Journal of Endocrine Surgery 2010;04(6):383-387
Objective To investigate the effect of radiofrequency on sodium/iodide symporter expression in thyroid cancer cell. Methods 29 thyroid cancer patients with low or no expression of sodium/iodide symporter underwent radiofrequency ablation combining 131I radiotherapy. Whole-body nuclide imaging and serum Ig were examined before and after radiofrequency ablation. Results Whole-body nuclide imaging showed that there were 4 cases (4/29) positive before radiofrequency ablation, 19 cases (19/29) positive two weeks after radiofrequency ablation and 12 cases (12/29) positive four weeks after radiofrequency ablation. Four weeks after radiofrequency ablation, 4 cases showed an increased serum Ig level, 17 cases with a decreased serum Ig level and 17 cases without any change in serum Ig level. The total effective cases were 25 (25/29) and 15 cases (15/29) were completely cured. Conclusion Radiofrequency ablation induces thyroid cancer cells without sodium/iodide symporter expression to resume iodine intake and thus increased clinical effect of 131I on undifferentiated thyroid cancer.

Objective To investigate the effect of high mobility group box-1 protein (HMGB1) on immune function of peritoneal macrophages in mice. Methods The peritoneal macrophages were isolated from female BALBc mice in vitro. The macrophages were stimulated with different doses of HMGB1 (1, 10, 100, 1 000ng/ml) for 6 hours, or with 100ng/ml HMGB1 for different duration (0, 6, 12, 24, 48, 72 hours). The phagocytosis ability of macrophages was determined by the neutral red dye uptake assay and optical densities of samples were read at 540nm. The cytotoxicity to L1210 cells was measured with MTT assay and was expressed by absorbance at 570nm. The chemotaxis was assayed by using the Costar Transwell cell culture chamber inserts and the cells on the lower surface of the transwell membrane were fixed and counted. The cells were harvested at the indicated time points, fixed, and stained for indirect immunofluorescence, then the expressions of I-Ak MHC class Ⅱ alloantigen on macrophages were determined with flow cytometry. Results The effects of HMGB1 on phagocytic activities, cytotoxicity, chemotaxis and I-Ak antigen expression of macrophages were enhanced in a dose-dependent manner, starting at doses as low as 1ng/ml and with a maximal response at 100ng/ml (P

Natural Calculus Bovis, one of the precious traditional Chinese medicines,is the dried gallstone in bovine gallbladder, bile duct or hepatic duct.It is one of the essential components of the formulation of a variety of traditional Chinese medicines.Due to high price and rareness of natural Calculus Bovis,Chinese researchers have developed artificial Calculus Bovis, cultured Calculus Bovis and Calculus Bovis Sativus as substitutes of it.They are mainly composed of bilirubin, bile acids, amino acids and inorganic elements.Due to the co-existence of natural Calculus Bovisa and its substitutes in the market, and the complex composition of them, identification, quality control and material basis study of them are important issues in recent years.Currently, the quality control of them mainly focus on cholic acid and bilirubin. In order to fully solve the quality control problem of natural Calculus Bovis and its substitutes, researches on testing techniques of other bile acids or other components have already started. In this paper, research progress on the chemical compositions, quality control and the test technology of bilirubin, bile acids, amino acids and other components of Calculus Bovis are reviewed,in order to provide reference for further research of Calculus Bovis.

Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2006;12(9):804-805
ObjectiveTo assesses the skeletal development of adolescent in Yantai area, and investigates the characteristics of the tendency of their skeletal development. MethodsTotally 1180 healthy adolescents ( 574 males and 606 females ) at 10 to 20 years of age living in Yantai area were randomly selected, and their left wrist were radiated at the posterior-anterior position. The bones at wrist were scored according to the Chinese Wrist Skeletal Development Standard CHN Method. The correlation among skeletal age, chronological age and the sex were analyzed. ResultsSkeletal age positively correlated with chronological age (male: r=0.943,females: r=0.942,totally: r=0.942). ConclusionThe skeletal development of adolescent in Yantai area has the characteristic of acceleration. So it is necessary to establish a new skeletal age standard for the skeletal development of adolescent.

Chinese Traditional and Herbal Drugs 1994;0(12):-
Objective To testify the screening function of stachyose on soil bacteria by investigating the bacterial culture in ammonium stachyose medium. Methods The turbidimetry was used to determine the absorbance of microbial suspension at 600 nm per 2 h under the same initial concentration of the microbial suspension and to draw their growth curves. Results Most of soil bacteria utilized stachyose ineffectively, while only a few of them grown well in ammonium stachyose medium. Conclusion Since the major soil bacteria can not take stachyose fully as their energy resources, the species and quantity of rhizobacteria may decrease largely and only a few that utilized stachyose better can develop vigorously. Those rhizobateria with better utilization of stachyose may multiply so rapidly as potential ones in the rhizosphere of Rehmannia glutinosa that the disequilibrium of soil microorganism appears.

Objective To study the detection rate of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) with different perfusion methods on rabbit VX2 small hepatocellular carcinoma less than 10.0 mm. Methods VX2 tumor cells were inoculated into the subcutaneous tissue of New Zealand rabbit′s thigh. Then the plant tumor were cut into small blocks under sterile conditions and transplanted into hepatic parenchyma in 30 New Zealand rabbits. The contrast media was injected through peripheral vein by single and double perfusion methods. The detection rate of two methods were compared. Results There were 41 hepatocellular carcinoma lesions in the 30 rabbits. There were 15 lesions with size between 3.0 mm and 5.0 mm, and 26 lesions between 5.0 mm and 10.0 mm in diameter. On CEUS, the VX2 tumor presented fast-in and fast-out pattern. In arterial phase, the lesion was enhanced rapidly. In portal venous phase, contrast began to wash out from the carcinoma. In delay phase, the enhancement of lesion was signiifcantly lower than the surrounding normal liver parenchyma. A total of 32 lesions were detected by single perfusion method, including 7 lesions ranging 3.0-5.0 mm and 25 lesions ranging 5.0-10.0 mm. A total of 39 lesions were detected by double perfusion method, including 13 lesions ranging 3.0-5.0 mm and 26 lesions ranging 5.0-10.0 mm. The detection rate of micro-hepatocellular carcinoma by single and double perfusion method was 78% and 95% respectively. The difference was statistically signiifcant (χ2=5.150, P=0.023). The detection rate of 3.0-5.0 mm lesions by single and double perfusion method was 47%and 87%, respectively. The difference was statistically signiifcant ( χ2=5.400, P=0.025). The detection rate of 5.0-10.0 mm lesions by single and double perfusion method was 96% and 100%, respectively. There was no statistically signiifcant difference (χ2=1.020, P=0.500). Conclusion The double perfusion method greatly promotes the detection of micro hepatocellular carcinoma, especially for the lesions less than 5.0 mm in diameter.
