Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of transcatheter arterial embolization with detachable balloon for pulmonary arteriovenous fistula(PAVF). Methods: A 48 year old female with PAVF suffered intermittent emoptysis, fatigability, exertional dyspnea, and palpitations. CT and MRI demonstrated 2 PAVF in the module lobe on right side. Pre embolization super selective pulmonary angiography revealed 2 fistulae communicating to the sac of the lesion.Three detachable balloons were used for embolization of the feeding arterial branch.The diameter of detachable balloons was twice as that of the feeding arterial branch. The study of blood gases showed the arterial oxygen pressure was 6.5 kPa before operation, hemoglobin at 158 g/L. Results: No complications were apparent in our case. Two PAVF were completely occuluded by the embolization of a feeding branch. One month later, the arterial oxygen pressure increased to normal values, hemoglobin at 125 g/L and clinical symptoms disappeared. On postcontrast CT, the fistulas treated by the embolization of a feeding arterial branch were not enhanced. No symptoms and signs were found in follow up for 16 months. Conclusion: The percutaneous transcatheter embolization with detachable balloon is effective for PAVF. [

Objective To understand and raise the level of osteopomsis-relied knowledge, attitudes and behaviors for prevention and treatment of osteoperosis(OP)in residents of a community. Methods A survey was performed with a questionnaires method targeting at the elderly residents in Changfeng community.The survey was conducted with a specifically designed questionnaire,followed by a second survey.during which health edueafion was stressed.Data were analyzed with SPSS 11.0 software. Results In 3524 residents.3367 responded positively.The ratio of male to female was 1:2.10.The average age of the respondents was 61.34 years.They demonstrated a low level of OP KAP.76.72% of them heard the term of OP,60.11% had a correct judgment of their own bone heahh,42.26% knew the cause of OP.and 37.75% understood the diagnostic method of OP.The level of OP KAP varied in different groups of targeted residents.Of all the questions.the understanding of the diagnosis ranked the lowest.2281 people participated in the second survey,which showed improvement in their OP KAP.The difference was statistically significant.1439 people auended the consultation.99.86% of them considered the activities necessary,96.92% expressed their satisfaction,and 98.54% planed tO take measures to improve their bone health.Conclusion The poor understanding of bone heaith status and the knowledge about prevention and treatment of OP is why it is widely spread in the modem society,which however Call be improved by education.

Objective Intranuclear forkhead/winged helix transcription factor p3(Foxp3) plays a key role in T cell-mediated immunosuppression.The present study was performed to investigate the effects of high mobility group box-1 protein(HMGB1) on Foxp3 gene as well as protein expressions in splenic regulatory T cells(Tregs) and their potential regulating mechanisms in mice.Methods CD4+CD25+Tregs isolated from the spleens of male BABL/c mice by magnetic beads were seeded on 96-well(1?105 cells/well) cell culture plates coated with anti-CD3(1 ?g/ml) and soluble anti-CD28(1 ?g/ml),and the cells were stimulated with HMGB1 at various intervals or at different concentrations.After being stimulated,the Foxp3 mRNA/protein expressions in the Tregs were determined.The time-dependent and dose-dependent responses between HMGB1 and intranuclear Foxp3 expression were analyzed by flow cytometry,and the expressions of Foxp3 mRNA of Tregs were analyzed by quantitative PCR of SYBR GREEN.Results After stimulation with HMGB1,the intranuclear Foxp3 protein and mRNA expressions of splenic Tregs in mice were markedly down-regulated in 24 h to 72 h(P

Objective To analyze the concentration of epithelial cell derived neutrophil-activating protein 78(CXCL-5) in the sy-(novial) fluid(SF) and peripheral blood in children with rheumatoid arthritis(RA) and evaluate its clinical relevance to the disease development.Methods SF and peripheral sera were taken from 26 children with RA and 16 healthy controls,and CXCL-5 was measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).CXCL-5 in SF was also measured in RA children after receiving steroid treatment.Results The levels of CXCL-5 was significantly higher than that in the SF of RA children compared with healthy controls(P0.05).Interestingly,CXCL-5 markedly decreased in RA children after steroid treatment(P

