Objective:To investigate the effect of neonatal dog peripheral mononuclear cells on left ventricular function, haemodynamic, and infarcted size when transplanted into infarcted myocardium. Methods: Mononuclear cells from neonatal dogs were isolated and purified. The descending coronary arteries of adult dogs were ligated and the cells were injected into the border zone of the infarcted region. The control group was injected with non serum culture medium. Left ventricular pressure, d p /d t max , and power of LV were measured during and 30 d after operation. Echocardiogram(HP Sonos 5500, 2.5 MHz) were performed promptly and 30 d after operation to determine the changes of left ventricular function. Infarcted size, capillary density and cardiac muscle width were measured 30 d after operation. Results: LV pressure decreased in both groups, there were no marked differences between the 2 groups. LV pressure and d p /d t max of transplant group were greater than those of control group 30 d after operation. The systolic and diastolic functions were preserved after mononuclear cell transplantation. Infarcted sizes were lower and capillary density was greater in transplant group than those of control group. Conclusion: Transplantation of neonatal dog peripheral mononuclear cells into the infarcted regions can increase the capillary density and decrease infarcted size, preserving left ventricular function.

BACKGROUND:The hip is a complicated structure and irregular in shape. It is hard to measure stress distribution and transmission. OBJECTIVE:To establish a three-dimensional finite element model of the hip joint and upper femur, and analyze the stress distribution and transmission characteristics of the acetabulum region under different loads, and explore mechanics mechanism of hip fracture based on CT data. METHODS:The three-dimensional finite element hip and femur model were reconstructed in Mimics 14.0 based on the CT data of a healthy adult man. After dividing mesh, assigning material and transforming into finite element model, the stress distributions of anterior wal , the top, and the posterior wal of the acetabulum, the stress of acetabulum areas and displacement of acetabular unit were calculated with finite element software Ansys 13.0 software under 300, 600, 900 and 1 200 N. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1) A three-dimensional finite element model of the hip and the femur was successful y established, consisting of 284 183 nodes and 160 665 units. (2) The characteristics of the stress distribution of acetabulum region:the maximal stress was concentrated on the posterosuperior part of acetabular crest, fol owed by the posterior wal and the anterior wal in order in upright position under different loads. The stress transmitted by four ways:from acetabular crest to ilium, along linea terminalis of pelvis to sacroiliac joint, in the acetabular sockets, and along the pubic ramus. The stress and the propagation distance were increasing as the loads increased. Acetabular element stress variable was increased. (3) Above results indicated that three-dimensional finite element model of the human hip joint established by Mimics 14.0 based on CT data matches the anatomical structure in a great degree, could be used in the biomechanics analysis under different loads, and has a guiding significance for design of artificial hip prosthesis.
3.Effect of Safflor yellow against neonatal hypoxia on expression of NOSs mRNA.
Chinese Journal of Applied Physiology 2004;20(4):371-374
AIMTo investigate the effect of Safflor yellow on the gene expression of neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) in neonatal asphyxia.
METHODS30 minutes after SY 7 g/kg weight intraperitoneally was administered on the neonatal rats. After asphyxia for 40 minutes, the neonatal rats were reoxygenated for 48 h, and the nitric oxide synthases (NOSs) mRNA expression was assessed by semi-quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction.
RESULTSNeuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) were up in hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) 48 h group, while both of them were down significantly in SY group, but no change was observed on endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS).
CONCLUSIONThe protective of SY from brain damage induced by neonatal asphyxia might be associated with expression of NOSs mRNA.

OBJECTIVETo observe the intervention effect of acupuncture on early onset of selec- tive serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) in treating depressive disorder, and to study its effect on ser- um 5-HT and unbalanced inflammatory cytokines secreted by TH1/TH2.
METHODSTotally 90 patients with depressive disorder were randomly assigned to the drug control group (as the control group, 45 cases) and the acupuncture combined drug treatment group (as the treatment group, 45 cases). All patients were treated for 4 consecutive weeks. Another 45 healthy subjects were recruited as a healthy control group. The effect of acupuncture on early onset of SSRls in treating acute phase depressive disorder pa- tients was evaluated by HAMD score in the control group and the treatment group before treatment, and at weekends of the 1st, 2nd, and 4th week after treatment. Besides, their serum levels of 5-HT, IL-1β and IL-6 (secreted by TH1), and IL-4 and IL-10 (secreted by TH2) were detected before treatment and after treatment at the weekend of the 4th week.
RESULTSCompared with the healthy control group, serum lev- els of 5-HT, IL-4, and IL-10 decreased in the two drug-treated groups before treatment (P < 0.01); serum levels of IL-1β and IL-6 increased (P <0.01). Compared with before treatment in the same group, HAMD score decreased in the control group at weekends of the 2nd and the 4th week after treatment (P < 0.01); HAMD scores decreased in the treatment group at weekends of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd,and 4th week after treatment (P < 0.01); serum levels of 5-HT, IL-4, and IL-10 increased, serum levels of IL-1β and IL- 6 decreased in the two drug-treated groups after treatment (all P < 0.01). Compared with the control group at the same time point,HAMD scores decreased in the treatment group at weekends of the 1st, 2nd,3rd,and 4th week after treatment (P < 0.01),serum levels of 5-HT, IL-4, and IL-10 increased (P < 0.05, P < 0.01), serum levels of IL-6 decreased (P < 0. 01).
CONCLUSIONAcupuncture could accelerate early onset of SSRIs in treating acute phase depressive disorder, and effectively regulate serum 5-HT levels and inflammatory cytokines secreted by TH1/TH2.

