 ml as the experimental group and with saline of 0.2ml as the control group were applied on the total skin mechanical round wound of 1.5cm diameter and changed every other day. The sizes of area were detected on the day of 0,3,7,14 and 28 as well as the scores of inflammatory response, contains of TNF-αand Il-6 were detected on the day of 3 and 7. Results The CAM experiments showed that the angiogenic effects of 0.2 ml and 0.3 ml dosage of the Chuanglingye group were significantly lower than those of the control group(P<0.05). The 0.2 ml dosage of Chuanglingye decoction was chosen for the further experiment. The HUVEC proliferation rate of the experimental group decreased 21%, as compared with the results of control group. The cell migration movement of 12 hours, 24 hours in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group. For theanimal experiments, the area sizes of the wound were similar in the experimental and control group without any significant differences. The scores of inflammatory response and contains of TNF-α(768±107)ng/L,(380±47)ng/L and Il-6(664±133)ng/L,(363±43)ng/L in the experimental group were significant decreased than those of the control group on the day of 3(958± 140)ng/L,(2215±314)ng/Land 7(512±62)ng/L,(1562±174)ng/L. Conclusion It showed that Chuanglingye decoction had negative effects on vascular endothelial cell migration and proliferation and thus inhibiting angiogenesis. These effects did not infer the process of the wound healing due to its ameliorating the inflammatory response which may be a help to wound healing.

Objective To investigate the correlation between muscle strength level and bone mineral density and bone metabolism indexes in postmenopausal women in Beijing. Methods Postmenopausal women who were investi-gated by on-site questionnaires and followed by bone mineral density examination in Beijing from September 2017 to May 2018 were recruited as study subjects. They were divided into early menopausal group, middle menopausal group, late menopausal group, and twilight menopausal group according to the years of menopause.Changes in grip strength,5 times sit-to-stand test(FTSST)with bone mineral density(BMD)and bone metabolism indexes were observed in the four groups and their correlations were analyzed. Results A total of 815 cases of postmenopausal women were included. At different menopausal stages, muscle strength was all found to decrease with the increase of menopausal years(P<0.05),there was non-significance of different bone metabolism indexes among the four groups(P>0.05);Femoral neck and lumbar spine BMD decreased with the increase of menopausal years(P<0.05).Maximum grip strength was positively correlated with both femoral neck and lumbar spine BMD(R=0.158,P<0.05;R=0.130,P<0.05).There was no correlation between muscle strength and bone metabo-lism indexes(P<0.05).Conclusions Different bone metabolism indexes are not associated with muscle strength in menopausal women.Maximum grip strength is positively correlated with bone mineral density, which can be used as an auxiliary screening tool for osteoporosis(OP)in women. The FTSST suggests that the lower limb muscle strength of menopausal women decreases with age, which can be used as one of the indicators for predicting the risk of falls in menopausal women.