Objective Thoracic cavity fistula following esophagus carcinoma resection is a serious complication with a high mortality.This study aims at a better therapy for thoracic cavity fistula following esophagus carcinoma resection by summarizing the ex-perience with the four-tube strategy ( jejunal fistula tube, stomach tube, chest drainage tube, and nasal fistula tube) in the treatment of the complication. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data about 62 cases of thoracic cavity fistula following esopha-gus carcinoma resection, 35 treated with the four-tube strategy ( treatment group) and the other 27 with the three-tube ( stomach tube, chest drainage tube, and nasal fistula tube) method ( control group) .We compared the hospital days, wound healing time, mortality, and incidence of anastomotic stenosis at 6 months after operation between the two groups of patients. Results Compared with the controls, the treatment group showed remarkable decreases in the hospital days (P<0.05), wound healing time (P<0.05), and mortality (P<0.05), but no statistically significant difference was observed in the incidence rate of anastomotic stenosis at 6 months after operation between the two groups of patients ( P >0.05 ) . Conclusion Compared with the three-tube method, the four-tube strategy has the advantages of shorter healing time and lower mortali-ty, and therefore is preferable for the treatment of thoracic cavity fis-tula following esophagus carcinoma resection.

A novel biosensor for aflatoxin B1 detecting has been reported. The biosensor electrode for AFB1 detecting was assembled by immobilized aflatoxin-oxidoreductase using open-ended multi-walled carbon nanotubes as matrix. Its linear range was between 0.16?M and 3.2?M. And if the specific anti-aflatoxin B1 antibody and aflatoxin oxidoreductase were both immobilized on the electrode with Multi-Walled carbon nanotubes, the detection limit of the modified electrode could be 16 nM with a 10 times improved sensitivity. The aflatoxin enzyme biosensor assembled this way strode one step forward its practical application.

Objective To evaluate the role of c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) signaling pathway in the protective effect of isoflurane preconditioning and sevoflurane preconditioning against oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD) injury in rat hippocampal slices. Methods Male adult SD rats weighing 270-290 g were anesthetized with ether and decapitated. The hippocampi were removed and sagittally sliced (400 μm thick) and placed in artificial cerebral spinal fluid aerated with 95% O2-5% CO2 . Ninety-six hippocampal slices were randomly divided into 8 groups (n = 12 each): control group (group C), OGD group, isoflurane preconditioning group (group Iso),sevoflurane preconditioning group (group Sevo) , SP600125 + isoflurane preconditioning group (group SP + Iso),SP600125 +sevoflurane preconditioning group (group SP + Sevo), DMSO + isoflurane preconditioning group (group DMSO + Iso) and DMSO + sevoflurane preconditioning group (group DMSO + Sevo). Electrophysiological technique was used to record the amplitude of population spike ( PS) in the stratum pyramidale of CA1 region and the degree of recovery of PS was calculated. The cell viability was determined by propidium iodide staining. Results Compared with group C, the degree of recovery of PS and cell viability were significantly decreased in the other groups ( P ＜ 0.01) . Compared with group OGD, the degree of recovery of PS and cell viability were significantly increased in groups Iso, Sevo, SP+Iso, SP+Sevo, DMSO+ Iso and DMSO + Sevo (P＜ 0.01). Compared with group Iso, the degree of recovery of PS and cell viability were significantly increased in group SP+Iso ( P ＜ 0.01) , while no significant change was found in group DMSO + Iso ( P ＞ 0.05) . Compared with group Sevo, the degree of recovery of PS and cell viability were significantly increased in group SP + Sevo ( P ＜ 0.01) , while no significant change was found in group DMSO + Sevo ( P ＞ 0.05). Conclusion Isoflurane preconditioning and sevoflurane preconditioning can attenuate the OGD injury to rat hippocampal slices through inhibiting JNK signaling pathway.
