ObjectiveTo observe the effects of the two kinds of rigid fixed bridge design on the stress of the alveolar bone of mandibular first molar after hemisection.MethodsThe normal mandibular first molars were selected as control group. The two-abutment teeth and three-abutment teeth rigidly fixed bridge designs were selected as trial group. Stress distributions in the remaining sections of the alveolar bone models were evaluated with photoelastic stress analysis method.ResultsThe stress values of two kinds of rigid fixed bridge design were higher than the control group but still below the twice. There was no significantly difference between two-abutment teeth rigidly fixed bridge design and three-abutment teeth rigidly fixed bridge design (P>0.05).ConclusionTwo-abutment teeth rigidly fixed bridge of mandibular first molar should be chosen after hemisection.

(TGF-?)were double immunostained. Results Ki-67 in mast cells was rarely expressed in each group. Expressions of regulate upon activation normal T cell expressed and secreted(RANTES),Eotaxin and TGF-? in cellular leiomyoma were 78%,89%,91%,respectively.They were all higher than those in ordinary leiomyoma and leiomyosarcoma(P
6.Relationship between expression of aquaporin-1, -5 and pulmonary edema in hyperoxia-induced lung injury in newborn rats.
Chinese Journal of Contemporary Pediatrics 2006;8(2):147-150
OBJECTIVEAquaporin (AQP) is a group of cell membrane transporting proteins. The study was designed to investigate the changes of AQP1 and AQP5 in the lung tissue under hyperoxia and their roles in pulmonary edema.
METHODSTwo hundred newborn rats were randomized into different oxygen concentrations exposure: FiO2=0.80 (Experimental group 1), FiO2=0.60 (Experimental group 2), FiO2=0.40 (Experimental group 3) and FiO2=0.21 (Air control group). Rats were sacrificed at 1, 3, 5, 7 and 14 days after the beginning of experiment (10 rats each time point). The expressions of AQP1 and AQP5 were examined by Western Blot. The ratio of lung wet weight to lung dry weight (wet-to-dry weight ratio, W/D), and the protein content in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) were measured.
RESULTSCompared with the Air control group, the W/D ratio and the protein content in BALF in the three experiment groups increased significantly and the increased extent was positively related to the duration and the oxygen concentration of hyperoxia-exposure. The expression of AQP1 in the experimental groups began to decrease at the 3rd day and significant differences were found at the 5th and the 7th days after hyperoxia-exposure compared with that in the Air control group (P < 0.05). The AQP1 expression was restored somewhat at the 14th day after hyperoxia-exposure, but it was still lower in the Experimental groups 1 and 2 than that in the Air control group (P < 0.05). The expression of AQP5 in the experimental groups were reduced compared with that in the Air control group 3 days after hyperoxia-exposure and the decrease of AQP5 expression was associated with duration of hyperoxia-exposure. The comparison among three experimental groups showed that the decrease of AQP1 and AQP5 expressions was associated with the concentration of hyperoxia-exposure.
CONCLUSIONSThe expressions of AQP1 and AQP5 decreased in hyperoxia-induced lung injury and correlated with the severity of pulmonary edema.

OBJECTIVETo analyze the stress distribution of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) in posterior cross-bite of individual teeth and in normal occlusion during the intercuspal occlusion (ICO).
METHODSOn the basis of the geometric TMJ model of normal occlusion, the TMJ finite element model of posterior cross-bite of individual teeth was reconstructed. The occlusal force and boundary conditions were applied on the model. Using three-dimensional finite element method (FEM), the stress distribution of TMJ in posterior cross-bite of individual teeth was analyzed by simulating the ICO load.
RESULTSNo significant differences were found in stress distribution in various TMJ structures between posterior cross-bite of individual teeth and normal occlusion. However, the stress level was higher and the stress distribution was more inhomogeneous in posterior cross-bite of individual teeth than in normal occlusion. In the cross-bite malocclusion of individual posterior teeth, the maximum of von Mises stress was 0.792 MPa, the maximum principal stress was 0.598 MPa and the minimum principal stress was -0.744 MPa. But in normal occlusion, the maximum of von Mises stress was 0.592 MPa, the maximum principal stress was 0.395 MPa and the minimum principal stress was -0.554 MPa.
CONCLUSIONSWhen the ICO load was applied, the stress distribution of TMJ was more inhomogeneous and the stress level was higher in posterior cross-bite of individual teeth than in normal occlusion.

BACKGROUNDUmbilical cord around neck, a common obstetric complication, affects fetal hemodynamics. Does it influence fetal cardiac functions? The purpose of this study was to investigate the left and right ventricular systolic and diastolic functions of fetuses with umbilical cord around neck in the third trimester by applying velocity vector imaging (VVI).
METHODSThirty-five cases of fetuses with umbilical cord around neck whose gestational ages from 35 to 40 weeks were selected, including 20 cases of umbilical artery ratio of the highest systolic velocity (S) to the lowest diastolic velocity (D) (S/D) < 3.0 and 15 cases of umbilical artery S/D ≥ 3.0, while 20 cases of normal fetuses of 35 - 40 gestational weeks were selected as the control group. The changes in longitudinal velocity, strain, and strain rate of fetal left and right ventricle in systole and diastole in two groups, and the changes in fetal cardiac function under the situation of umbilical cord around neck were analyzed.
RESULTSLongitudinal strain and strain rate overall of fetal left and right ventricle in systole and diastole were less in fetuses with umbilical artery S/D (3)3.0 and umbilical cord around neck than those in fetuses with umbilical artery S/D < 3.0 and those in control group (P < 0.05); there was no significant difference (P > 0.05) in longitudinal strain and strain rate overall of fetal left and right ventricle in systole and diastole between fetuses with umbilical artery S/D < 3.0 and those in control group.
CONCLUSIONSLeft and right ventricular systolic and diastolic dysfunction was detected in fetuses with umbilical cord around neck and umbilical artery S/D (3)3.0. VVI could sensitively respond to cardiac function changes in fetuses with umbilical cord around neck, which provides another valuable method in the evaluation of fetal cardiac function.

Objective To investigate the effect of prolonged stroboscopic illumination exposure on the growth of eyeball of guinea pig. Methods Thirty 2-week-old guinea pigs were randomized into three groups ( n=10 for each) . Two strobe-reared groups were raised with 20 Hz sinusoidal and 20 Hz square wave stroboscopic illumination, respectively. The control group received usual light illumination. The illumination intensity was 500 lux. All animals underwent refraction and biometric measurements prior to and after 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks of treatment. Finally, flash electroretinograms were com-pared, and retinal microstructures were examined. Results There was a significant correlation between refractive errors and axial eye elongation, and myopia increasing was observed with eye elongation. After 8 weeks of treatment, the animals raised in 20 Hz sinusoidal and 20 Hz square wave stroboscopic illumination were (-0. 75 ± 0. 79)D and (-1. 50 ± 0. 91) D more myopic than the group raised in continuous illumination. The implicit time of the a-wave was delayed by 3. 8 and 7. 9 ms, respectively. No significant difference was found in retinal ultrastructures among the three groups. Conclusions Chronic exposure to 20 Hz sinusoidal or square wave stroboscopic illumination alters the emmetropization of the guinea pig eye to some extent.
