Objective To study the relationship of the plasma levels of high sensitive C-reactive protein(hs-CRP),adrenomedullin(ADM),brain natriuretic peptide(BNP)and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs)with severity of heart falure, the left ventricular ejection fraction and the relationship among them in the elderly patients with congestive heart failure(CHF). Methods The blood samples were obtained from 50 patients with congestive heart failure and 24 healthy controls.The plasma level of hs-CRP was measured by immunoturbidometry.The plasma levels of ADM and BNP were determined by radioimmunoassay.The plasma levels of MMP-2 and MMP-9 were measured with ELISA.Left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)was measured by echocardiography. AIM:To compare the two techniques of pre-chop and non-pre-chop, and discuss the technical advantages of the capsulorhexis forceps assisted pre-chop.METHODS:Totally 149 cases of age-related cataract were randomly divided into using pre-chop (Group A) and non-pre-chop (Group B) techniques groups, for Group A patients received phacoemulsification after pre-chop by using capsulorhexis forceps.The ultrasonic energy, average phacoemulsification time, intraoperative complications, 1d, 1wk uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) and 1d, 3d,1wk postoperative corneal edema were recorded and compared.RESULTS:The subgroups of the same group of nuclei were compared in the two groups.The ultrasonic time in Group A was lower than that of Group B, and the difference was significant(P<0.01).Also the corneal edema in the former was lighter than that of the latter(P<0.05).There was difference in uncorrected visual acuity(UCVA) between groups(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:Compared with non-pre-chop, the time of ultrasound in pre-chop group was shorter, the degree of corneal edema was lighter and early postoperative UCVA was better.

Objective To study the changes of IL 2 and IL 6 levels and lymphocyte DNA damage in peripheral blood of dog intoxicated by sulfur mustard. Methods Chongqing dogs were subcutaneously injected with sulfur mustard at the dose of 16 mg/kg. Lymphocytes and serum were isolated from dog peripheral blood at different time points as designed. The IL 2 and IL 6 levels in blood serum were measured by radioimmunoassay and lymphocyte DNA damage represented as comet tail length was determined by single cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE). Results Four hours after administration of sulfur mustard, the serum IL 2 and IL 6 levels dogs injected with sulfur mustard decreased and reached the lowest level at 72 h. A significant recovery was found at the time point of 120 h. SCG revealed sulfur mustard induced DNA fragmentation (comet) in dog peripheral lymphocytes. The rate of the damaged lymphocytes and the degree of DNA fragment migration began to increase at 4 h and progressively increased from 24 h to 72 h after sulfur mustard treatment. Conclusion Sulfur mustard intoxication induces early and long lasting decreases in serum IL 2 and IL 6 levels and lymphocyte DNA fragmentation in dog peripheral blood.
