OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of four natures of medicine on therapeutic effect of acupoint sticking therapy.
METHODSSixty-one cases of primary dysmenorrhea were randomly divided into a capsaicin group (n=20), a menthol group (n=20) and a control group (n=21). They were treated respectively with capsaicin and menthol, which are extracts of Lajiao (Fructus Capsici) and Bohe (Herba Menthae) with same pungent in flavor and different cold (cool) and heat in property, and application of Tongjing Jiu Tieji (plaster for dysmenorrhea) at Shenque (CV 8). Changes of clinical symptoms before and after treatment were observed.
RESULTSAfter treatment, the cumulative scores of symptoms and the scores of pain decreased significantly in the 3 groups (P < 0.01), with no significant differences among the 3 groups (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONIn acupoint sticking therapy, the four natures of medicine have no obvious effect on the therapeutic effect, so the four natures of medicine should not used as main standard of medicine selection.

3.Effects of different interference orders of acupuncture and exercise therapy on the amplitude of somatosensory evoked potential (SEP) in the patient of hemiplegia after stroke.

OBJECTIVETo observe effects of different interference orders of acupuncture and exercise therapy on the therapeutic effect.
METHODSThe patients of hemiplegia after stroke in the stage of recovery were randomly divided into two groups: raising handclasp of Bobath after electroacupuncture at Quchi (LI 11) and Hegu (LI 4) on the affected side or electroacupuncture at Quchi (LI 11) and Hegu (LI 4) on the affected side after raising handclasp of Bobath. The changes of SEP on the affected side were recorded and compared.
RESULTSSEP on the affected side significantly increased in the patients after treatment of simple electroacupuncture or exercise therapy (P < 0.01), with no significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05). There was a very significant difference in SEP on the affected side between the group of exercise treatment after electroacupuncture and the group of electroacupuncture after exercise therapy (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONBoth electroacupuncture and exercise therapy can immediately improve SEP of the patient in the recovery stage, and the groups of the different interference orders of electroacupuncture and exercise have different effects on SEP, and raising handclasp of Bobath after electroacupuncture is better for improvement in cerebral function of the patient.

4.Antiproliferative effects of LY294002 on MCL Jeko-1 cell line and its mechanism.

This study was aimed to investigate the effects of LY294002, a specific inhibitor of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase, on growth and apoptosis of MCL Jeko-1 cell line and its mechanism. The proliferation inhibitory rate of Jeko-1 cells treated by different doses of LY294002 was assayed by MTT method; the level of apoptosis of Jeko-1 cells was detected by flow cytometry; the expression level of apoptosis-related protein Cyclin D1, Bcl-2, procaspase-3 and PI3K/Akt signaling pathway protein phosphorylated-Akt (p-Akt), phosphorylated-TOR (p-mTOR), phosphorylated-P70S6K (p-P70S6K) phosphorylated-Akt (p-Akt) in Jeko-1 cells were determined by Western blot. The results showed that the growth of Jeko-1 cell line was inhibited by LY294002. The apoptosis rates of Jeko-1 cells treated with 0, 5, 10 and 20 µmol/L of LY294002 for 24 hours were (3.25 ± 1.27)%, (11.34 ± 2.35)%, (22.81 ± 2.74)%, (43.61 ± 3.48)% respectively, the difference between them was statistically significant (P < 0.01). Phosphorylation levels of PI3K/Akt signaling pathway protein p-Akt, p-mTOR, p-P70S6K decreased, the expression of apoptosis-related protein cyclin D1, Bcl-2, procaspase-3 was down-regulated.It is concluded that the LY294002 can inhibit Jeko-1 cell proliferation, which may be realized through down-regulating the phosphorylation level of p-Akt, p-mTOR, p-P70S6K, inhibiting the P13k/Akt signaling pathway, and promoting the cell apoptosis.

5.Supra-molecular assembly and magnetic targeted slow-release effect of "dextran-magnetic layered double hydroxide-fluorouracil" drug delivery system.

