Objective:To report the clinical, pathological, electrophysiological and genic characteristics of a patient with familial amyloidosis Finnish type. Methods:The clinical characteristic of a 60-year-old female who admitted to Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University in June 2020 was analyzed. Meanwhile, the patient underwent electrophysiological examination, biopsy of labial gland, rectum and skin and gene sequencing analysis. Results:The patient presented left facial paralysis at the age of 50, right facial paralysis and thickening of lips at the age of 55, dysarthria and dysphagia at the age of 56. Physical examination of the patient showed signs of cranial nerves involvement and skin thinning and smoothness. Slit lamp showed corneal lattice dystrophy. Electrophysiological findings of the patient suggested bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome. Latencies were prolonged in bilateral visual evoked potential P100. The deep sensory conduction pathways in bilateral C 7 to biparietal and T 12 to biparietal cortex were abnormal. Pathology of the three biopsies of the patient showed the presence of amyloid deposition in the basement membrane around the glands. The heterozygous mutation of c.654 G>T in exon 4 of gelsolin (GSN) gene in the patient resulted in Asp187 Tyr mutation (p.D187Y). Conclusions:The patient with familial amyloidosis Finnish type was characterized by slowly progressive multiple group cranial neuropathy accompanied by corneal lattice dystrophy and skin changes. Optic nerve and spinal cord posterior funiculus sensory conduction pathway and D187Y mutation of GSN gene were involved.

Chinese Journal of Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Diseases 2006;24(1):16-19
OBJECTIVETo investigate apoptosis and expression of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) induced by cadmium in human embryonic kidney cells (HEK239T).
METHODSThe MTT method was used for determining the cell proliferation activity. The apoptosis was determined by the flow cytometry. The HO-l mRNA expression and protein level were detected by RT-PCR method and Western blot respectively.
RESULTSThe ratios of apoptosis in HEK239T cells were 11.90% +/- 0.28%, 9.27% +/- 1.73%, 9.79% +/- 0.67% and 8 .97% +/- 1.60% at the concentration of 5.0, 10.0, 20.0 and 40.0 micromol/L CdCl(2) respectively, higher than those in the control group (6.69% +/- 0.46%) with the significant difference (P < 0.01). The CdCl(2) of between 10 and 40 micromol/L could highly induce the expression of HO-1 of the human embryonic kidney cells. The expression would increase slowly till the flat stage with the increase of the dosage and then would decrease slightly over time.
CONCLUSIONThe cadmium can induce the apoptosis of the human embryonic kidney cells and up-regulate the expression of HO-1.

Acta Physiologica Sinica 2003;55(6):705-710
The present study investigated the effects of prenatal exposure to the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) magnetic fields on the synaptic ultrastructure of hippocampal formation of rats at different postnatal development stages. Pregnant rats with gestation of 12-18 days were exposed to the magnetic fields used for MRI clinical applications. When the offspring were 1, 2, or 5-month-old, the synaptic morphologic parameters were measured in female offspring. In the 2-month-old MRI group, the curvature of synaptic interface, the length of active zone and the surface density per unit volume (S(v)) of active zone in the dentate gyrus (DG) decreased significantly, and the width of synaptic cleft increased in the CA1 area. In the 5-month-old MRI group, the width of synaptic cleft increased, the thickness of postsynaptic density and the curvature of synaptic interface decreased significantly in the CA1 region, and the width of synaptic cleft increased in the DG. No significant change was observed in the 1-month-old group. These results suggest that prenatal exposure to the medical magnetic fields causes synaptic ultrastructural changes. The relationship of these changes with behavioral impairments was discussed.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effects of large dose of Astragalus membranaceus (Astragalus) on the dentritic cell (DC) induction in vitro and augumentation by peripheral mononuclear cell (MNC) and on antigen presenting ability of DC in children with acute leukemia.
METHODSForty-four children with acute leukemia in complete remission stage were divided into two groups. Twenty patients in the Astragalus (90 g daily) group were treated with large dose of Astragalus (90 g daily) based on conventional chemotherapy for one month, while 24 patients in the control group received chemotherapy alone. MNC were extracted from peripheral blood by wall-sticking method and cultured with such cell factors as interleukin-4, gramulocyte macrophage colony stimulating factor, tumor necrosis factor-alpha for 7-8 days. Phenotype of DC was assayed by flow cytometry and antigen presenting ability of them was assayed by mixed lymphocyte reaction.
RESULTSThere was no morphological difference in MNC induced DC between the two groups. The average number of DC in Astragalus group and control group was 4.4 x 10(6) / 2.5 x 10(6) MNC and 2.6 x 10(6) / 2.5 x 10(6) MNC, respectively, showing significant difference (P < 0.001). DC in Astragalus group could stimulate the proliferation of allogeneic lymphocytes strongly, showing significant difference when compared with that in the control group (P < 0.001). Conclusion Large dose of Astragalus could increase the DC induction of MNC and enhance the antigen presenting ability of DC in acute leukemia patients.

International Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2023;46(3):264-269
The matrix metalloproteinases family (MMPs) are proteins related to tumor formation and metastasis that have attracted the attention of scholars in recent years. Tumor cells can secrete MMPs during malignant transformation, and the expression of MMPs in different malignant tumors is diverse, and different members of MMPs do not have exactly the same biological properties. Matrix metalloproteinase-19 (MMP-19) is a new member of MMPs whose secretion increases rapidly during the malignant transformation of cells and is released into the extracellular space to participate in biological processes such as proliferation, adhesion, invasion, migration, and angiogenesis of tumor cells. In this paper, the progress of research on the biological properties of MMP-19 in tumors was reviewed to provide a theoretical basis for exploring the development of tumors, especially for studying the invasion and metastasis of tumor cells.
