1.A Case of Electric Catarct.
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1971;12(3):131-133
A case of the electric cataract is presented in a 27-year-old Korean man, who after having received the lighthning stroke on the right half of his head, had developed gradually decrease of the visual acuity. Ocular findings on 13 month after the accident disclosed dust-like opacity in the posterior capaular and subcapsular region of the both lenses, and slight punctate opacity in the anterior subcapsular area. These findings were more pronounced in the right. The visual acuity and tonometric examination revealed 0.06 (OD), 0.5 (OS) and 17.3mmHg(OB). The extracapsular lens extraction was done for the right eye and three weeks later the correction of the vision obtained was 20/25 (Sph. + 10.0 D).

We report a case of 50-year-old man with hyalinized hemangioma of the liver. This tumor was detected incidentally during surgical operation for gall stone and was preoperatively diagnosed as intrahepatic stone. A 2.5 2 cm sized gray to white hard mass was found in the left lobe of the liver. Histologically, the tumor was composed of dense collagenous tissue with marked hyalinization, calcification, and ossification admixed with scattered sclerotic vessels. Abundunt elastic fibers were noted in the hyalinized tissue. Totally hyalinized hemangioma is very uncommon and could be erroneously diagnosed as a malignant tumor by preoperative radiologic examination.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1971;12(4):207-213
Five cases of Marfan's Syndrome were presented. The syndrome first described by Marfan (1896) is not a common condition. We experienced recently 5 cases of it. 3 cases of these occured in a family, and the others were different. The youngest in this series was 11 year-old and oldest 56 years. Four were male and one was female. In all cases, the characteristics are the lens dislocation, visual disturbances and an elongation of the long bones. The cases developed in a family, rarely reported in the literature, so we reported it.

3 cases of mucocele are reported. 2 cases were revealed the ethmoidal mucocele on the physical examinations and the other one was the frontoethmoidal mucocele. All cases were fyoung (23 yrs, 27 yrs and 35 yrs) and male. The symptoms in these cases were caracterized by the proptosis, the orbital tumor and eyeball devation toward the lateral side. In a case, the optic neuritis was examined. All cases were treated by means of orbitotomy and sinusotomy through the supranasal approach, and results were good.

Hepatoblastoma is a primary embryonic liver tumor usually found in children. It extremely rarely occurs in adults. We report a case of hepatoblastoma in a 56 year old man with chronic hepatitis B of 10years duration. Laboratory investigation of the patient on admission showed a marked elevation of alpha-fetoprotein in serum. Ultrasonography and Computerized tomography scan revealed a primary tumor, 6x7cm in size, in the right lobe. The tumor removed by a right lobectomy. Complete removal of the tumor is the treatment which is potentially curative provided that lesion is confined within the liver capsule. The literature revealed and a case of this tumor reviewed.

BACKGROUND: The morphological characteristics of hepatocytes transplanted into the spleen have been studied. However few attempts has been made to determine the expression of genes in intrasplenically transplanted hepatocytes. The aim of this study was to explore whether the pattern of expression of albumin gene in intrasplenically transplanted hepatocytes is similar to that in adult liver, resulting in the long-term expression of this hepatocyte-specific gene. METHODS: Hepatocytes isolated from liver of syngeneic Fischer 344 rats and transplanted into the spleen of rats from the same strain survived for 12 months in the absence of immunosuppressive drugs. Microscopic examination of intrasplenic hepatocytes and Northern blotting for albumin gene expression of RNA extracted from liver and spleen was performed. RESULTS: Microscopy demonstrated that hepatocytes attached themselves only in the red pulp of the spleen and isolated hepatocytes preserved the fine structures characteristic of normal hepatic parenchymal cells. Throughout the 12 months period, intrasplenically transplanted hepatocytes expressed albumin mRNA. CONCLUSIONS: Intrasplenically transplanted hepatocytes represent a unique in vivo system of extrahepatic maintenance of hepatocytes. This novel transplantation system could be used to investigate hepatocyte engraft, proliferation and gene expression.

Mycobiology 2018;46(3):185-191
The genus Chrysothrix is very common around the world and easy to be recognized by its bright yellowish granular thallus. In this study, investigations of lichen mycota in South Korea and Chile from 2010 to 2017 have been done, and some Chrysothrix specimens were collected, based on the morphological and chemical study on these specimens, five species were confirmed in this study, including one new species from Chile, Chrysothrix chilensis D. Liu & J.-S Hur, and one new record from South Korea, C. xanthina (Vain.) Kalb. Meanwhile, detail description and illustration for each species were present in this study.

A new species and 2 new records of lichen genus Buellia were discovered from Chuja-do Island in Jeju Province during a recent floristic survey: B. chujana X. Y. Wang, S. Y. Kondr., L. Lőkös & J.-S. Hur sp. nov., B. halonia (Ach.) Tuck., and B. mamillana (Tuck.) W. A. Weber. The new species is characterized by a brown, areolate thallus, the presence of perlatolic acid, and a saxicolous habitat. Together with previously recorded species, 10 Buellia species were confirmed from Jeju-do Island. Among these species, 3 growing in the exposed rocky area contained xanthone (yellowish lichen thallus, UV + orange), indicating that production of xanthone in this genus might be a defense strategy against the harm of UV light. Although the genus Buellia has been thoroughly studied in Korea before, novel species have been discovered continuously, and large species diversity has been found in this crustose genus, even from a small rocky island. This study indicates that the coastal area harbors a vast number of crustose lichen species, and there is great potential to discover unknown lichens in the coastal rocky area in Korea.

The new genus and species, Jejulea byssolomoides, is described from Jeju Island, Korea. This lichen is characterized by saxicolous, crustose, pale greenish-gray, partly finely filamentous, matt, smooth thallus, prominent convex brown to dark brown ascomata with a concolorous margin constricted at the dark brown base, 300–800 lm diameter, 200–250 lm high, without a distinct proper margin, adhering to the substratum ending in a minute byssoid white external part of cylindrical cells, fusiform 3–5 septate ascospores (17–23 × 4–5 μm). Phylogenetic analyses using ITS and mtSSU sequences place Jejulea in the Pilocarpaceae (Lecanorales). The new taxon is closely related to Byssoloma, a cosmopolitan group of foliicolous lichens, which is most diverse in the tropics. Like Byssoloma, Jejulea also forms a byssoid apothecial margin.