The drug-loading system of DMF (dextran - magnetic layered double hydroxide - fluorouracil) was synthesized by "co-precipitation intercalated assembly - dextran composite in situ - solvent conversion" technology. The crystal-phase characteristic and slow-release performance of DMF were investigated through X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectrum (IR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetry (TG) and in vitro release experiment. The targeted transshipment and slow-release effect of DMF system were evaluated by in vivo animal experiment. It was showed that the XRD of DMF matched with R-sixtetragonum type layered double hydroxide and Fd-3m cubic type ferrite. IR test demonstrated that the DMF system was a supra-molecular complex consisted of Dextran (DET), magnetic layered double hydroxide (MLDH) and fluorouracil (FU) components. The two-level supra-molecular MLDH-FU presented six-edge lozenge TEM morphology, with layered characteristics. DET on the surface of DMF was capable of protecting the layered structure of MLDH-FU, improving particle dispersion properties, and strengthening the slow-release performance of the drug delivery system. The drug release model of DMF at pH 7.35 of PBS in vitro fit to the zero-order kinetics equation C = 1.1716 x 10(-5) + 4.4626 x 10(-7) t. The drug delivery system DMF could transport drugs principally to in vivo target organs with a local effect, targeted specificity, and excellent circulation transshipment performance. The pharmacokinetic process of DMF presented multi-peak phenomenon with peak attenuation and cyclic growth. The peaks appeared at 0.25, 1, 3, 5 and 9 d separately after dosing intervention. The first peak process of DMF accorded with a pharmacokinetic equation of C(FU) = 14.34 e(-0.530t) + 36.04 e(-0.321t) + 24.18 e(-0.96t), and presented the characteristic of slow absorption and fast elimination. As for subsequent peak processes, half-life increased, bioavailability increased, and plasma clearance decreased. The highest peak value of DMF was 1/37 of original value of FU, and the relative bioavailability was 419% to original FU.

6.Survey of studies on time factor in acupoint sticking therapy for the bronchial asthma.

Based on the retrieval of literatures in recent fifteen years, the time factors in the acupoint sticking therapy for the bronchial asthma are analyzed and compared in terms of the stage classification of patients, timing selection of acupoint sticking therapy and medication application, and times of application. The acupoint sticking therapy is mostly practiced during remittent stage of bronchial asthma; the timing selection is mostly during the hottest period of summer, the timing selection in certain cases is the coldest period of winter or any day; the duration of medication application is not consistent; therefore, the effectiveness of these cases is different. It may be that the ef fectiveness is proportional to the times and courses of acupoint sticking therapy for the bronchial asthma. In the future, the scientific designs which involve time factor are needed to elucidate the importance of time factor in acupoint sticking therapy for the bronchial asthma.

8.Prognosis investigation in patients with chronic heart failure and pericardial effusion.

BACKGROUNDResearchers still do not reach the consensus on the incidence, characters and the prognostic value of pericardial effusion (PE) in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF). This study is to investigate the incidence, characters and the prognostic value of pericardial effusion (PE) in patients with CHF.
METHODSOne thousand one hundred and eighty-nine patients, with a diagnosis of CHF consecutively admitted to three centers, were enrolled. M-mode echocardiography was used to determine the presence or absence of PE and to semi-quantify it. The 118 patients with PE and 472 without PE were followed up. The relationship between the PE and other parameters and the prognostic value of PE for CHF were analyzed by univariate and multivariate analyses.
RESULTSAfter following up, 550 patients were analyzed, of which 226 were dead. The incidence of PE was 9.92%. Moderate PE was the most common which account 90.68% (107/118). The 6.78% of the patients (8/118) had small while only 2.54% (3/118) had large one. The systolic blood pressure (OR=1.04, 95%CI (1.01-1.07), P=0.08), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) (OR=1.09, 95%CI (1.02-1.15), P=0.06), and main pulmonary artery diameter (MPAD) (OR=1.51, 95%CI (1.24-1.85), P<0.001) were the independent predictors of PE. The glomerular filtration rate (GFR) (OR=1.013, 95%CI (1.005-1.026), P=0.02), systolic blood pressure (OR=1.02, 95%CI (1.00-1.03), P=0.015), LVEF (OR=1.08, 95%CI (1.04-1.12), P<0.001) and diabetes mellitus (OR=3.53, 95%CI (1.99-6.44), P<0.001) were determined as the independent predictors of CHF prognosis.
CONCLUSIONSThe PE is not uncommon in CHF patients and most PE are small to moderate. PE is not related to the etiology of CHF while is strongly connected with higher systolic blood pressure, low LVEF and large MPAD. PE dose not increase the risk of death in patients with CHF.

