1.A biomechanical Comparison of Different Fixation Techniques on Intercondylar Eminence Fractures of Tibia.

Methods of internal fixation for displaced intercondylar eminence fractures of tibia are percutaneous pinning, pull-out knot with wire or nylon and screw fixation. We tried experimental tensile test on four different fixation methods with 60 fresh pig knees. The results were as follows. 1. In our experimental study, the maximum tensile strength(M.T.S.) was recorded average 73.49N in the group of percutaneous pinning, 133.01N in Ethilon used group, 198.01N in wire used group and 275.05N in screw fixed group. 2. The group of percutaneous pinning with K-wires showed the lowest value of M.T.S., therefore, this method of fixation must be discarded. 3. The M.T.S of pull-out knot tie was about twice as high as that of percutaneous pinning. But the method of knotting should be improved because of the failure around the knot. 4. The group of screw fixation showed the highest value of M.T.S., but this method of fixation has some problems, like as arthrotomy or difficulty of removal of hardware.

2.Sqamous Cell Carcinoma Arising from Hidradenitis Suppurativa.

Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic inflammatory disease that originate in the apocrine glands of the skin, It results in fibrosis, sinus track formation, and scarring. Rarely it is complicated by squamous cell carcinoma arisihg from hidradenitis suppurativa were reported in the literature. We present a patient who suffered over 20 years from persistent, extensive hidradenitis suppurativa and who developed squamous cell carcinoma at the perianal area. During the 18 month follow-up period, no evidence of recurrence nor metastasis was found.

3.Augmentation Rhinoplasty with Expanded Polytetrafluoroethylene: A Ten-Year Experience for Safety

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES:
Expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) is an alloplastic implant widely used in augmentation rhinoplasty. However, ePTFE implant is known to be vulnerable to postoperative infection and inflammation. We aimed to verify the safety of the material by analyzing the results of augmentation rhinoplasty using ePTFE carried out in a single institution for 10 years.SUBJECTS AND METHOD: From April 2009 to June 2018, 238 patients who underwent augmentation rhinoplasty with ePTFE were included in the study. There were 187 male patients and 51 female patients. Patients' medical records, preoperative and postoperative photographs were analyzed, and postoperative implant migration, inflammation, and infection were investigated.
RESULTS:
Of the 238 patients, 10 underwent revision surgery, and 87 (36.6%) underwent concomitant osteotomy for the correction of the deviated nose. Of the 5 patients (2.1%) who showed postoperative implant migration, 4 patients belonged to the osteotomy patients group while 1 patient belonged to the no-osteotomy group. There was more frequent implant migration in patients who underwent osteotomy; however, there was no statistically significant difference (p=0.06). In all of the five patients, the degree of implant migration was minimal, therefore no patient required revision surgery. No inflammatory reaction or infection was found after surgery.
CONCLUSION
ePTFE is a safe material for augmentation rhinoplasty and is not susceptible to infection after surgery if used through appropriate surgical procedures
4.Four Cases of Taenia saginata Infection with an Analysis of COX1 Gene.

Human taeniases had been not uncommon in the Republic of Korea (=Korea) until the 1980s. The prevalence decreased and a national survey in 2004 revealed no Taenia egg positive cases. However, a subsequent national survey in 2012 showed 0.04% (10 cases) prevalence of Taenia spp. eggs suggesting its resurgence in Korea. We recently encountered 4 cases of Taenia saginata infection who had symptoms of taeniasis that included discharge of proglottids. We obtained several proglottids from each case. Because the morphological features of T. saginata are almost indistinguishable from those of Taenia asiatica, molecular analyses using the PCR-RFLP and DNA sequencing of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) were performed to identify the species. The PCR-RFLP patterns of all of the 4 specimens were consistent with T. saginata, and the cox1 gene sequence showed 99.8-100% identity with that of T. saginata reported previously from Korea, Japan, China, and Cambodia. All of the 4 patients had the history of travel abroad but its relation with contracting taeniasis was unclear. Our findings may suggest resurgence of T. saginata infection among people in Korea.
