OBJECTIVE To explore the value of spiral CT in detecting narrow level of obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS) through investigating measured parameters of upper airway. METHODS The upper airway levels from the roof of nasopharynx to the inferior border of cricoid cartilage were scanned with spiral CT in 127 OSAHS patients and 52 controls. The coronal and sagittal diameter and the cross sectional areas of palate, uvula, tongue, epiglottis level were measured using image handling workstation. The measured values of each level were divided by the measured values of the cricoid cartilage level, and get relative values. The relative values of the OSAHS patients and controls were compared. RESULTS The relative values of posterior soft palate and uvula region, lingual region and epiglottis regions were statistically different. The difference also existed between genders. The relative values of 46 controls and 17 OSAHS patients were in the normal range. Among 127 OSAHS,the relative values of 110 cases with OSAHS(86.6%) were below the normal range in every region, while in control group, the relative values were found below the normal range in only 6 persons (11.2%).CONCLUSION The relative values of each regions is useful to judge the narrow level of upper airway in OSAHS patients.

OBJECTIVE To explore a more effective method of detecting sleep respiratory events in children. METHODS Thirty-eight children were tested with HypnoPTT and 31 with polysomnography (control). The test parameters and operative methods were compared. RESULTS In addition to the parameters comm.on to both HypnoPTT and polysomnography, inspiratory flow limitation and spontaneous microarousal can be measured using HypnoPTT and fewer electrodes were needed. CONCLUSION HypnoPTT is a convenient method characterized by less sleep disturbance and credible results, rendering it is especially suitable for pediatric cases. Pulse transit time is a useful parameter for diagnosing the sleep respiratory disease.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the clinic feature and therapeutic principles and to improve curative effect of mucoepidemoid carcinoma originated in nasal cavity and nasal sinuses. METHODS A restrospective review of clinic features ,therapeutic methods and consequences was undertaken in thirty cases with nasal cavity and nasal sinuse mucoepidemoid carcinoma and treated at the 81st hospital of CPLA from 1990 to 2001. RESULTS Twenty patients received surgery、radiotherapy and chemotherapy, of which sixteen survived in five to ten years follow-up . Six patients received surgery and radiotherapy, of which four survived in five years follow-up. Only one out of two patients who received radiotherapy and chemotherapy respectively survived in five years follow-up. The total five years survival rate was 73 %(22/30). CONCLUSION CT or MRI scan may be helpful to evaluate the location and scale of mucoepidemoid carcinoma.Final diagnosis rely on histopathology examination. Early radical resection combined with radiotherapy and chemotherapy pre- or postoperatively could improve five-year-survival rate and reduce recurrence rate.

Objective Nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (Nampt) is a new therapeutic target for ischemic stroke. The aim of this study was to investigate protective effect of liver-derived Nampt on ischemic stroke. Methods Liver-specific Nampt knockout mice were generated using the Cre/loxP system. NamptloxP/loxP mice were crossed with liver-specific Cre recombinase expression mice (Alb-Cre), and the progeny genotypes were identified by polymerase chain reaction. Body weight of knockout mice and control mice were measured. Nampt in liver and brain was determined by Western blot assay. Middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO), a classical ischemic stroke model, was generated in liver-specific Nampt knockout mice and control mice by electrocoagulation. After 24 h of modeling, neurological deficit scores of each group were evaluated and TTC staining was performed to determine the cerebral infarction volume. The level of plasma Nampt in each group was determined by ELISA. Results Liver-specific Nampt knockout mice with the genotype of NamptloxP/loxPAlb-Cre were successfully constructed. The hepatic Nampt expression in knockout mice was significantly decreased by 74.2% compared to control mice, while there was no significant difference in the expression of brain Nampt protein between the knockout group and the control group. Specific knockout of liver Nampt gene expression had no effect on the body weight of mice. Under normal physiological conditions, there was no significant difference in plasma Nampt levels between liver-specific Nampt knockout mice and control mice of the same gender. 24 h after MCAO modeling, there were no significant differences in neurological deficit scores, cerebral infarct volume and plasma Nampt concentration between liver-specific Nampt knockout group and control group. Conclusion Liver-specific Nampt knockout mice are successfully constructed. Liver-derived Nampt has no significant protective effects on ischemic stroke.

Objective: To observe the gadolinium imaging findings of inner ear in patients with sudden deafness and to analyze its clinical features. Methods: From November 2017 to July 2020, 21 patients with sudden deafness in the People's Hospital of Dongsheng District, Ordos City were selected as the research objects, including 14 males and 7 females, aged 36-76 years, with a median age of 50 years. The course of disease was 1-19 days, with an average of 5.5 days. The patients received audiology tests, laboratory examination, and intravenous gadolinium angiography, each of whom was scanned twice by 3D-FLAIR sequence: once before intravenous gadolinium injection, and once again 4.5-6.0 h after intravenous gadolinium injection. The following corresponding clinical treatment was given. The imaging manifestations and clinical features were observed. Results: Among 21 cases of sudden deafness in acute stage, the signal intensity of 11 cases was significantly higher than that of the contralateral ear, and 2 cases had vestibular labyrinthine hydrops. In laboratory examination, only 2 cases of total deafness had increased WBC count and faster erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and the rest had no abnormality. The hearing types of 21 patients with sudden deafness were: total deafness in 8 cases, flat decline in 10 cases, low frequency decline in 1 case, high frequency decline in 2 cases. The total effective rate was 57% (12/21). The hearing types of 11 patients with abnormal gadolinium angiography were total deafness in 5 cases, flat decline in 5 cases and high frequency decline in 1 case. The total effective rate was 64% (7/11). Conclusion: Gadolinium angiography is abnormal in some patients with sudden deafness, and the permeability of blood labyrinth barrier may be increased, which is worthy of further study.

Journal of Pharmaceutical Practice 2021;39(2):134-137
Objective To study the effect of nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) on the mortality of the lipopoly-saccharide (LPS)-induced endotoxic shock mouse model. Methods 10-week-old C57BL/6J male mice were randomly divided into groups, and were injected intraperitoneally (i.p.) with LPS (10 mg/kg) to induce endotoxic shock models. NMN was i.p. injected in three ways: (1) 0.5 h after modeling, doses of 10, 30, 100 and 300 mg/kg; (2) 0.5 h before modeling, doses of 30, 100, 300 and 600 mg/kg; or (3) 0.5 and 12 h after modeling, dose of 300 mg/kg each time. The death times of each group were recorded, and the survival curves were drawn. Results Compared with the solvent control group, NMN at different doses given 0.5 h after or before modeling didn’t improve the survival rate or delay the death time of endotoxic shock mice; But when given at 0.5 and 12 h 300 mg/kg after modeling, NMN accelerated the death of mice and increased the mortality of mice. NMN products by two manufacturers showed similar effects. Conclusion NMN has no therapeutic effect on LPS-induced endotoxic shock, and repeated administration of NMN after endotoxic shock will increase the mortality.