9.Effects of time factors on acupoint sticking therapy for preventing and treating bronchial asthma.

OBJECTIVETo observe the influence of time factors on acupoint sticking therapy for preventing and treating bronchial asthma.
METHODSSeventy-one cases were randomly divided into a dog days group (n= 30), a Sanjiu days group (n=21) and a daily days group (n=20). They were all treated with ginger moxibustion plus acupoint sticking of Chinese medicine at Dazhui (GV 14) and Feishu (BL 13) etc. This treatment was applied once at the beginning of the first dog days, the middle dog days and the last dog days respectively in the dog days group, and once at the beginning of the first nine days, the middle nine days and the last nine days in coldest days of winter respectively in the Sanjiu days group, and once every other 10 days during 30 days except the dog days or the Sanjiu days in the daily days group. Their therapeutic effects and quality of life and changes of serum level of interleukin 13 (IL-13) were observed.
RESULTSThe total effective rate of the dog days group was 83.3% (25/30), the Sanjiu days group and the daily days group were 61.9% (13/21) and 65.0% (15/20) respectively, with no significant differences among three groups (all P>0.05). After treatment, there were no significant differences in quality of life and changes of serum level of IL-13 among three groups, but there were significant differences between before and after treatment (P<0.01, P<0.001).
CONCLUSIONAcupoint sticking is an effective therapy for bronchial asthma. It can be practiced in the whole year for the result of this study that medicines and acupoints are the leading factors of this therapy and the time factors have no influence on therapeutic effect.

10.Effects of different interference orders of electroacupuncture and exercise therapy on the therapeutic effect of hemiplegia after stroke.

OBJECTIVETo observe effects of different interference orders of electroacupuncture and exercise therapy on the therapeutic effect of hemiplegia after stroke.
METHODSThe patients of hemiplegia due to stroke were randomly divided into a group A and a group B. The group A were treated by exercise therapy after electroacupuncture (EA) and the group B by EA after exercise therapy. Fugl-Meyer evaluation (FME), modified Barthel index (MBI) and amplitude of somatosensory evoked potential (SEP) on the affected side before treatment and after one therapeutic course (2 weeks) were recorded and compared in the two groups.
RESULTSBefore and after treatment, FME were 31.760 +/- 4.438 and 76.640 +/- 3.621, and MBI were 26.520 +/- 2.413 and 62.360 +/- 3.700 in the group A; and FME were 32.480 +/- 5.903 and 65.640 +/- 5.212, and the MBI were 28.000 +/- 3.383 and 54.480 +/- 5.205 in the group B, respectively, with very significant differences in FME and MBI in the two groups (all P < 0.01); and the different values before and after treatment in the two indexes in the group A were better than those in the group B (all P < 0.05). There was a very significant difference in the amplitude of SEP before and after treatment in the group A (P < 0.01) and no significant difference in the group B, and there was no significant difference between the two groups in the different value of the amplitude of SEP.
CONCLUSIONCombination of any orders of electroacupuncture and exercise therapy can improve limb function of the patient with hemiplegia after stroke, but the therapeutic effect of exercise therapy after EA is better.
