AIM:To explore the distance from the labrale superius and inferius of the soft tissue profile in early permanent dentition with normal occlusion to the esthetic line (E line) and the proportion among each section of E plane. METHODS: Thirty Han teenagers with normal occlusion including 15 males and 15 females with the average age of 11.5 years were selected from January 2000 to December 2005. They were examined cephalometrially to measure the distance between labrale superius (Ls) and E, labrale inferius (Li) and E, and the mean values and standard deviation of prenasale (Prn)-Ls/distance between Prn and pogonion (Pg') of soft tissue, Ls-Li/distance between Prn and Pg' and Li-Pg'/distance between Prn and Pg'. RESULTS: ①Distance of Ls-E and Li-E: Ls-E and Li-E of normal occlusion were (0.083 3?0.920 8) mm and (0.621 7?1.124 6) mm. ②Proportion of each segment to the distance of Prn and Pg': Prn-Ls/Prn-Pg', Ls-Li/Prn-Pg' and Li-Pg'/Prn-Pg' were 0.413 8?0.022 3, 0.200 9?0.023 1, 0.385 7?0.022 8, respectively. CONCLUSION: E plane analysis is a convenient and effective method in the diagnosis of soft tissue in clinic. The Ls and Li are exactly on the E plane in normal occlusion and the ratio of three sections is 2∶1∶2.

Objective:To evaluate the clinical features and follow-up effect of treatment for retinal capillary hemangioma (RCH) of myopic disc. Methods:Retrospective case series studies. A total of 14 patients (15 eyes) diagnosed with juxtapapillary RCH (JRCH) at Peking Union Medical College Hospital and followed up for more than 12 months from January 2007 to December 2019 were included. Among these patients, there were 7 males (7 eyes) and 7 females (8 eyes) with the average age of 29.8±12.7 years. There were 6 isolated JRCH cases, all of which were monocular patients, including 1 case with a single peripheral RCH; 8 cases with von Hippel-Lindau disease, including 5 cases of binocular RCH. Out of 15 eyes, 6 eyes were merged with peripheral RCH. Three eyes were simply observed, and 12 eyes were treated with photodynamic therapy (PDT) alone or PDT combined with other treatments. The average follow-up time was 55.2 months. Its clinical characteristics and long-term treatment effects were analyzed. Results:At the first visit, among the 15 eyes, 3 eyes had visual acuity <0.1, 5 eyes were 0.1-0.4, and 7 eyes were> 0.5. The endogenous and fixed exogenous JRCH were 12 (80%, 12/15) and 3 (20%, 3/15) eyes, respectively. The size of the tumor was 1/4 to 4 optic disc diameters (DD); the combined macular edema, epiretinal membrane, and macular hole were 11, 5, and 1 eyes, respectively. There were 3 eyes with tumor diameter less than 1 DD. The visual acuity at the first diagnosis was 0.6-1.0, and no treatment was given. The follow-up time was 12 months in 2 eyes and 120 months in 1 eye. At the last follow-up, his vision remained stable and the tumor did not enlarge. Six eyes with tumor diameter ranging from 1.0 to 2.5 DD, visual acuity was 0.06 to 0.6 at first diagnosis, accompanied by retinal exudation. 5 eyes were treated with PDT alone, and 1 eye was treated with PDT combined with anti-vascular endothelial growth factor drugs. The follow-up time was 12 to 84 months. At the last follow-up, the visual acuity improved or stabilized in 5 eyes and decreased in 1 eye. There were 6 eyes with peripheral RCH, including 4 eyes with retinal detachment, 2 eyes with epiretinal membrane, and 1 eye with vitreous hemorrhage. The visual acuity at the first visit was 0.02-0.6. All patients were treated with PDT combined with transpupillary thermotherapy, extrascleral drainage, and vitrectomy. The follow-up time was 12 to 132 months. At the last follow-up, all eyesight decreased. Conclusions:Visual decrease cause by JRCH often occurs at young adults. Bilateral JRCH are more common in patients with von Hippel-Lindau's disease. The tumor can cause retinal exudation, macular edema, epiretinal membrane and macular hole, resulting in gradual vision loss. PDT and/or combined anti-vascular endothelial growth factor drugs for medium sized JRCH with retinal exudation can maintain long-term vision stability. Patients with large JRCH or severe complications such as retinal detachment tend to have poor prognosis.

