Adenoid cystic carcinoma is known to be a neoplasm of the major and minor salivary glands but it also occurs in the lacrimal gland, external auditory canal, easphagus, breast and skin. Adenoid cystic carcinoma of salivary gland is a slow-growin nalignant tumor. Although metastasis of this tumor clevelnps in about half the cases, its meta taes to the overlying skin is not common, moreover the skin metastasis to the remote site is raely found. Primary cutaneous adenoid cystic carcinoma is rare and histologically indistingisl able from skin metastasis of adenoid cystic carcinoma of the salivary gland. A 53 year-old man presented a solitary, well defined, erythen at us, 1.3 x 1.3cm sized nodule on the vertex of the scalp, which revealed the typical histopatholog ndings of adenoid cystic carcinoma. One and half years ago, a tumor of the parotid gland va removed and proved to be a cribriform pattern of adenoid cystic carcinoma. The skin lesion was diaghosed as a skin metastasis of the alenoid cystic carcinoma of parotid gland rather than a primary cutaneous adenoid cystic carcinona because a similar pattern of adenoid cystic carcinorom had been discovered on the parotidg an l although it developed on the scalp, the usual site of primary cutaneous adenoid cystic carcinama.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1995;33(2):322-326
Intravascular papillary endotholial hyperplasia is a relatively rare (istose which is characterized by the development of endothelialdined papillary projections in a vascula humen. It is commonly found to be associated with thromboticrraterial and is now considered a reative process of the endothelium rather than a neoplastic one. Although this disease usually presents petri dish or bluish nodule on the head, neck or upper extremiti it can develop anywhere on the bod, . There are many reports about lesions in unusal locations, but t.hey are almost always solitary. A 61-year-old woman complained of multiple, tender, 1 x 1 to 4 x 5 creasized nodules on both hands, antecubital fossa, chest, abdomen, left shoulder and right calf. These the nodules showed reddish to bluish colors and had long hisbiries from 1 year to 7 years. Four our 13 lesions were excised for histopathologic diagnosis intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplaian 3 lesions and cavernous hemangioma in 1 lesion.(

Journal of Asthma, Allergy and Clinical Immunology 1998;18(3):441-450
BACKGROUND: Toluene diisocyanate (TDI) is the most prevalent agent to cause occupational asthma (OA) in Korea. The pathogenic mechanism of TDI-induced OA is still unclear. Involvement of both immunological and non-immunologicaI mechanisms have been suggested. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate a possible role of neutrophil in the development of TDI-asthma. OBJECT AND METHOD: Myeloperoxidase (MPO) as a neutrophil activation marker in both serum and induced sputum, and IL-8 in induced sputum were measured. Induced sputa and sera were collected from 15 TDI-induced OA patients (classified to group I) during TDI- bronchoprovocation test and were compared with those from 11 asthmatic subjects with negative TDI-bronchoprovocation test (group II). MPO levels were measured by radioimmunoassay, IL-8 levels, by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay and albumin levels, by nephelometry. Sputum MPO and IL-8 levels were presented as a ratio to albumin. RESULT: Serum MPO level tended to decrease during the TDI-bronchoprovocation test in two groups, but no statistical significance was reached (p>0.05). However, the ratios of MPO (the ratio of MPO level measured at 30 min to MPO level at baseline, and the ratio MPO level measured at 360 min to MPO baseline) in group I were significantly lower than group II (p=0.004, p=0.03 respectively). The IL-8/albumin and MPO/albumin levels in induced sputum from group I were significantly increased after the TDI-bronchprovocation test in comparison to the baseline value which was obtained before the bronchoprovocation test (p=0.0l, p=0.02 respectively). There was a significant correlation between the percent increase of IL-8/albumin and the MPO/albumin in induced sputum (r=0.89, p<0.05). CONCLUSION: These findings suggest a possible involvement of neutrophil in the development of bronchoconstiction after the TDI exposure, and IL-8 might contribute to neutrophil recruitment to airway mucosa. Further investigation will be needed to investigate mechanism of neutrophil activation in the pathogenesis af TDI-induced OA.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1987;22(4):983-992
Giant cell tumor is an uncommon primary bone tumor of young adults with the highest incidence in patients 20 to 40 years of age. These tumors are most frequently found in the metaphyseal-epiphyseal region of the long bones, especially around the knee joint and the distal end of the radius. So the normal life expectancy and an active life style of the patient necessitate a reliable and durable surgical remedy for eradicating the tumor and preserving joint function. Furthermore, these have an unpredictable clinical behavior. Although almost always benign, these tumors are locally agressive and tend to have a high rate of rerurrence, and malignant transfomation is well known to be 6 15%. Thus the lesions produce a practically difficult therapeutic problem for the orthopaedic surgeon, and a satisfactory method of treatment has not yet been found. Clinical observations were carried out on 33 cases of giant cell tumor of bone in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Yonsei University College of Medicine from May 1975 through May 1985, and the following results were obtained. 1. The highest incidence, 23 cases (70%), accurred in the 21 40 year old age group, and the sex distribution was 18 males and 15 females. 2. The most frequent locations were the distal feuiur, proximal tibia and distal radius. Twenty four cases(73%) occurred around the knee joint. 3. The pathologic grading according to Jaffes criteria showed 10 cases(30.3%) in grade I, 20 cases (60.6%) in grade II and 3 cases(9.1%) in grade III. 4. As the primary treatment modality, currettage and bone graft were performed in 9 cases, currettage and bone cementing in 9 cases, amputation or disarticulation in 7 cases, enbloc excision with or without other procedures in 6 cases and currettage and radiotherpy in 2 cases. 5. Eight cases(24.2%) recurred after primary treatment and 6 cases of the 8 recurrences appeared within 2 years after primary treatment. 6. Four of the 9 tumors treated by currettage and bone graft recurred, as did two of the 9 tumors treated by currettage and bone cementing. No recurrence occurred in the 7 tumors treated by amputation or disarticulation. 7. As the secondary treatment modality for 8 recurrences, amputation or disarticulation was performed in 5 cases.

