Objective To discuss the role of endothelicyte activation in the development of pulmonary hypertension (PH) and vascular remodeling. Methods A total of 10 patients with simple ventricular septal defect(VSD)of congenital heart disease(CHD)were choosen as controls, and 30 patients with different degree of PH were studied. Plasma levels of interleukin-1(IL-1), endothelin-1 (ET-1) and nitric oxide (NO) which represented the degree of endothelicyte activation were measured by radioimmunoassay and commercial available kit. The specimens taken from right lung before cardiopulmonary bypass were fixed by formaldehyde solution. The percentage of vascular wall thickness/vascular external diameter (WT/D) and the percentage of vascular area/total vascular area (WA/A) which represented vascular remodeling, were measured by QTM970 analysator. Results Compared with patients of simple VSD, the plasma levels of IL-1, ET-1/NO and WA/A, WT/D increased in patients with PH. Conclusion The activation of endothelicytes and imbalance of ET/NO play an important role in the development of PH and vascular remodeling. OBJECTIVE To study the epidemiology of the drug-resistant genes in meticillin-resistant coagulase negative staphylococcus(MRCNS).METHODS mecA,aac(6′)/aph(2″) and aph(3′)-Ⅲgenes of aminoglycoside-modifying enzyme(AME) and ermA/B/C genes of erythromycin methyltransferase were detected by polymerase chain reaction(PCR) from 40 MRCNS strains.RESULTS Thirty-nine strains carried mecA gene,32 strains with aac(6′)/aph(2″) gene,15 strains with aph(3′)-Ⅲ gene,30 strains with ermA/B/C gene and 2 strains with tetM gene in 40 MRCNS strains.CONCLUSIONS About 65% MRCNS strains carry mecA,aac(6′)/aph(2″),/aph(3′)-Ⅲ and ermA/B/C genes at the same time.

Objective To study the effects of mild hypothermia on nervous cell apoptosis and activity of Caspase - 3 after hypoxia -ischemia brain damage (HIBD) in neonatal rats. Methods Seven - day SD rats were divided into sham operation group,normothermia HIBD group (HIBD group) and mild hypothermia HIBD group(mild hypothermia group). In HIBD group,the left carotid of rats was ligated and animals were exposed to 8% oxygen for 2 h.and in mild hypothermia group,hypothermia of 31 - 32 1C lasting 8 hours was used just after HIBD. L sing methods of TUNEL and AC - DEVI) - AMC, the apoptotic cell rate and Caspase - 3 activity level were determined in sham operated group, HIBD group and mild hypothermia group separatively. Results The apoptotic cell rate and Caspase - 3 activity level were significantly lower in sham - operated group and mild hypothermia group than those in HIBD group. Conclusion One of the mechanisms of brain protection by mild hypothermia may be contributed to the decrease of neural cell apoptosis and the activity level of Caspase 3 HIBD.

From an ethanol extract of Euphorbia micractina roots, seven steroids fifteen aromatic derivatives were isolated by a combination of various chromatographic techniques, including column chromatography over macroporous resin, silica gel, and Sephadex LH-20 and reversed-phase HPLC. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic data analysis as stigamast-5-ene-3beta, 7alpha-diol(1), stigamast-5-ene-3beta,7beta-diol(2), stigmast-5-en-3beta-ol-7-one(3), stigmast-4-en-6beta-ol-3-one(4), stigmast-1, 4-dien-3-one(5), stigmast-3,6-dione(6), beta-sitosterol(7), scopoletin(8), aesculetin(9), 6-hydroxy-5,7-dimethoxycoumarin(10), quercetin(11), 3,3', 4'-tri-O-methylellagic acid(12), p-hydroxyphenylethyl anisate(13), m-hydroxyphenylethyl alcohol(14), (E)-cinnamic acid(15), (E)-ferulic acid(16), 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid(17), vanillic acid(18), p-hydroxybenzoic acid(19), ethyl 3,4-dihydroxybenzoate (20), ethyl gallate(21), and methyl gallate(22). These compounds were obtained from this plant for the first time.