Relapse after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) remains a main question on treatment failure.Current strategies for management that usually include salvage chemotherapy, donor lymphocytic infusion and second transplantation. Our study assessed the efficacy of decitabine (DAC) for treating patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) who relapsed after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT).We retrospectively analyzed the outcomes of 12 patients with relapsed ALL after allo-HSCT who received DAC therapy.Nine patients received DAC combined with chemotherapy and donor stem cell infusion, and 3 patients received single-agent DAC.Ten of the 12 patients achieved complete remission (CR),1 achieved a partial remission (PR),and 1 had no response (NR) after treatment at the latest follow-up (LFU),the median survival was 11.2 months (range,3.8-34,7 months). The 1-and 2-year overall survival (OS) rates were 50% (6/12) and 25% (3/12),respectively.Five patients were still alive;4 had maintained CR and 1 was alive with disease.Patients with Philadelphia chromosome-positive ALL had higher survival rate than patients with Philadelphia chromosome-negative ALL (57.1% vs.20%).No aggravated flares of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) were observed during DAC treatment. Therefore,DAC may be a promising therapeutic agent for ALL recurrence after allo-HSCT.

OBJECTIVETo analyze clinical features of 4 families with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) and potential mutations of ENG, ACVRL1 and SMAD4 genes.
METHODSFour unrelated HHT patients and their affected family members were analyzed. All exons and flanking regions of ENG, ACVRL1 and SMAD4 genes were analyzed with PCR and direct sequencing and multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) methods.
RESULTSEleven patients from the 4 families were enrolled in this study. Two ENG and 1 ACVRL1 mutations were identified, among which an ENG mutation (c.207G>A; p.L69L) and an ACVRL1 mutation (c.817C>T; p.L273L) have been previously reported. In addition, a novel ENG mutation (c.1004A>T; p.Q335L) has been found in 3 different families. Similar mutations were not detected in 200 healthy individuals. No mutations of ENG, ACVRL1 and SMAD4 were found in the fourth family.
CONCLUSIONA novel mutation c.1004A>T (p. Q335L) of ENG has been identified in patients with HHT. And there is significant phenotypic variability and genetic heterogeneity with the disease.

OBJECTIVETo estimate disease burden and epidemiological characteristics of acute meningitis/encephalitis, and provide the basis for the disease control strategy development.
METHODSA syndrome surveillance system was established in Guigang city with a population of 5 020 000. For the suspected cases, serum and CSF were collected, and bacterial culture, latex agglutination test, real-time PCR and ELISA tests were carried out. All involved cases were identified to 6 categories according to WHO case definition.
RESULTS1424 suspected cases were evaluated in a surveillance of 30 months, yielding the incidence, mortality and mortality of 11.35/100 000 (1424/12 546 500 person years), 0.43/100 000 (54/12 546 500 person years), 3.79% (54/1424) respectively. A total of 103 and 51 cases were confirmed for JE, bacterial meningitis, with a incidence of 0.82/100 000 (103/12 546 500 person years), 0.41/100 000 (51/12 546 500 person years). 96.10% (99/103) of JE cases and 37.30% (19/51) bacterial meningitis cases occurred in < 10 years old children and < 5 years old children. A clinical misdiagnosis rate of 19.42% (20/103) and 15.69% (8/51) were observed for JE and bacterial meningitis.
CONCLUSIONAcute encephalitis, meningitis syndrome can cause a higher burden of disease, of which the main components of viral encephalitis. Most of syndrome is occurred in summer and autumn, mainly reported in children of younger than 10 years old. A quite misdiagnosis would be made among meningitis and encephalitis syndrome cases.