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2025;29(5):1021-1025
BACKGROUND:Studies have demonstrated that postmenopausal osteoporosis is related to female reproductive characteristics and exercise diets, but few studies have demonstrated whether female reproductive characteristics and exercise diets have an effect on vitamin D in postmenopausal women. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the relationship of vitamin D levels with female reproductive characteristics and exercise diets and their influencing factors in postmenopausal women in Beijing. METHODS:Totally 727 postmenopausal women with an age range of 46-75 years old who received on-site questionnaires in 17 communities of Beijing from September 2017 to May 2018 were selected as the study subjects, and the questionnaires included the subjects'basic information and history of menstruation, menopause, pregnancy, and exercise diet.An electrochemiluminescence immunoassay analyzer and its auxiliary reagents were used to determine 25-(OH)D levels.Bone mineral density and T values of the lumbar spine(L1-L4,whole)and both hips(femoral neck, whole)were determined using a dual-energy X-ray bone mineral density detector. The correlation of vitamin D with reproductive characteristics and exercise diet was observed,as well as the influencing factors of vitamin D were analyzed. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:There were 136 cases(18.7%)in the vitamin D normal group,389 cases(53.5%)in the vitamin D insufficient group, and 202 cases(27.8%)in the vitamin D deficient group. The mean vitamin D level was(15.60±5.85)ng/mL.With the increase of vitamin D level, the bone mineral density value and T value of different parts of the body also increased.Vitamin D level was positively correlated with age at menarche, days of menstrual duration, stage of menopause, activity, diet type, and dietary preference(P<0.05);was negatively correlated with menstrual cycle, age at menopause, and number of childbearing(P<0.05);and had no correlation with age at first conception and number of pregnancies(P>0.05).The results of multifactorial ordered Logistic regression analyses showed that there was a positive correlation between the frequency of drinking dairy products and vitamin D level(P<0.05),and dairy products were a protective factor for vitamin D level. To conclude, vitamin D levels are generally insufficient and bone mineral density values are generally low in postmenopausal women in Beijing.Vitamin D levels are correlated with some reproductive characteristics and exercise diets, and drinking dairy products is a protective factor. Therefore,it is possible to intervene in the dietary situation of postmenopausal women by means of health education about osteoporosis and by increasing vitamin D levels in order to increase bone density values and reduce the prevalence of osteoporosis in the postmenopausal period.

Objective:To investigate the application of self-designed wound measuring grid in the measurement of wound and the design of perforator flap. Methods:From February 2018 to February 2020, 31 cases of soft tissue defects of limbs were repaired by free transfer of perforator flap. During the operation, the self-designed membrane with measurement grid was used to measure the wound surface. The flaps were designed and harvested according to the accurate measurement of the wound. The flaps were reviewed at hospital clinic during follow-up.Results:All patients entered 3-15 months of follow-up with an average of 8 months. All 31 flaps survived, of which 2 flaps encountered vascular crisis and were rescued after surgical exploration. There was no infection of flaps and all flaps had stage I healing. The flaps were satisfactory in appearance with the sensation recovery to S 2 in 21 cases and S 3 in 10 cases. Only linear scars were left on the donor sites. Conclusion:The membrane with a measurement grid can accurately measure a wound, and help the design of the flap according to the measured size and profile of the wound. It can reduce the operation time and the risk as well as to improve the operation efficiency. The clinical application is satisfactory. Large scale and multi-centre studies are required to further prove the benefit of the measurement grid.

Objective:To investigate the surgical method and clinical effect in the repair of thumb tip defect with radial thenar fasciocutaneous flap. Methods:From March, 2016 to January, 2019, 15 patients with thumb tip defect were treated by radial thenar fasciocutaneous flap. There were 6 defects in left thumb and 9 in right thumb. All the thumbtip defects had the exposure of digital bone, and some had defects of digital bone itself. The size of defects ranged from 1.0 cm×2.0 cm to 1.5 cm×3.0 cm, and the size of the flaps ranged from 1.2 cm×2.5 cm to 1.8 cm×4.0 cm. All of the donor sites were directly closed. The patients entered follow-up by outpatient visit, telephone calls or WeChat reviews to evaluate the quality of the flaps and the clinical effects of the surgery. Results:All flaps survived with good quality. All the donor sites achieved primary healing. The follow-ups lasted for 6 to 18 months with an average of 10.5 months. At the final follow-up review, the appearance of flaps was satisfactory in natural colour, flexible and wear-resistant. There were various degrees of sensation recovery of the flaps, with TPD from 6 mm to 12 mm. The sensation around the donor site was close to normal. Function of the thumbs was evaluated according to the total active movement (TAM) evaluation system. Twelve thumbs were graded excellent and 3 in good. Conclusion:The radial thenar fasciocutaneous flap achieved satisfactory clinical effect in the repair of thumb tip defect. The texture of the flaps is close to the recipient site and the damage to the donor site is minimal.
