General/family medicine is a newly established major in medical education to meet the demands in general/family doctors. It is a new educational reform subject for medical schools to enhance the teaching for students in general medicine. Pathophysiology is a bridging course for foun-dational medical courses to be connected to clinical courses, and it is also a required course for med-ical students in cultivating students' critical thinking abilities. In military medical schools, there are certain features in the students. It is quite common to find these students have less desired academic foundation, and they come from different areas in the military units and will go back to certain units upon graduation. In the teaching of the course of pathophysiology, it has been proved that the following methods can help promoting the quality of teaching and learning. These methods include adjusting the teaching contents to emphasize the key points, selecting teaching methods to enhance interactions, and utilizing the advantages of internet and multi-media facilities in case discussions. However, there is still a long way to go to find out better ways in adjusting the course contents to the needs of general medicine education and sequencing the foundational courses in the medical courses.

Objective To assess the effects of surgical treatment for patients with blepharochalasis and its associated abnormali- ties. Design Retrospective case series, Participants 35 cases (52 eyes) with blepharochalasis in stable phase. Methods The correction of the abnormalities in upper eyelids: after designing the lid crease incision, the redundant eyelid skin and prolapsed fat were excised, and prolapsed lacrimal glands were sutured back into position in 18 cases (36 eyes) and ptosis was treated in 10 cases (16 eyes). The correction of abnormalities in lower eyelids: lower eyelid retraction was corrected in 4 cases (6 eyes). The correction of lateral canthus malformation: lateral canthus rounding was treated in 7 cases (14 eyes), accompanied with or followed by correction of baggy eyelid or ptosis. Main Outcome Measures The shape, location and movement of bilateral eyelids, the location of lacrimal glands and the cir- cumstance of tear secretion. Results During the follow-up of 6～60 months, the appearance and location of bilateral eyelids and can- thuses were satisfying, the function of eyelids were normal, and no dry eye symptoms were found. Two cases (3 eyes) appeared recurrent lacrimal gland prolapse 29 and 36 months postoperation and received surgeries for correction again. There was no recurrence after the second prolapse correction surgery in the follow-up of 18 and 24 months respectively. Conclusions Surgical treatment for patients with blepharochalasis and its associated abnormalities is safe and effective. Its recurrence rate is low.

Objective To prepare an active anti-tumor component, compound K (C-K), from saponins in leaves of Panax notoginseng (SLPN) using immobilized β-glucanase. Methods Two entrapments, alginate gel-1 (Alg 1) and alginate gel-2 (Alg 2), were evaluated for their ability to immobilize β-glucanase. The amount and purity of C-K obtained from the transformation process were analyzed by HPLC, and the immobilizing parameters were optimized. Results β-Glucanase can be immobilized and reused with either of the entrapment. However, using AIg 1 resulted in higher enzyme activity than Alg 2. The optimal concentration of the immobilized enzyme was 10%; The optimal crosslinking time was 4-6 h; and the optimal concentration of the crosslinking agent was 6%-7%. Conclusion Immobilized β-glucanase shows sustained enzyme activity, good ethanol tolerance, and was reusable for the preparation of C-K from SLPN.

OBJECTIVETo observe the clinical efficacy differences among warming-promotion acupuncture, regular acupuncture and psychological care for post-earthquake depression.

METHODSNinety cases of post-earthquake depression in Gansu province were randomly divided into a warming-promotion acupuncture group, a regular acupuncture group and a care group, 30 cases in each one. The psychological treatment was applied in the care group; the regular acupuncture at Baihui (GV 20), Sishencong (EX-HN 1)), Fengchi (GB 20), Shenmen (HT 7), Yang-lingquan (GB 34), Taichong (LR 3) and Sanyinjiao (SP 6) was used in the regular acupuncture group; based on the treatment of regular acupuncture group, the warming-promotion acupuncture was applied in the warming-promotion acupuncture group, once a day. Ten days were taken as one course with an interval of two days between two courses. Totally 3 treatment courses were completed. The Hamilton depression (HAMD) scale before and after treatment in each group was observed while the efficacy was analyzed.

RESULTSAll three treatments were effective for depression. The total cured rate was 86.67% (26/30) in the warming-promotion acupuncture group, which was obviously superior to 50.00% (15/30) in the regular acupuncture group (P < 0.01) and 33.33% (10/30) in the care group (P < 0.001). After the treatment, the score of HAMD was all reduced in three groups, in which the effect in warming-promotion acupuncture group was superior to that in the regular acupuncture group and care group (9.02 +/- 2.37 vs 10.73 +/- 2.28 and 11.05 +/- 2.01, P < 0.05, P < 0.01).

CONCLUSIONThe warming-promotion acupuncture has positive effect on post-earthquake depression, which has special effect and is worthy of clinical generalization and application.

Objective To evaluate the value of prenatal ultrasound in the interrupted aortic arch (IAA), and analyze the reasons of misdiagnosis and improve diagnostic ratio of this kind of defects. Methods Ultrasonic characteristics were analyzed in 16 fetuses with aortic arch anomalies, which were compared with ultrasound image and autopsy results of the normal fetus. The relativity of fetal IAA and abnormal chromosome was also analyzed. Results Among the 16 cases, 15 cases were confirmed by anatomy and the accuracy of ultrasound diagnosis was 94% (15/16), of which one case was serious constriction of aortic arch, one case was error type, three cases were obtained explicit type due to unsatisfactory results of prenatal ultrasound. The coincidence rate of ultrasonic type was 73% (11/15). All of the corrected diagnosed cases were detected with ventricular septal, of which 5 cases were detected with complete endocardial cushion defect, 9 cases were found extra cardiac malformations. Among the 7 karyotype check cases, 3 cases were diagnosed with Trisomy 18, 1 case Trisomy 13, while the rest 3 cases normal. The incidence rate of Trisomy 18 was 43 % (3/7). Conclusions Prenatal ultrasound shows a high accuracy in diagnosing fetal interrupted aortic arch (IAA ), but there’s a need to be improved in explicit typing. It is difficult to identify fetal interrupted aortic arch (IAA) and serious constriction of aortic arch (COA). The incidence rate of Trisomy 18 in the abnormal chromosome of fetal IAA is high.