Objective To study the expressions of the tumor suppressor gene TSH receptor( TSHR),P16, and RAS in papillary thyroid carcinoma ( PTC ) , and the correlation between the occurrence of tumor and the aberrant promoter hypermethylation of three tumor suppressor genes. Methods RT-PCR was used to detect the mRNA expression of three tumor suppressor genes in tissues of 50 cases of PTC ,20 cases of nodular goiter, and 12 cases of thyroid adenoma. The promoter methylation status of three tumor suppressor genes was examined by methylation-specific PCR technique( MSP). Gene sequencing was used to test if the hypermethylation existed in the promoter of three tumor suppressor genes. Results In 68.0% (34/50) TSHR gene, 54.0% (27/50) P16 gene, and 60.0% ( 30/50 ) RAS gene in PTCs, hypermethylation in promoter region was detected, the respective results 21.9% (7/32) , 15. 6% (5/32) ,and 31. 3% (10/32) were found in control tissues. The rates of the three genes with promoter hypermethylation in PTC were significantly higher than those in control tissues ( all P<0. 05). The mRNA expressions of TSHR,P16,and RAS were significantly lower in PTC than those in control tissues (0. 41 ± 0.11 vs 0.63±0. 08,0. 51±0. 17 vs 0. 72±0. 22,0. 56±0. 10 vs 0. 67±0. 16, all P<0. 05). The sequencing confirmed that there was CC to TC transmission in the promoters of three tumor suppressor genes. Conclusions The methylation of three tumor suppressor genes in promoter region is a common molecule event and may be involved in the genesis and development of human PTC.

Objective To investigate the effects of baicalin on serum progesterone and related hormones in female normal and cerebral ischemia rats; To explore whether baicalin plays a role in cerebral protection of neurological functions by regulating progesterone levels. Methods With vaginal smear method, the adult estrus female SD rats were selected and divided into normal group, baicalin normal group, and molding groups. The left side of the middle cerebral artery of rats in the molding groups was blocked to establish the permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion (pMCAO). After modeling, the rats were randomly divided into model group, baicalin treatment group, progesterone treatment group and progesterone inhibitor group. The baicalin normal group and baicalin treatment group were given intraperitoneal injection of baicalin solution; the normal group and model group were given normal saline of the same quantity; progesterone treatment group was given intramuscular injection of progesterone; progesterone inhibitor group was given intraperitoneal injection of baicalin solution and intragastric administration of mifepristone solution. The neurological function deficit scores were evaluated and rat forelimb holding power was detected by Grip Strength Meter respectively at different time points. Serum was taken from the rats and the progesterone and related hormones levels in the serum of every group were measured by ELISA. Results Compared with normal group, neurological functions of rats in molding groups were damaged, and neural functional behavior scores of different time points were the most strongly increased (P<0.001), and rat forelimb holding power was the most strongly reduced (P<0.001). 5 days after treating, baicalin showed the trend of improvement of neurological functions (P>0.05) and more significant improvement of the forelimb holding power (P<0.01); 10 days after modeling, baicalin treatment group significantly increased neural functional behavior scorce (P<0.001) and the most significantly improved the forelimb holding power (P<0.001). Compared with baicalin treatment group, the progesterone inhibitor group had a significant inhibitory effect on neural functional recovery (P<0.05) 10 days after modeling, and the group also had a significant inhibitory effect on the recovery of holding power (P<0.05) 5 days and 10 days after treating. At the same time, compared with the model group, progesterone level in baicalin treatment group increased significantly (P<0.05), and FSH and LH decreased (P>0.05).Conclusion After applying mifepristone to block progesterone, baicalin neurologic protection is significantly inhibited. The results demonstrated that baicalin may play a role in cerebral protection via up-regulating serum progesterone level.