Journal of Asthma, Allergy and Clinical Immunology 1998;18(1):52-60
BACKGROUND: Hop Japanese (Hop J) pollens are abundant in the air of Korea during the autumn season. Their significances as a source of allergenic sensitization have been underestimated in this country. MATERIAL AND METHOD: In other to observe clinical features of Hop J-sensitive asthmatic patients in this country, skin prick test with Hop J pollen was performed. The serum specific IgE antibodies to Hop J pollen antigen were detected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in positive responders (>2+ of A/H ratio) on skin prick test. To confirm the respiratory sensitization, bronchoprovocation test was performed in 17 asthmatic patients sensitive to this pollen. RESULT: Ten asthmatic subjects showed a significant bronchoconstriction following the inhalation of Hop J pollen extract (6 early and 4 dual astmatic responses) and all of them had high serum specific IgE bindings, with minimal bindings in negative responders. They have suffered from seasonal aggravation of asthmatic symptoms with or without rhinitis, and/or conjunctivitis symptoms. The skin reactivity to Hop J had more than 5+ of A/H ratio on skin prick test in nine positive responders, whlie negative responders showed from 1+ to 3+ response. Moreover, four (40%) asthmatic subjects showed a positive response to only the Hop J pollen on skin prick test and an isolated positive asthmatic response to the Hop J bronchoprovocation test. CONCLUSION: We believe that the Hop J pollen should be considered as an allergen during the Autumn season, and thus included in skin test batteries in this area. Some labelled having intrinsic asthma or rhinitis might be sensitized to this pollen or other unknown allergens.

Korean Journal of Health Promotion 2021;21(4):175-183
Background:
Although there are various interventions for eating disorders in type 1 diabetes patients, it is difficult to interpret them comprehensively. The purpose of this study is to analyze eating disorder intervention studies in type 1 diabetes patients and to compare the characteristics of each study.
Methods:
For this study, PICOTS-SD was established. We searched studies published in Korean and English from 2000 to 2020 in KCI, RISS, NDSL, KISS, MEDLINE, CINAHL, Pubmed, and Embase.
Results:
For the intervention of eating disorders in patients with type 1 diabetes, psycho-education and self-compassion programs were implemented. The intervention period varied from 4 to 6 weeks, and physiological variables, eating disorder variables, and emotional variables were used interventions. But the number of participants was small and the results of the study were inconsistent.
Conclusions
Through this study, the possibility of resolving the difficulties of eating disorder intervention in type 1 diabetes patients was confirmed. In the future, more randomized controlled trials with larger samples are needed to extend the evidence base.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1986;22(1):124-130
Congenital anomaly of IVC is rare, but understanding of this anomaly is important in radiological diagnosis, angiographic procedures and major retroperitoneal and thoracic surgery. We analysed 23 cases of IVC interruptiondiagnosed by cardiac angiography at Seoul National University Hospital. The results were as follows: 1. Theincidence of infrahepatic interruption of IVC was 0.45% of the patients having cardiac angiography and mostpatients showed cyanosis(91%). 2. The most common associated cardiac anomaly was right ventricular outflow tractobstruction (60%). Other associated cardiac defects were VSD, ASD, valvular anomaliesin 9 cases(39%) respectively;double outlet right bentricle, bilateral superior vena cava, single ventricle in 6 cases(26%) respectively; singleatrim, PDA in 5 cases(22%) respectively. 6 cases of situs inversus, 3 cases of situs ambiguus,2 cases of visceralheterotaxia and one case of asplenia were observed also. 7 cases of left-sided IVC were associated with IVCinterruption in normal situs.

Journal of the Korean Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine 2007;31(6):636-641
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) therapy on swallowing dysfunction in patients with chronic (more than 6 months) dysphagia caused by stroke. METHOD: A total of 16 patients with stroke-caused swallowing disorders based on a videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) were treated with NMES for two weeks. NMES was applied to the skin over the anterior neck muscles for one hour a day. Swallowing function was evaluated by the functional dysphagia scale using the VFSS, clinical dysphagia scale and the American Speech-Language Hearing Association National Outcomes Measurements System Swallowing Scale (ASHA NOMS scale) before and after electrical stimulation. Follow up VFSS was performed one month after intervention. RESULTS: After completing ten treatment sessions, aspiration, reflex coughing and the total score in the clinical dysphagia scale were significantly decreased (p<0.05). There was also a significant improvement in the ASHA NOMS scale (p<0.05). Regarding the functional dysphagia scale, the residue in the valleculae and piriformis sinus, and total scores were significantly decreased (p<0.05). Specifically, the scores of the pharyngeal phase were mainly decreased as compared to that of the oral phase. In addition, these effects were maintained one month after the intervention as measured with functional dysphagia scale. CONCLUSION: After ten sessions of NMES, we found improvement in dysphagia parameters in chronic dysphagia patients. Specifically, residue in the valleculae and piriformis sinus, and a parameter of the pharyngeal phase were significantly improved.
