We report a case of fibrous hamartoma of infancy in a 7-month-old male infant, in which a solitary, asymptomatic, walnut-sized, nomal skin-colored plaque occurred on the left middle back for about one month. Histopathologic findings showed the distinctive features of fibrous hamartoma of infancy, ie, trabeculae of dense collagenous tissue, whorls of immature spindle cells within a mucoid matrix, and interspersed mature adipose tissue, in the lower dermis. The lesion was excised without recurrence.

We herein report a case of keratoderma showing the combined clinical manifestations of striate and marginal keratoderma. The patient was a 18-year-old giri who about a year ago noticed slightly yellowish, well-circurnscribed, hyperkeratotic plaques on the volar aspect of the fingers and palms of both hands in a linear pattern with bands of hyperkeratotic plaques at the edeges of the 2nd fingers. We also found hyperkeratotic plaques on the both soles which were confined to sites of pressure. She denied a history of any chronic pressure or trauma. There was no family member showing the same clinical features. The histopathological findings from the palm, volsr aspect of finger and a sole revealed marked hyperkeratosis, hypergranulosis, and acanthosis.

We describe a case of cutaneous chylous reflux, which is thought to be a kind of primary lymphedema, in a 19-year-old male who had suffered from multiple vesiculobullae and intermittent swelling on scrotum for about 6 years. Histopathologic findings showed multiple dilated lymphatic vascular channels in papillary dermis.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Glass fiber post is one of recent developments to accommodate esthetic restoration for endodontically treated teeth. This has many advantages over conventional post system in physical properties, esthetic factor, risk of root and restoration fracture, adhesion to core, radiopacity, removal and retrievabilty, biocompatibility and chemical stability. PURPOSE: This in vitro study was to evaluate the most suitable type of resin core for the glass fiber post through surveying the fracture modes and the maximum load that fractures the tooth. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 50 sound maxillary premolars restored with glass fiber posts(ParaPost(R) Fiber White) and different types of resin cores(ParaCore, Z100(TM), Rebilda(R) and Admira(R)) were prepared and loaded to faiure in a universal test machine. The maximum fracture load and fracture mode were investigated in the specimens that were restored with resin and those of metal cast and core. With the data, Wilcoxon rank sum test was used to validate the significance between the test groups, and Tukey's studentized range test was used to check if there is any significant statistical difference between each test group. Every analysis was approved with 95% reliance. RESULTS: On measuring the maximum fracture load of teeth specimens, there was a significant difference between the maximum fracture loads of the tooth specimens. ParaCore showed the highest mean maximum fracture load followed by Z100(TM). And, the distribution of fracture mode of tooth specimens showed generally Type D, the three parted fracture of the core around the post was mostly seen(62.5%), and specifically, ParaCore showed 90% and Z100(TM) showed 100% Type D fracture. CONCLUSION. Referring to the values of maximum fracture load and mean compressive fracture load, ParaCore and Z100(TM) had high values and are recommended as tooth colored resin core material for glass fiber post. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: This study was carried out intending to be of aid in selecting the appropriate resin core for the glass fiber post. The dual cure type composite resin ParaCore and light cure type composite resin Z100(TM) have good properties and are recommended as tooth colored resin core material for glass fiber post.

Chronic osteomyelitis continue to be a therapeutic challenge. The osteomyelitis also implies chronic ischemia of the diseased bone ; thus systemic antibiotic treatment may not be as effective as we want. In 1972, Klemm developed a new procedure to supplement saucerization in the treatment of chronic osteomyelitis, alternative to irrigation and suction-drainage, i.e., Gentamicin-PMMA Beads. The authors analysed 35cases of the chronic osteomyelitis which were admitted and treated by sauceriztion and Gentamicin-PMMA Beads in Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Korea Veterans Hospital from Aug. 1984 to Jan. 1988.

We performed the same day dipyridamole stress/rest myocardial SPECT in 14 healthy young men, reconstructed the polar maps according to Cedars-Sinal method and quantitated the radioactivity of myocardial wall. We divided the whole myocardium to 9 sectors. The latero-anterior wall contains the highest count. The infero-septal wall contains the lowest count. There isn't any significant differences of radioactivity in each segment between stress and rest polar map. The hemodynamic parameters after dipyridamole injection in the subjects were significantly changed except systolic blood pressure : the heart rate was increased and diastolic blood pressure was decreased. Adverse effects were reported in 85.7%. We suggest that these data can be used to dectect perfusion defect in the coromary artery disease.

We studied the incidence and results of treatment of secondary hypertension in Yeungnam University Hospital. Nineteen hundred fifty patients with hypertension were included from march 1990 to march 1994. We analysed the prevalence of secondary hypertension and results of treatment. The incidence of secondary hypertension in Yeungnam University Hospital was six percent. The most common underlying causes of secondary hypertension was renal parenchymal disease. Patients with three forms of potentially reversible secondary hypertension, namely, renovascular hypertension, endocrine disease, exogenous hormone, were assed to determine whether surgery or withdrawal of the exogenous hormane had led to an improvement in blood pressure control. The incidence of secondary hypertension in Yeungnam University Hospital was low(6%), but some of these are curable. Thus it is very inportant that evaluate the secondary hypertension.

PURPOSE: Many techniques have evolved to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). These techniques attempt to achieve the clinical benefits of transurethral resection of the prostate, while trying to decrease the morbidity associated with this procedure. Visual laser ablation of the prostate (VLAP) has also been used as an effective treatment modality of BPH. The objective of this paper was to evaluate the long term effect of VLAP for patients with symptomatic BPH. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 85 patients with BPH underwent an initial operation, where a VLAP was performed with a neodymium:YAG laser. 65 patients, 6 months after the operation, and 25, 6 years after the operation, were available for follow-up studies. Voiding outcomes, including peak urinary flow rates, residual urine volumes and American Urological Association (AUA) symptom scores, were measured over time. RESULTS: 6 months after the operation significant improvement was seen in the prostatic size, maximal flow rate and post-void residual volume. However, no significant statistical improvement in these parameters was noticed in the subsequent 6 year follow-up (p>0.05). Comparisons of the mean AUA scores, before the operation, and 6 months (p<0.05) and 6 years (p>0.05) after, showed significant differences for the different times. With regard to the quality of life due to the urinary symptoms, 87.7% of patients 6 months, and 72.7% 6 years after the operation felt more than mildly satisfied. CONCLUSIONS: There have been numerous reports on the efficacy of VLAP, which show its many advantages, such as low morbidity, high simplicity and good short-term effect. However, according to this study, the long-term therapeutic effect of VLAP was poor, but its exact role for the treatment of BPH remains to be determined.
