China Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology 2016;29(1):64-67
OBJECTIVETo investigate the effects of closed reduction and ulna intramedullary nail fixation for the treatment of fresh Monteggia fractures of Bado type I and II in children.
METHODSTwenty-three children patients with Monteggia fracture during July 2010 to September 2013 were treated by closed reduction and ulna intramedullary nail fixaion including 18 boys and 5 girls with an average age of 9.3 years old ranging from 6 to 13 years old. Among them,15 cases were Bado type I and 8 cases were Bado type II. There were 9 cases with radial nerve injury. The operation time, the recovery of nerve injury, the fracture healing and the function of elbow were observed and recorded.
RESULTSAll patients were followed up for 6 to 24 months (12 months on average). All patients were obtained bone healing. According to Anderson standard, at the final follow-up, 20 cases got excellent result, 2 cases got good result, and one case got fair result.
CONCLUSIONTreatment of the fresh Monteggia fractures in children by closed reduction and ulna intramedullary nail fixation has advantages of simple operation, less trauma and good results.

ObjectiveTo investigate the role of vascular endotheliar growth factor(VEGF),chemokine receptor 4(CXCR4) and stromal cell-derived factor-1(SDF-1) in Wilms tumor as well as their relationship with clinical features by examining the expressions of VEGF,CXCR4 and SDF-1.MethodsThirty cases of Wilms tumor samples and 12 cases of adjacent kidney tissue were collected from the First and the Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from May 2003 to May 2008.Thirteen boys and 17 girls aging from 4 months to 7 years old of whom were 22 favorable histologic types and 8 unfavorable histologic types.By means of cytoplasm to dye buffy for masculine cell, staining intensity and percentage of positive tumor cells serve as the judgment criteria for being positive or negative. All tissues would be tested by hematoxylin and eosin stain at the same time.ResultsThe positive expression rate of VEGF,CXCR4 and SDF-1 in Wilms tumor were 63.33%,70.0% and 53.33%.Those in adjacent normal kidney tissue were 25.0%,8.3% and 16.7%.The 2 groups were statistically significant(Pa

ObjectiveTo study the effect of testing amino acids levels in brain microdialysate by method of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with α-aminobutyric acid (AABA) as the internal standard.MethodsReversed phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC), orthophthaladehyde (OPA) precolumn derivatization method and fluorescence detector were used. The separation was performed using an ODS-C18 column. AABA, an isomeric compound of GABA, served as the internal standard, phosphate buffer solution and methanol as the mobile phase, gradient elution lasted in 35 min.Results7 kinds of amino acids and internal standard were separated completely. The mean recovery of amino acid was 88.2%—102.3%. The mean correlation coeffeicient of the linear relationship was 0.998±0.0015.Limits of detection for amino acids were 1.0—8.6 ppm respectively.ConclusionThe method mentioned above is simple and sensitive for operation, and can be used for determined levels of amino acids in microdialysate.

Objective To observe the expression and mechanism of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) and p53 protein at the altitude of 5000 meter plateau hypoxia environment in rats,as well as the effect of Astragalus injection. Methods Sixty Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into the Astragalus injection intervention group and normal saline control group,30 rats in each group.Astragalus injection group rats were intraperitoneal injected of Astragalus injection (15 ml/kg) before 30 minutes into the plateau environment simulation cabin, normal saline group rats were intraperitoneal injected with the same volume of saline.30 minutes after injection, rats in each group were reared in the plateau experiment cabin which simulated altitude of 5000 m (oxygen partial pressure 11.3 kPa) for 2,6,8,12,24 hours, each time period of 6 rats. When get out,the rats were executed immediately and eyes were harvested.Retinal sections were studied by hematoxylin eosin stain, and immunohistochemical method for HIF-1α and p53 expression. Results For control rats, after 2 hours in the cabin, there was edema in retinal layers.HIF-1α and p53 were expressed mainly in the cytoplasm of retinal layers. When the periods in cabin extended, there was atrophy of retinal nerve fiber layer, swelling and degeneration of ganglion cells. The expression of HIF-1α and p53 was increased.Compared with the control group, the intervention group rat had similar but less severe retinal changes, and the expression of HIF-1α and p53 was significantly decreased (P <0.05).Conclusion Astragalus injection can reduce pathological retinal damage in rats at high altitude environment, and its mechanism may be associated with reduced HIF-1α,p53 expression.

Objective To quantitatively assess the virucidal activities of three commercial disin-fectants against human infected highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses subtype H5. Methods The 50%tissue culture infective dose ( TCID50 ) of avian influenza viruses was calculated. Quantitative suspension test was performed to evaluate the efficacy of three disinfectants. In that test, 105 TCID50 of avian influenza viru-ses were exposed to different disinfectants at different concentrations for different times with or without the in-terference with fetal bovine serum ( FBS) simulating the contaminated condition. The residual infectivity was determined by endpoint titration in Madin-Darby canine kidney ( MDCK) cells. The detail steps were that the mixture of viruses and disinfectants was inoculated at 37℃ with 5% CO2 for 1 hour. Then, it was re-placed by virus dilution medium and further incubated for 18 to 20 hours. ELISA was performed for the cal-culation of TCID50 . The titers of residual viruses were calculated according to Reed and Muench method. The low pathogenic avian influenza virus H9N2 was chosen as the control in this study. Results The re-mained infectivities of three viruses after 1 minute exposure to 1% Virkon solution were below the limit of de-tection (1. 0 lgTCID50/100 μl). Exposing to 0. 5% Virkon solution decreased the viral titers of H5N1 and H9N2 viruses below the detection limit and reduced the titer of H5N6 virus to 1. 75 lgTCID50/100 μl. The virucidal efficacy of 0. 25% Virkon solution against some of the detected viruses was achieved by increasing the exposure time to 5 minutes. The 84 Disinfectant solutions at concentrations of 10%, 5% and 2. 5% low-ered the viral titers of three viruses below the detection limit of 1. 0 lgTCID50/100 μl, but the 1. 25% 84 Disinfectant solution only lowered the viral titers to 1. 25-2. 5 lgTCID50/100 μl. The similar results were ob-served in groups treated with SOLARSEPT solutions. 1% 84 Disinfectant solution didn′t show any virucidal activity against the three viruses after 1 minute of exposure even when the exposure time was extended to 5 minutes. Under the contaminated condition, 1% Virkon solution, 10% and 5% 84 Disinfectant solutions as well as 100% and 50% SOLARSEPT solutions lowered the viral titers below 1. 0 lgTCID50/100μl. Conclu-sion The three commercial disinfectants (1% Virkon solution, 10% 84 Disinfectant solution and SOLAR-SEPT solution) were efficient virucides for highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses subtype H5 even under the contaminated condition. Increasing the exposure time had no significant effects on the efficacy of three disinfectants after the virucidal activities were neutralized by enough viruses. No significant differences in vi-rucidal activities of three disinfectants against HPAI H5 viruses and LPAI H9 virus were observed.