The systematic position of Fritillaria hupehensis has been in dispute. Phylogentic analyses were conducted on sequences of ITS, rpl16, matK sequences for species of F. hupehensis and allies. Lilium davidii was designed as outgroup. The analyses were performed using MP and ML methods. Conclusions could be achieved as follow. The topologies of MP and ML are consistent. The samples of F. hepehensis from different places form a supported clade with a strong bootstrap. And then form a strongly supported clade with F. anhuiensis, F. monantha. The results suggests that although F. hupehensis has a closet relation with the two ones, it exists some difference.

AIM:To investigate whether mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm ) and the mitochondrial ap-optotic pathway are involved in the protective mechanism of Panax quinquefolium saponin ( PQS) against cardiomyocyte ap-optosis after ischemia/reperfusion ( I/R) injury in rat myocardium .METHODS: Ninety healthy male SD rats were ran-domly divided into sham group , I/R group, PQS (200 mg· kg -1 · d-1 ) +I/R group, cyclosporine A ( CsA) group, CsA (10 mg· kg-1 ) +I/R group and PQS +CsA +I/R group.The model of myocardial I/R injury in vivo was established by ligating the left anterior descending artery ( LAD) for 30 min followed by 120 min of reperfusion in the rats .The serum ac-tivity of lactate dehydrogenase ( LDH ) was measured by automatic chemistry analyzer .The myocardial infarct size was measured by Evans blue and 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining.Cardiomyocyte apoptosis was detected by in situ TDT-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL).The protein levels of Bcl-2, Bax, cleaved caspase-3 and cytosol-ic cytochrome C were determined by Western blotting .ΔΨm was measured by laser scanning confocal microscopy and fluo-rescence microplate reader .RESULTS:Compared with I/R group, the serum content of LDH ,the infarction size in PQS+I/R group, CsA+I/R group and PQS +CsA+I/R group and the myocardial apoptotic index were decreased .Compared with I/R group, the fluorescence intensity of mitochondria after JC-1 staining was enhanced in PQS +I/R group, CsA+I/R group and PQS+CsA+I/R group, and the relative fluorescence units (RFU) ofΔΨm were improved in those 3 groups. In PQS+I/R group, CsA+I/R group and PQS+CsA+I/R group, the protein expression of Bcl-2 was increased, and that of Bax was decreased compared with I/R group.Moreover, in those 3 groups, the protein levels of cleaved-caspase-3 and cytosolic cytochrome C were decreased compared to I /R group, respectively.CONCLUSION:PQS attenuates myocardial injury and cardiomyocyte apoptosis during I /R, and the protective mechanisms of PQS were associated with the modulation ofΔΨm and the inhibition of mitochondrial apoptosis pathway .

This paper is to build a finite element model of brain with a real brain shapeon which simulation studies of electrical impedance tomography EIT in the brain is based. A curve of a real brain shape is simulated with the curve-fitting methods and EIT in the brain is finished with finite-element methods and Equipotential Lines Back-Projection algorithm.The locationarea and amplitude of the change of the resistivity are reconstructed accurately. But the image quality has to be further improved.This paper provides a basis for clinical applications of EIT in brain.

Objective To study the expression and clinical significance of?-catenin and c-myc in gastric adenocarcinoma and corresponding para cancer gastric mueosa.Methods Two hundreds and ninety seven samples were collected from 102 cases of gastric adenocarcinoma,including 102 cancerous tissues and 195 para-cancerous tissues.Each sample was made into 282,156 and 156 dots tissue microarrays.Expressions of?-catenin and c-myc proteins were detected by immunohistochemical stain- ing.Results The expressions of?-catenin and c-mye were increased gradually in the process of gastric carcinogenesis.The rates of?-catenin and c myc expression were higher in carcinoma than that in intesti- nal metaplasia( P＜0.05,P＜0.001).The aberrant expression of?-catenin was closely related to the depth of invasion(P＜0.05),and the expression of c-myc was related to histological grade( P＜0.05). The aberrant expression of?-catenin was significantly correlated with the expression of c-myc in gastric adenocarcinoma(P＜0.05).Conclusions The aberrant expression of?-catenin may activate the expres sion of target gene c-myc,which plays a pivotal role in the carcinogenesis and progression of gastric adenocarcinoma.
